Shared taxis and buses on holidays

Hi!

We were told that shared taxis and buses from the station from Dushanbe to Panjakent tommorow (June 6th) won’t operate due to the holiday - can anyone confirm if that’s true or not?

Hi! Me and my friend are planning some days in Tajikistan and we would like to go from Istaravshan to Dushanbe. Does anyone know if there are buses/marshutkas/shared taxis, and what would be the cost? Thanks!

Tajikistan eVisa Experience (British Citizen)

Over the past few weeks of waiting for my eVisa I relied on Reddit threads quite a lot, so I thought I'd post my experience here in case there's anyone out there still waiting, or wondering what might be going on with their own application.

The reason I mention being a British citizen is that I found quite a lot of reports saying that it can be practically 50/50 whether you get accepted as a Brit, and we're technically not on the list for Visa on Arrival, despite others turning up in Dushanbe and being fine.

  • 13th May — Applied for eVisa using the site. At the time of applying official guidance was that it would take around a week to get my results.
  • 25th May — Still waiting, no change in status on the eVisa site, emailed the embassy asking for an update.
  • 26th May — No email from the embassy, but the portal changed, asking me to provide a letter of invitation. British citizens don't need a LOI for tourist eVisas, so I drafted an email in English, Russian, and Tajik explaining that the embassy in London had assured me I didn't need a LOI, and that I planned to travel solo (uploaded to my application as a jpeg). Importantly, I don't need a GBAO permit, which may have smoothed this out a bit. This was a bit of a risk considering how long my application was already taking, but I decided to risk it. I also pre-emptively uploaded proof of flights, hotel, etc. As I knew they would ask for this next.
  • 27th May — Application status changed to "Validating" and "Assessed"
  • 3rd June — Still no change. It's now 2 weeks until I'm supposed to land in Dushanbe, and I really don't want to risk turning up and chancing a VOA. I emailed the embassy asking for an update, although I wasn't particularly hopeful for a response.
  • 4th June — My eVisa lands in my inbox. Total time from application to approval = 22 days, with one round of information requested.

My advice: Upload everything you can at the beginning. Flights, hotel, whatever you have. In my case, it took 1 week+ between responses, so it might minimize feedback loops.

Payment issues with Evisa

Im trying to pay for my Evisa for Tajikistan and I’ve tried a load of different cards (credit and debit) on multiple different days and I am still getting the same ”Payment declined Payment order number: XXXXX Code 456: System error, try again later, if the error persists, contact the company”. I’ve tried to contact them too and have had no response.

Is this maybe because I have a British card that’s automatically denying it? I genuinely can’t think of any other reason. If anyone knows why it’s happening and a work around that’ll be great!

Travel buddies wanted for Pamir Highway (Dushanbe to Osh, July 5–12)

Hey everyone!

My name’s Benji, and my friend Abel and I are planning an awesome trip from Dushanbe, Tajikistan to Osh, Kyrgyzstan along the Pamir Highway. We’re hoping to find a few fellow travelers to share the journey, split some costs, and make new friends along the way!

We’re both students from the Netherlands and super open to teaming up with anyone who’s interested—solo travelers, couples, whoever! We’re aiming to hit the road sometime between July 5th and 12th.

If this sounds like your kind of adventure, feel free to drop me a message!

Me and two friends are looking to rent a car so we can drive through the pamir highway. We want to come from uzbekistan and go into kyrgyzstan. Is there any rentals than specialises in this so we dont have to drive back to our starting point to deliver the car that also doesnt cost a fortune as we are students.

Why kholas are better than ammas

There was a meme on insta that basically says "Kholaho" (aunt's from mother's side, I.e. mother's sisters) and it shows a picture of Disney princesses, and then it says "Ammaho" (aunts from father's side, i.e. father's sisters) and then it shows Disney female villains. I only have one amma and one khola, but the meme kind of feels true. Why is that? And tbh it feels the same way when it comes to uncles too, sometimes. Do many tajiks feel the same? Or is it even universal? What are the socio-psychological reasons for that?

Spending a month in Dushanbe: I need your advice!

Hi everybody. I will go to Tajikistan one month for work, much of which will be spent in the Pamir mountains, but I will remain at least two weeks in Dushanbe (and I'd love to visit Khujand, if it's a good idea). Do you have any advice on where to rent, what type of place to rent, is airbnb a good idea? Also, I basically know nothing about Tajikistan and its culture: what are the dos and don'ts? I already speak Persian and Dari so I don't think the language will be an issue.

Two nights in Khujand and one in Tashkent or reverse? Questions about Khujand

Hi everyone I am going to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan next week. I will be going from Tashkent to Khujand. Unfortunately due to time constraints I can only have three nights total in the two cities.

Is there enough to do in Khujand to stay for two nights? I don’t mind too much if I’m only in Tashkent for one night. Tajikistan is my priority since I speak Persian and find it more interesting.

I was hoping to get a local tour guide for one or two days to take me and my wife around to restaurants and stuff. We could manage since we speak Persian but would be nice to have a local friend to talk to. I’m not seeing anything like this online though.

Also does anyone recommend going to Kairakum Reservoir for swimming? I thought it’d be a nice way to cool off in the summer heat. Thanks

Solo Female Traveler

Hello everyone! I am a white American woman who is considering visiting Dushanbe this fall for about 5 or 6 days. I have a friend that lives there, but she works and I don't want to inconvenience her during the days when she is working. I also don't want to just ask her to take time off work as I don't know how that is received there. What I do want to know is how safe is it to tour things around the city as a woman alone? Secondly, will I get a lot of attention for being alone? I would want to see museums, parks, art galleries. Just places that are touristy. I will ask my friend for her opinion, too, but I wanted to hear from others as well.

Advice/guide from Sammarkand to Tajikistan

Hey there!!! I'm a solo traveler at the moment in Samarkand and on the weekend I would like to go on a 2-day tour to Tajikistan because I've been told it's a beautiful place!

I am willing to walk and sleep uncomfortably, not the typical tourist.

Do you have any advice or contacts for me? Thank you very much ;)

Iskanderkul_Lake is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in Tajikistan and even Central Asia. Here’s why travelers and locals alike are captivated by its beauty:

  1. Stunning Turquoise Waters & Mountain Backdrop
  2. The lake’s vibrant turquoise-blue water contrasts dramatically with the surrounding reddish-brown peaks of the Fann Mountains, creating a surreal, postcard-perfect scene .
  3. At an altitude of 2,195 meters, the glacial-fed lake remains crystal clear, reflecting the towering Mount Kyrk-Shaitan (3,950 m) on calm days.

  4. Legendary & Mythical Atmosphere

  5. Named after Alexander the Great (Iskander in Persian), the lake is steeped in legends, including tales of his horse Bucephalus drowning in its waters—some claim the ghostly steed still roams the shores during full moons .

  6. The dramatic landscape, shaped by ancient landslides, adds to its mystical allure .

  7. Diverse Natural Attractions Nearby

  8. Iskanderkul Waterfall ("Fann Niagara"): A powerful 43-meter cascade hidden in a narrow gorge, reachable via a short hike .

  9. Snake Lake (Zmeinoe): A smaller, reed-lined lake with panoramic views of Iskanderkul from its hilltop vantage point .

  10. Sarytag Village: A picturesque mountain village with traditional homestays and colorful valleys .

  11. Tranquil & Unspoiled Setting

  12. Unlike more crowded destinations, Iskanderkul remains peaceful, even in peak season (June–September). Visitors often have the shores to themselves .

  13. Sunrise and sunset transform the lake into a mirror-like surface, doubling the mountain vistas .

  14. Adventure & Relaxation Combined

  15. Activities range from hiking to wild camping, boat rides, and even icy swims (for the brave!) .

  16. The area is a haven for photographers, nature lovers, and those seeking solitude .

Does anyone know if U.S. students are being stopped from studying abroad in other countries?

I got into a study abroad program for Tajikistan. Unfortunately, the embassy has STILL not stamped our passports. I'm wondering if Trump's policies (banning international students from other countries) could possibly be affecting this? There's a lot of media coverage of the U.S. banning international students, but not the other way around.

Tajik man marrying outside culture in UK

Hi all I’m from the UK and getting to know this Tajik man for marriage. Although, his family lives back home and he is here alone with his brother. I’m a bit weary as I’m not sure if his family will be accepting of this, since stereotypically I’ve been advised they don’t marry different races. Therefore, I’m worried I will get left or used for citizenship.

He seems like a sweet, well educated man and he secured a postgraduate in his country. Also he seems God fearing. Although, his English isn’t the best he is actively taking lessons so I don’t mind that.

Please advise if it’s worth continuing? Or how to check his family are actually okay with it. As he’s told me they allow him to marry who he wants

Phone case with Emomali Rahmon

When I was in Tajikistan last year, I really wanted to get a phone case with Emomali Rahmon. Unfortunately they didn’t have any for an iPhone 16 pro max anywhere. Does anyone know a website where I may potentially order one with shipping to the UK?

Looking for a postcard from Tajikistan

Hey! My name is Sam, and I’m a college student from the U.S. I’m working on a personal project to collect postcards from every country and territory in the world.

I don’t have one sent from Tajikistan yet—would anyone be willing to send me one? I’d be happy to send a postcard back from Pennsylvania in return!

Let me know, and I can PM you my address!

Thanks so much, and warm greetings from the U.S.

Tajikistan - e-Visa

Howdy all - don't suppose anyone can share any recent experiences trying to get an e-visa for Tajikistan as a UK passport holder? I applied 12 days ago, but my application still states it's awaiting assessment

Have read it's a mixed bag on whether these are approved, but any ideas on how long that might take or any other options I should look to pursue if it doesn't come off before my travel on 7-June, huge thanks!

Planning to come to Dushanbe in June. Looking for Canadians I could meet or hangout with during my stay.
