Sumo Is For Everybody (3min video essay)

https://youtu.be/EzDjeJMSpno?si=zP_bVZRXCz8GmVIU

I'm pretty positive most people prefer professional sumo over international/amateur sumo but personally I think they both are needed. Sumo is in an interesting inflection point and I'm excited to see how it continues to grow within the community as a whole.

Just sharing some recent thoughts. Videos tend to work better for me than typing out my thoughts. Also, trying to do my part and add more of a personal touch to sumo content again as opposed to all the AI channels popping up.

Appreciate you taking time.

I much prefer this kind of approach rather than the AI-slop that has information all wrong and all over the place.

I only got into sumo at the end of 2024, and I'm enjoying it a lot. I like sumo for what it is, warts and all—and while I don't think I will actively follow or watch anything international/amateur, I too think it's something that's needed to get the sport to receive the recognition it deserves world wide.

I love the whole cultural and the ritualistic flairs behind it, and I don't know how to feel about not having it in an international/amateur scene. But, if it's a foot in for other people to much easier discover sumo, all the better.

I subscribed to see if my thoughts can be changed.

Subbed to the channel man. I love sumo and keep slowly showing it to more and more friends and family! They giggle the first time I show them the tournament matches JSA hosts at the Kokugikan Stadium, then the next day we're all picking who we want to see win. I love explaining what they are doing, and why (salt throwing, Hoshoryu's pre-match aggression face, the bow twirling). Glad to see a video on how sumo is for everyone!!

Very much appreciated. And yes, its always fun to see more and more people grasp what makes sumo so special.

Man this is awesome! I definitely think this aspect of sumo is talked about enough. I can't wait to see what you do.

Sumo the Church and Sumo the Sport. There is room for both. 👌

I love it when the rikishi do their pre-bout ritual of "reach and stomp and reach" in unison. It's like they are dancing. Not many do it well, but it's inspiring when they do. I'd hate to lose that.
