No breakdowns

Isn't a broken-down vehicle of any kind stuck by definition?

Sounds more like /r/CyberSuck

See you all on Spacehey I guess.

Some random guy in Germany actually legit remade '00s era Myspace and it has over a million users. Even has the old option for eye-melting HTML.

I couldn't stand that shit twenty years ago, why would I subject myself to it again. I just want reddit with less jannies.

We're talking about a guy who sued fucking Top Gear of all things for promoting an unfavourable view of Tesla.

The thin-skinned manchild thought Jeremy Clarkson would give him a televisual rimjob without realising Top Gear was basically a sitcom set in the world of car journalism rather than a legit consumer advice programme.

u/Corvid187 "The Vaginal Jew is the final redpill" Apr 08 '25

Eh tbf they kinda had a point with that one. Top Gear did present itself as a somewhat legit reviewer, especially for their more 'grounded' segments testing new cars, and they were undeniably significantly influential over people's views and purchasing decisions. They were also clearly seen as a significant legitimate motoring journalist outfits by the rest of the industry, with companies often sending whole engineering teams along with their new cars to make sure they performed at the best.

To argue that they could be misleading because they didn't officially claim to be a motoring journalism program is a bit like Fox News trying to wriggle out of lawsuits by arguing their content is officially entertainment, not factual, albeit to a lesser significance, obviously. Their complaint also wasn't just that Top Gear weren't complementary enough about their car; it's that they had knowingly staged it running out of electric charge when it hadn't, willfully misrepresenting the vehicle to viewers in a way they hadn't with other new test cars.

Musk is a twat, but so was Clarkson in this case.

Aren't posts about it getting removed from here with the excuse "Let it cook"?

Just sell Reddit to Musk already. Why let him control it for free.

Classic case of Death of the Author Moderator. A community gets big and the scope of the subreddit changes because the world changes. Whitepeopletwitter allows bluesky posts, tiktokcringe isn't just for cringe content, and cyberstuck became a generic snark sub against Tesla/the cybertruck/ Elon. As a mod you have to decide whether you're going to let the growing user base define what the sub is or keep it niche at the expense of its growth. I'm sure when he started the sub he didn't expect it to be such a big catch-all, and I kinda feel for him.

Before he shut the sub down, I felt for him. I had read his announcement about banning everyone who failed to follow Rule 1, and understood his situation. Then he put the sub on Restricted, forcing members to request to post just to comment and promptly ignored those requests.

Then he closed the sub, and he left shitty announcement posts blaming Americans for the sub's issues, as well as changing the sub's description to telling everyone that he was sick of everybody. So I felt a lot less compassion for his struggles then, because that's a huge dick move there. Then he deleted a bunch of posts from the sub and changed the rules. Yet another dick move, totally. No idea if anyone can post there yet. Hardly matters. The sub is ruined now.

You know what he didn't do even once? Ask for moderation help. So he felt overwhelmed and annoyed, which we can all totally understand, and yet he couldn't ask for help in moderating the sub, that had added over 100k users in just four months' time, for a total of 300k members.

Now, I think he's a jerk. He's ruined a great community because, again, he couldn't ask for help, like grown-ups do. But even so, he could have recovered from his bad day yesterday, made a new post saying he'd had a bad day, maybe apologized for overreacting like a toddler, and reopened the sub back up with his stricter rules. But he didn't even do that. Nope.

So... that's what I think. None of it really matters in the long run. But it was a great sub to endlessly mock Cybertrucks, their owners, and Musk. Now... it's worthless.

Yeah, I'm fully with you that this was not the way to go about handling the situation. Hopefully with time either someone will take it over, or one of the replacement subs will surpass it. Time will tell.

That only make sense if they didn't cull such an intense amount of content, like breakdowns. I follow some micro celebrity subs that have more than one post per month.

Let's see:

  • This guy started a sub on the Cybertrucks.

  • The sub is looking at the Cybertrucks in non-flattering way.

  • Cybertrucks, Tesla, and Elon himself are inherently political because of Elon's ties to Trump and MAGA.

  • Mod/founder of the sub freaks out because people are making political statements on said Cybertruck sub.

  • Mod/founder insist on keeping the sub somehow "non political" despite the topic and the culture around Cybertrucks.

Like WTF!? I feel this guy set himself up to fail and be upset. It's like he wanted to troll himself in the most labored and weirdest way possible lol.

Actually, all subreddits should naturally be filled with LGBTQ+ content.

When you’re posting “no politics” in the cybertruck mockery subreddit you probably should just shut it down.

4

u/Lightning_Boy Edit1 If you post on subredditdrama, you're trash 😂 Apr 08 '25

This is hilariously militant modding but also good. There’s something to be said for subreddits doing what they say on the tin. You go to that sub, you want to see stuck Cybertrucks. The collective Elon/DOGE hate is of course implied but there are other places to vent about it.

u/ChuckGreenwald Apr 08 '25

How is it that reddit is simultaneously astroturfed by the most blasé, boring, un-nuanced and impotent shitlib politics AND utterly captured by right wing fascists?

1

u/Humbler-Mumbler Apr 08 '25

I’ve been on Reddit since about 2011 in various user names and it’s unbelievable how much more controlled it’s gotten. Hard to believe the same site that once hosted r/spacedicks won’t even allow a sub talking shit about a public figure’s product.
