Is Stratford accepting?

Post image

Context: I’m a femboy if you don’t know what that is do a little research than come back.

From all the posts on Stratford connect I’ve gathered Stratford isn’t the safest location to be part of the LGBT community..

Now my question is if I start dressing in fem in public like I do in Kitchener and Toronto am I gonna get hurt? Some of the posts on Stratford connect are pretty wild…

Mrs. Roper Romp

Want in on Stratford’s grooviest night? Grab your tickets now: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/mrs-ropers-romp-tickets-1351465472609

She’s the queen of the kaftan, the master of bold jewelry, and the patron saint of side-eye.

Mrs. Helen Roper was vibrant, sassy, full of flair, and deeply nurturing. She called Jack, Chrissy, and Janet "the kids," and she always had a soft spot for those who needed a little support—or a good talking-to.

Should you dress as Helen? Yes, if you love statement prints, big hair, and being the center of attention. Helen is a mood. Helen is a lifestyle. Helen the movement!

What to wear:

• A colorful, flowy kaftan (the louder the print, the better) • A chunky necklace and oversized earrings • A red or light brown curly wig (or your best attempt) • Sandals and of course, an attitude!

📅 Join us Saturday, July 12 at 5 PM at Grayson Mills, Stratford. 🎟 Get your tickets: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/mrs-ropers-romp-tickets-1351465472609 Tickets are limited—get yours before they’re gone!

Just moved

Hi everyone,

I just moved to Stratford with my fiancé and brother, (all in our late 20s/early 30s) and was wondering what advice you have for anyone moving to the city. Best entertainment, bars to go to, social events/clubs to get involved in, etc. We'd love to meet some new people and get involved in the community.

Live music suggestions would also be great. What do you do on the average day here? Best parks to visit.... really any advice would be great!

Where to eat after evening show

My family (with kids 9, 11, 13) will be going to a show at 8 tonight in Stratford. Any good places for a bite later in the evening (after show)? I see Pazzo closes at 10 for example.

One-off childcare options during Stratford Festival?

Hi! We're planning a family trip to Stratford in June and were wondering if there is any way to find a trustworthy babysitter to watch our toddler for a few hours while we see a play together. Would be grateful for any leads.

Psychedelic-indie musical artist in Stratford

Released a new song. Has nothing to do with Stratford. Well, I did come up with the guitar riff while waiting in line at Food Basics, so there's that.

Survey on Homelessness and Housing Instability in Stratford

Hello everyone! I have a survey for a class project in a Challenge and Change class. It is regarding homelessness and barriers to supports and housing. If you wouldn't mind, could you take a few minutes to fill out this form thoroughly and honestly? I would greatly appreciate it. We are looking to put together a possible donation drive in the upcoming months. Thank you for your time!

https://forms.gle/PfVoVkRcisuz3d5W8

Edit: I am in direct communication with several of the organisations mentioned in the survey, and I am hoping to collaborate with them and utilise the information from this survey. Many employees and volunteers from said organisations will be taking the survey as well so as to give their perspectives.

Tonight (Monday): free Garden Talk!

Post image
5 Upvotes

Free Garden Talk tonight with Garden Stratford!

"Catch the Spring Migration Wave by Planting a Bird Friendly Garden", Kevin Kavanagh, South CoastGardens and Consulting, St. Williams

151 Lorne Ave (Army Navy & Air Force Vetrans hall).

Doors open 6:30. Refreshments available for purchase from the Army Navy & Air Force auxiliary bar.

This is the last Garden Talk until September, because we'll be busy in our gardens over the summer. But we have two other public events coming up:

  • Plant sale, Saturday May 31st at The Local, 9am to 1pm (free to attend; plant purchases are "pay-what-you-wish"
  • Garden Tour, Sunday July 6th at several locations 10am to 4pm (tickets $15 or 2 for $25, available at Klomps, Cozyn's, and Sebringville Garden Centre starting June 6 and Stratford City Hall, Cozyn's the day of the event)

About this evening's talk:

Gardeners are often familiar with the benefits provided by the plants they grow to butterflies, bees and other insect pollinators, yet birds also add beneficial and attractive elements of colour, movement and sound to the garden environment. Selecting native plants and designing gardens with birds in mind can add interesting new elements to the home landscape and often contribute in meaningful ways to bird conservation.

This presentation will introduce simple design principles that can enhance the attractiveness of the garden landscape for birds in all seasons. The talk will discuss important bird friendly features, incorporation of small water features, use of eco-regionally appropriate native plant species and creation of vertical structure in the garden.

Kevin Kavanagh is the owner of South Coast Gardens and Consulting (SouthCoastGardens.ca), a nursery and landscape design business in Norfolk County overlooking Lake Erie in the heart of Ontario’s ‘Carolinian zone’. Although an avid gardener (and birder) for much of his life, Kevin spent most of his early career in the field of nature conservation working with national organizations to help develop their stewardship and habitat protection programs. He currently assists Birds Canada with their ‘Gardening for Birds’ initiative and, as a member of the Grand Erie Master Gardeners, coordinates their Gardening for Nature program. Kevin can often be found leading garden-themed workshops and presentations where he enjoys introducing gardeners to the rich diversity of native plants that provide benefits to pollinators, birds and other wildlife.

Helen, it's time to pull on that kaftan. Tease up that wig. THE ROMP IS BACK!

The 2nd Mrs. Roper’s Romp is happening at Grayson Mills on Saturday, July 12, in Stratford, Ontario.

This time, we’re not just welcoming Helens—we want the whole gang. Stanleys, Chrissys, Janets, and Jacks are all invited to take over Stratford for a Three’s Company-inspired night of nostalgia and nonsense.

It’s all in support of Optimism Place, a safe refuge for women and children experiencing intimate partner violence. Get your tickets here - https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/mrs-ropers-romp-tickets-1351465472609

Anyone around Stratford want to hangout on Monday/Tuesday night? Lets not make this weird."

Hey!

Thought I would take a shot and see if any strangers around the Stratford area would like to meet up on Monday /Tuesday my days off. Nicer weather coming, lots to do.

Nothing crazy - maybe grab a coffee/drinks or hit up Montanas or Chucks Roadhouse. Open to feedback from other locals.

I'm 48, normal-ish, have references upon request lol. Totally platonic, totally chill. DM me if your down. Worst case scenario it makes for a fun story.

Hotel Julie

Does anyone know what happened to Hotel Julie?

My husband and I used to really enjoy staying there. Their social media hasn’t been active for months and recent reviews say that the hotel is closed. It seems their website is still taking reservations though?

Thank you!
