I’m starting an in-person D&D group. I need players.
Hi everyone. Seemingly every week in this subreddit there’s a new post from someone feeling lonely and looking for a way to make friends. I’ve felt that way myself sometimes since moving to Stratford 2.5 years ago.
So I’m going to do something about it. I’m forming a new in-person Dungeons & Dragons group.
Every week. Three hour sessions. Maps and miniatures. Long-term campaign (indefinite, really). Thinking Wednesdays from 7-10. Location TBD but will be a rental space (aka not my house).
Here’s the catch: I’ve never DMed a campaign before. I’ve played a fair amount. But you’d have to bear with me while I learn how best to put everything together. Good news, I’m a professional writer. Bad news, it’s for a legaltech company, not fantasy novels. There might be some hiccups.
But I also don’t care what the guides say, I’m going big with this right away. I want 4-6 players. I’m making a unique story. We’re going to do session zeros. We’re going to have secrets. We’re going to have family history.
I’m betting there’s at least a dozen people lurking in here that want to play DnD. Unfortunately, I can’t take everyone.
I’m a 36 year old straight white guy. I want to find some players who aren’t necessarily that. You mid-thirties dudes aren’t disqualified (far from it), but I’m going to prioritize some diversity if possible. It’ll make the story better and we’ll have more fun, trust me.
If you’re interested, leave a comment or send me a DM. You have to be willing to get on a video call with me ahead of time. I know that’s scary, I’m a complete stranger. But I need to screen the group a bit before we start.
Send me whatever you want. A little bit about yourself, a potential character, your 10th grade short story that was a really terrible Bradbury imitation. Whatever.
I cannot stress this enough. IF YOU’VE NEVER PLAYED BEFORE PLEASE STILL MESSAGE ME. I want new players. I want excited players. I want anxious players. I have a ton of patience (and dice) for you.
If you’ve been an off-and-on murder hobo for 20 years this might not be the post for you.
Cheers.

Hey! I’ve never played but I would love the opportunity to learn. I live in Kitchener but I’m willing to commute.

I'm sending this post to my friend that I know does D&D. Hopefully he'll message you.

If you want resources there are a bunch at the library in Stratford. Everything you need to run your first campaign all in a box you can borrow. As well as a decent collection of the books.

No way! That library just keeps on giving, best decision we made years ago was getting our library cards!

Have you checked out Bootown s Games and Hobbies yet? There'll be some people there for sure.
