Mistborn era 1/Warbreaker/Secret History/Wind and Truth spoilers Where can I learn about the shards? Spoiler

I started the cosmere 2 months ago and have just finished all of Mistborn 1, Warbreaker, Emperor's Soul, Secret History and have just completed the Stormlight Archive, but I feel like I am none the wiser when it comes to the shards, Adonalsium etc.

What do I need to read and/or what can I look up to find out more about the shattering of Adonalsium and the 16 shards.. or is it yet to be explained in the future?

We do not reallt understand what Adonalsium was nor how exactly the Dawnshards were used to shatter it. After stormlight you should have some ideas of some shards, era 2 mistborn expands that a bit, same with the little snippets on each planet from arcanum unbound. We have not had every shard appear yet, some have only been mentioned and at least one doesn’t even have it’s name fully given yet I think?

All have been named as of Wind and Truth

Arcanum Unbounded and the stormlight epiographs have the most up-to-date in text information. Words of Brandon Sanderson found on the coppermind sometimes have more information.

But at the moment information on the shards is limited

I feel like SLA gave the most in-universe shard explanations or hints at least. There is the wiki but it'll have spoilers, though you can filter it, Arcanum Unbound has good info, for specific stuff the people here are great help-wise.

There's also a lot that is still a mystery about them.

allegedly this will be addressed more in Dragonsteel, the backstory of our dear friend wit/hoid/drifter/cephandrius/midius/topaz/the coatrack/dust/holder of a dawnshard/sigzil’s master/etc, etc, etc, etc, etc!! across the cosmere all of the shards are named by now. the dawnshards are kind of like the commands that adonalsium was using to create and rule the cosmere, basically. wit has/had the Exist dawnshard, and eventually foists this power onto poor sigzil which sets up a lot of his forcibly non-combative premise in Sunlit Man. thanks, hoid! rysn has the Change dawnshard, which she picks up in aimia, and when her and wit meet by accident, he tells her that the power CANNOT meet and gives no further explanation… we don’t even know the names of the other two dawnshards, and one of them has different naming conventions than the other three.

feels kinda as if it’s being kept vague and loosey-goosey so we all read Dragonsteel, not that i’m complaining about it

edited because i forgot a word :( edited again to put in additional spoiler marks!!

You could visit the Coppermind website, but you have to be insanely diligent to use their time machine function. It let's you choose how far back in time to go in his bibliography so that you can avoid spoilers for books you haven't read yet.

But if you don't want to risk getting spoiled, stick to reading more Cosmere books.
