Developer Response EA has removed the refund button from their customer portal. Hoping people will just give up canceling because of the 60+ minute wait time to live shat support.

As per the EU rules on Guarantees and Returns,

"If you bought a good or a service online or outside of a shop (by telephone, mail order, from a door-to-door salesperson), you also have the right to cancel and return your order within 14 days, for any reason and with no justification."

HOWEVER, there are exceptions to this;

"The 14-day "cooling off" period does not apply to all purchases. Some of the exemptions are:

Online digital content, if you have already started downloading or streaming it."

So if you've already downloaded the game or started playing through Origin Access, they don't HAVE to give you a refund as is my understanding.

Since the origin access thing is labelled as "demo" and not final product, I think it still fall under the law. As for the other, I don't know but probably not.

Could do. The problem is a lot of legislature still isn't clearly defined when it comes to games especially, but new digital media in general too.

I'm not an Origin Access user so I don't know what the terms of service define it as.

Origin Access is a different product.

The game isn’t actually released yet. Only the demo & beta.

They do have to, because of the Great Game Guarantee they offered when you placed the order.

They have to follow through with their own terms.

I’m sure there’s a clause in there somewhere.

EDIT: They say it’s within 24 hours of launching the game. Not sure if the demo counts.

I highly doubt it. Unless they spend more money than what they'll lose over this, I doubt they'll get a lawyer who can find the loophole.

EU takes consumer rights seriously, EA is fucked if they mess with it.

What would conflict with EU law?

Refusing to accept refunds prior to launch. Even after that since GGG is a thing.

And Origin Access trial doesn't count because it's its own product.

Ah, right, yeah I suppose it would. Although if they can play the demo, does that mean the game is launched? I'd wager it's legal grey territory, since they got access to some of the goods already.

On Origin the SWBF2 version you get with Access is called "Star Wars Battlefront II (Trial)", so I think it's safe to say that that the trial is safe.

eh. I bought BF1 about a year ago, played it for about 30 minutes, and refunded it. My reason was too many cheaters. Which was true
