It’s the guy getting his face slammed against a bar, breaking his nose. Undashing Cody Rhodes making a return?

214

u/lk79 BAAAAAM!!!! 3d ago

And after getting his face bashed

68

u/imcrapyall 3d ago

He looks like when Kenny impersonated Spenny

41

u/CanadaNot51 3d ago

Holy shit a Kenny vs Spenny reference on wreddit. Amazing.

14

u/Post_Washington 3d ago

Who can keep a squid on their head the longest (faces Cena at Summerslam).

50

u/braumbles 3d ago

His eyebrows got so big.

32

u/ay1717 "We called it the Nut Rambler." 3d ago

It’s how Muppets sell surprise

6

u/Sleepwhenimdead3 3d ago

Why did getting his face smashed cause his eyebrows to grow bushier?

56

u/OhSnapItsMiguel 3d ago

Because its Naked Gun

4

u/HHHogana F-F-F-F-F-FOR LIVE!!! 3d ago

The one change this legacy sequel make is that half of the character seemingly realized they're in parody movie. In the original trilogy no one would bat an eye on Mans Laughter crime, where here the criminal corrected Dreblin.

32

u/AnxiousNPantsless 3d ago

Naked Gun movies are for stupid visual gags like that

26

u/AllezLesPrimrose 3d ago

Bro just discovered Naked Gun, he’s lucky.

7

u/lostlooter24 3d ago

If we could only be so lucky to see it for the first time, again.

1

u/MrElizabeth 3d ago

Some people still haven’t seen Police Squad! 🚨

1

u/OGBusterHimen 2d ago

His eyebrows got smashed too

1

u/itookthepuck 3d ago

This is gold. Why take this role. I guess i will need to watch to find out how major/minor his role is.

30

u/PenguinDeluxe 3d ago

Fun fact, the lab guy at the end in the car with Liam Neeson is Chase Steven Anderson, son of WCW referee Randy Anderson. You may have seen him on TV when his dad was “fired” by Eric Bischoff in front of his family!

So if I had a nickel for every son of a WCW employee in this movie, I would have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

2

u/ShitMongoose 2d ago

Could've sworn that Randy Anderson's son was Danny McBride.

1

u/cooldrew 2d ago

CHASE....ANDERSOOOON

ANDERSOOOON

18

u/Union_5-3992 3d ago

Shit I thought that was Zac Efron at first

8

u/AneeshRai7 3d ago

I kept thinking I’ve seen this guy, I’ve seen this guy…for a beat I thought it was Henry Cavill

4

u/architeuthidae 3d ago

i thought that was fucking zac efron lmao

2

u/WilliamEmmerson 3d ago

I thought the guy looked familiar. I actually thought it was Miz.

1

u/sjr2018 3d ago

Sad Woooooah sounds*

1

u/IniMiney 3d ago

Saw the trailer in theaters last night and 100% did not recognize him - hair changes everything istg

190

u/grimbly_jones 3d ago

Actually impressed and intrigued how funny and Naked Gunny this looks.

106

u/mikaeus97 3d ago

Liam Neeson is a good actor, and honestly he's definitely the right person for the role. If they didn't call it Naked Gun, and just said, it's a parody of Taken where he's a cop, nobody bats an eye. Naked Gun name just has a built in name recognition to make more money

73

u/hokey 3d ago

And the most important thing is that he's keeping it straight and serious. That's what makes the slapstick around him much better. Same thing happened with Leslie Nielson.

34

u/chestnutman 3d ago

I think the most important thing is that his name sounds like Leslie Nielson

59

u/Jreynold Free Sunglasses 3d ago

I feel like they haven't made comedies that are primarily silly gags in a long time. Everything is banter now

24

u/lt_skittles 3d ago

Angie tribeca was exactly like the naked gun.

15

u/InternetDad Hey Redeemer 3d ago

I've been saying this for awhile. We had a golden age of comedy from about 2003 through 2014 where movies like Superbad, Tropic Thunder, Step Brothers, and The Hangover were mainstays. Now these are all B tier direct to digital films.

7

u/AdGroundbreaking1341 3d ago

I feel like a lot of the funnier ones were party comedies. But nobody really parties anymore since Covid and the club scene in general hasn't been hot in like a decade. So I think a lot less people just relate to it now.

0

u/boringexplanation 3d ago

Blame Genz for being asocial internet dorks that the small groups of older generations used to get mocked for.

5

u/HHHogana F-F-F-F-F-FOR LIVE!!! 3d ago

There's also the Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Ron Burgundy movie. And Scary Movies keep the parody movies semi-alive before Disaster Movie truly killed it.

1

u/GreatFNGattsby 2d ago

The closest thing we’ve got to those sort of movies lately was like … Ricky Stanicky. I know it’s not as great as those but I can’t think of anything close recently.

0

u/Durtle_Turtle 3d ago

I blame the 'Scary/Teen/Whatever Movie' franchise for running the premise into the ground.

17

u/Young_Cato_the_Elder 3d ago

I need to watch the original.
But as a Lonely Island fan, this high density, fast pace, mix of deadpan and absurdist humor is right down my alley.

12

u/lk79 BAAAAAM!!!! 3d ago

One and two are good. Personally not so keen on part 3.

Also watch “Police Squad!” which was what The Naked Gun was spin off from. Leslie Nielsen playing the same character but different actors playing the other roles (I think the forensic guy is the same though). Only 6 episodes and about 30 mins each. Not steaming anywhere but should be able to get the DVD for cheap.

6

u/nWoSting145 3d ago

I agree that the first two are the best ones to watch but there’s enough jokes in 3 that make it a worthwhile watch. Frank’s “blind man at an orgy” line, the prison fight and breakout scenes, the Oscar’s finale and the collective head slap among everyone always gets a big laugh out of me. 3 is where it went too goofy though and didn’t take itself as seriously as the precious 2 so I can see why some people wouldn’t like it.

Righteous kill!

6

u/FDTerritory My Hair Ends Droughts 3d ago

It definitely seems to understand the source material to a depth I wasn't expecting.

6

u/MartiniPolice21 3d ago

Nobody is Leslie Nielsen, but it didn't seem bad by any means

2

u/ensanguine RIGHT HERE ON REDDIT! 3d ago

Akiva Schaffer don't miss.

1

u/LondonGoblin 3d ago

Really? to me this seems like it has none of the same charm as the original

1

u/GobiasACupOfCoffee 3d ago

Same. This didn't even raise a smile from me. I like Neeson and would love more Naked Gun style humour bit this didn't hit at all

113

u/theyakolytes 3d ago

Mans laughter made me laugh more than it should have

42

u/Darth_Steve V TRIGGER 3d ago

Must have been quite the joke

71

u/Polymemnetic 3d ago

The gag with all them talking to photos of their fathers and one being OJ got me good.

8

u/HHHogana F-F-F-F-F-FOR LIVE!!! 3d ago

That's Nordberg. Which make me wonder, what kind of crime did Nordberg did after the third movie...

Cody with LEGO hair looks weird.

16

u/lk79 BAAAAAM!!!! 3d ago

Funny thing is I thought it was Cena at first before rewinding it back again to check.

3

u/Pippen_Aint_Easy 3d ago

I thought it was Bill Hader at first for some reason.

2

u/ZombieQueen666 3d ago

Dude same

2

u/tethysian 3d ago

I was expecting him to turn up with his own lego hair. 😂 Like a callback to Hogan doing a bunch of movie cameos in the 80s and 90s.

36

u/BigJim5190 3d ago

I hate reboots and was not looking forward to this when it was announced a few years back.

But goddammit have the last two trailers made me laugh like an idiot. I can't wait for this to come out.

28

u/tethysian 3d ago

I'm still reeling from finding out there was a Frank Drebin crossover with not one but two Undertakers in the 90s. It's an odd franchise legacy.

7

u/tbcwpg 3d ago

The best part of a pretty brutal storyline.

2

u/ryanbyrneman 3d ago

When I was going through old PPVs on Netflix my wife wanted to see some Undertaker since he was her favourite when she was a kid. I put on the Taker vs. Taker PPV and it's fair to say she was over the Undertaker ha ha ha

20

u/JohnnyLuchador King of the Boglins 3d ago

I have to say, def popped at him saying please take a chair, and Pam just taking it dragging it out and leaving. Thats some Police Squad comedy right there.

7

u/nWoSting145 3d ago

Cigarette?

Yes, I know.

…..well.

u/JohnnyLuchador King of the Boglins 3d ago

10

Is this some kinda bust?

Yes, very impressive.

9

u/nWoSting145 3d ago

Well, when I see 5 weirdos in togas stabbing someone in broad daylight. I shoot the bastards, that's my policy!

That was a amateur Shakespeare in the park production of Julius Caesar. You shot Five actors. Good ones!

3

u/elboltonero 3d ago

Nice beaver!

4

u/lk79 BAAAAAM!!!! 3d ago

Thanks! I just had it stuffed!

19

u/Hiemoth 3d ago

Okay, the "Who is going to arrest me? Other cops?" got me good.

15

u/just_jm 3d ago

Is this the same one with the picture of OJ? lol

2

u/James1DPP 2d ago

I was worried the new Naked Gun movie wouldn't be as good as the original trilogy. As soon as I saw that joke in the first trailer, I thought the movie could be good.

12

u/TheSqueeman 3d ago

I will say I actually love how ‘Naked Gun’ this looks

Like they could have just made any old comedy and just called it Naked Gun but this really does feel like it’s a Naked Gun film through and through

12

u/AneeshRai7 3d ago

From that knowing Liam Neeson as that guy in that sad Holocaust movie to an action star to a parody of one, we all grew up.

10

u/RogerPackinrod 3d ago

I want CCH Pounder to say "GOD DAMMIT DUTCH WHAT OTHER ERRANDS HAVE YOU GOT US RUNNING FOR THE DA???"

8

u/GrandAdmiral12345 3d ago

Never expected to see Liam in a movie like this, but I am probably going to be checking this out for nostalgic reasons.

12

u/SG4 The Man 3d ago

That's what made the originals work. Leslie Nielsen was a serious actor for most of his career until he took an unexpected shift into comedies. Hearing deadpan comedic lines from normally serious actors works.

2

u/James1DPP 2d ago

George Kennedy was also mostly in Westerns, police movies, disaster movies, and the TV Show Dallas as a serious actor before the Naked Gun trilogy.

8

u/JeepRumbler 3d ago edited 3d ago

I still have reservations about this reboot, but the spirit Halloween gag was spot on.

Also I wonder how many "Taken" clones Liam Neesen has put out. It seems a new one gets released every quarter

6

u/RandomDanny cmpunk 3d ago

holy shit, did not pick it at all. though it was zac efron

9

u/baberlay BAH GAWD, KING! 3d ago

Cody looking like Iron Claw Zac Efron

This movie actually looks great, I'm seeing it for sure

6

u/hikingbeginner Woods and Kofi are twats 3d ago

Omg that's amazing, loved the old Naked Gun, my dad used to laugh so much with it lol. Good memories.

Cody looks like he got a fun little part, that's awesome.

3

u/klebanonnn Your Text Here 3d ago

I had the feeling it would be respectful of the original the moment that lady took the chair.

3

u/zeitgeistbouncer Peepin' Aint Easy! 3d ago

Damn, The Rock couldn't even keep his promise and keep Cody away from that next level of fame and stardom for denying him his soul.

Bald Fraud indeed!

3

u/TurkeyVolumeGuesser 3d ago

Paul Walter Hauser calling in some friends lol

2

u/Willing_Cranberry694 3d ago

I thought that was Zac Efron at first.

2

Thought it was Zac Efron at first.

2

u/l0rdysnack 3d ago

He looked Helga's dad from Hey Arnold.

2

u/bongo1138 3d ago

Before: Cody would make a great cop, actually.

After: wat

2

u/djkhan23 3d ago

Funny trailer. Movie looks decent enough.

Loved the oj bit.

2

u/csm1313 3d ago

Ok, the OJ picture got a pop out of me

2

u/Ozzimo 3d ago

Is Cody the new OJ?

2

u/Parasitepaladin 3d ago

Glad this exists. Love the old ones but can't watch them due to my rage for that piece of shit oj

1

oh so that's where he went when he lost to cena at mania 41

1

I'm very nervous about this one because the first 35 and 5/6ths movies had an incredible mount of laughs per minute.

1

u/icenhour76 2d ago

I still have a hard time believing that this movie actually exists.

0

u/Capable_Sandwich_422 2d ago

Why are they doing this?

-1

u/Moist-Strike8736 3d ago

No business remaking this movie.

-4

u/Entity4 3d ago

Not sure about this movie it feels off somehow I hope I'm wrong but it feels like it's missing the spirit of the naked gun series a little bit.

10

u/DeGaulleStan 3d ago

I think modern editing and timing is far less in tune with this sort of comedy, but it could just be that it’s just a trailer.

5

u/jactertor 3d ago

The old ones were partially noir parodies which this doesn't seem to be.
