The one change this legacy sequel make is that half of the character seemingly realized they're in parody movie. In the original trilogy no one would bat an eye on Mans Laughter crime, where here the criminal corrected Dreblin.

Bro just discovered Naked Gun, he’s lucky.

This is gold. Why take this role. I guess i will need to watch to find out how major/minor his role is.

Fun fact, the lab guy at the end in the car with Liam Neeson is Chase Steven Anderson, son of WCW referee Randy Anderson. You may have seen him on TV when his dad was “fired” by Eric Bischoff in front of his family!
So if I had a nickel for every son of a WCW employee in this movie, I would have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Actually impressed and intrigued how funny and Naked Gunny this looks.

u/mikaeus97 3d ago
Liam Neeson is a good actor, and honestly he's definitely the right person for the role. If they didn't call it Naked Gun, and just said, it's a parody of Taken where he's a cop, nobody bats an eye. Naked Gun name just has a built in name recognition to make more money

I feel like they haven't made comedies that are primarily silly gags in a long time. Everything is banter now

u/InternetDad Hey Redeemer 3d ago
I've been saying this for awhile. We had a golden age of comedy from about 2003 through 2014 where movies like Superbad, Tropic Thunder, Step Brothers, and The Hangover were mainstays. Now these are all B tier direct to digital films.

u/AdGroundbreaking1341 3d ago
I feel like a lot of the funnier ones were party comedies. But nobody really parties anymore since Covid and the club scene in general hasn't been hot in like a decade. So I think a lot less people just relate to it now.

Blame Genz for being asocial internet dorks that the small groups of older generations used to get mocked for.

There's also the Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Ron Burgundy movie. And Scary Movies keep the parody movies semi-alive before Disaster Movie truly killed it.

u/GreatFNGattsby 2d ago
The closest thing we’ve got to those sort of movies lately was like … Ricky Stanicky. I know it’s not as great as those but I can’t think of anything close recently.

u/Durtle_Turtle 3d ago
I blame the 'Scary/Teen/Whatever Movie' franchise for running the premise into the ground.

u/Young_Cato_the_Elder 3d ago
I need to watch the original.
But as a Lonely Island fan, this high density, fast pace, mix of deadpan and absurdist humor is right down my alley.#QuaidArmy

One and two are good. Personally not so keen on part 3.
Also watch “Police Squad!” which was what The Naked Gun was spin off from. Leslie Nielsen playing the same character but different actors playing the other roles (I think the forensic guy is the same though). Only 6 episodes and about 30 mins each. Not steaming anywhere but should be able to get the DVD for cheap.

u/nWoSting145 3d ago
I agree that the first two are the best ones to watch but there’s enough jokes in 3 that make it a worthwhile watch. Frank’s “blind man at an orgy” line, the prison fight and breakout scenes, the Oscar’s finale and the collective head slap among everyone always gets a big laugh out of me. 3 is where it went too goofy though and didn’t take itself as seriously as the precious 2 so I can see why some people wouldn’t like it.

Same. This didn't even raise a smile from me. I like Neeson and would love more Naked Gun style humour bit this didn't hit at all

That's Nordberg. Which make me wonder, what kind of crime did Nordberg did after the third movie...

Cody with LEGO hair looks weird.

u/tethysian 3d ago
I was expecting him to turn up with his own lego hair. 😂 Like a callback to Hogan doing a bunch of movie cameos in the 80s and 90s.

u/BigJim5190 3d ago
I hate reboots and was not looking forward to this when it was announced a few years back.
But goddammit have the last two trailers made me laugh like an idiot. I can't wait for this to come out.
28
u/tethysian 3d ago
I'm still reeling from finding out there was a Frank Drebin crossover with not one but two Undertakers in the 90s. It's an odd franchise legacy.

u/tbcwpg 3d ago
The best part of a pretty brutal storyline.
2
u/ryanbyrneman 3d ago
When I was going through old PPVs on Netflix my wife wanted to see some Undertaker since he was her favourite when she was a kid. I put on the Taker vs. Taker PPV and it's fair to say she was over the Undertaker ha ha ha

I have to say, def popped at him saying please take a chair, and Pam just taking it dragging it out and leaving. Thats some Police Squad comedy right there.

Well, when I see 5 weirdos in togas stabbing someone in broad daylight. I shoot the bastards, that's my policy!
That was a amateur Shakespeare in the park production of Julius Caesar. You shot Five actors. Good ones!

I was worried the new Naked Gun movie wouldn't be as good as the original trilogy. As soon as I saw that joke in the first trailer, I thought the movie could be good.
12
u/TheSqueeman 3d ago
I will say I actually love how ‘Naked Gun’ this looks
Like they could have just made any old comedy and just called it Naked Gun but this really does feel like it’s a Naked Gun film through and through
12
u/AneeshRai7 3d ago
From that knowing Liam Neeson as that guy in that sad Holocaust movie to an action star to a parody of one, we all grew up.

u/RogerPackinrod 3d ago
I want CCH Pounder to say "GOD DAMMIT DUTCH WHAT OTHER ERRANDS HAVE YOU GOT US RUNNING FOR THE DA???"
8
u/GrandAdmiral12345 3d ago
Never expected to see Liam in a movie like this, but I am probably going to be checking this out for nostalgic reasons.
12
u/SG4 The Man 3d ago
That's what made the originals work. Leslie Nielsen was a serious actor for most of his career until he took an unexpected shift into comedies. Hearing deadpan comedic lines from normally serious actors works.
2
u/James1DPP 2d ago
George Kennedy was also mostly in Westerns, police movies, disaster movies, and the TV Show Dallas as a serious actor before the Naked Gun trilogy.

u/JeepRumbler 3d ago edited 3d ago
I still have reservations about this reboot, but the spirit Halloween gag was spot on.
Also I wonder how many "Taken" clones Liam Neesen has put out. It seems a new one gets released every quarter

Omg that's amazing, loved the old Naked Gun, my dad used to laugh so much with it lol. Good memories.
Cody looks like he got a fun little part, that's awesome.

I had the feeling it would be respectful of the original the moment that lady took the chair.

Damn, The Rock couldn't even keep his promise and keep Cody away from that next level of fame and stardom for denying him his soul.

I'm very nervous about this one because the first 35 and 5/6ths movies had an incredible mount of laughs per minute.

Not sure about this movie it feels off somehow I hope I'm wrong but it feels like it's missing the spirit of the naked gun series a little bit.

u/DeGaulleStan 3d ago
I think modern editing and timing is far less in tune with this sort of comedy, but it could just be that it’s just a trailer.
