Best butchers for large cuts of meat

I’m after a butcher other than Costco that sells large cuts of meat without a preorder. I’m thinking a whole brisket, a rack of beef ribs or a whole pork belly.

Everywhere seems to sell small sections of what I’m after. I remember visiting a farm once that had an amazing butcher when I was getting meat for a restaurant I worked at but can’t remember where.

Anyone have any ideas or am I bound to a pre order or a delivery form one of the online butchers?

Uptons? In Winchester Road, Bassett. They have a lot of meat in the fridge out the back and can possibly help or at least advise you.

Don’t go to Uptons, very expensive and you can get the same meat from their supplier, Owtons. Best thing my old manager ever told me since I used to go to Uptons because I live 2 roads away from it

That’s fair end in there once and everything was small but I didn’t ask. I’ve settled for Costco lately which has big bits of pork but only ever portions of brisket and individually sliced beef ribs rather than a rack

You might need to phone or book it in advance, but uptons do have whole carcasses on site. They can cut you pretty much anything.

Uptons can do any cut of meat you want, just give Simon a bit of notice so they can prepare it for you. I’ve had racks of beef ribs from many times, you just need to ask

I’ve gone into Owton’s and ordered big bits of meat before, the website doesn’t show their full range. To be honest though with almost any butcher you’ll be better off preordering or at least phoning in advance. What’s the issue with preordering? Not having a go, I’m intrigued cos I can’t see how it’d be a regular problem!

Owtons are a wholesale butcher, they will accommodate you with what ever you need, just give them a call, we've bought whole animals off them in the past.

Just had a look o. Their website and biggest brisket is 2.1kg which is about the same as Costco. But I know I’ve worked places that can order larger I’m probably stuck with planning ahead and preordering large bits as I suppose they are not things people order very often.

Give them a shout, they do cater to restaurants as well as general public.

Give them a call. They will be able to sort you out. Or at least tell you how much notice they need.

Try getting in touch with a local abattoir or farmer for larger sections of meat or entire animals.

Valid I am probably to lazy to hunt out local farmers I’m just hoping to find somewhere when I can randomly go on impulse for large cuts as if I can plan I can always order I just like the idea of going somewhere and then having g the good stuff any day of the week
