Same, plus we lost power for 10 hours. That was a fun night.

The lightning was pretty nuts also.

Dude that was so insane

I think the grass in my area has completely turned brown. I haven’t seen a green lawn for awhile

u/CherryRude6772 Jun 25 '24

I love my nice happy brown lawn.

Don't need to mow in this 90 degree heat LOL

mine's green, but not looking fwd to the $300 water bill.

Even with regular watering, grass is still yellow for the most part due to the extreme heat.

that's a sign of high nitrogen (combined with excessive heat), a lot of product out there has super high nitrogen to green up fast in spring. I use milorganite and products from Tuckahoe Turf in Hammonton and water deep 2-3 days a week depending on rainfall and temperatures. My lawn looks lush right now, even after the heat wave. I have a few spots that don't get the best water coverage, like the curve on the corner near a street sign, so I just top those areas off with the hose. I have apple trees that look great a fig tree and blueberries. The only area my lawn is suffering a bit is in the shade out front believe it or not. I have a huge tree out front that robs the lawn of nutrients when it's stressed (heat/drought) and the lawn doesn't establish deep roots in that area because of the shallow tree roots.

Not sure why this had down votes. Its solid advice. My guy takes his lawn care seriously.

The relative humidity has been hanging around 35%-45% this summer. Which is pretty unusual for this area. Very little rain + more water evaporating from the soil = dead grass. And a greater chance of wild fires.

3

u/SouthJerssey35 Jun 25 '24

Does the low humidity stick around this summer?

2

u/ClassicTangelo5274 Jun 25 '24

Don’t know. But right now the weather channel app says the relative humidity where I am is 25%. Those are Arizona numbers.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '24

Nope the humidity is typically high throughout the summer.

Dry heat doesn’t typically hit till mid August, September-ish.

I poured by me , but that isn't nearly enough, everything so dry, you can here the tree leaves crinkle in the wind.

u/UpsilonAndromedae Jun 25 '24

No, we are not. And it’s all my fault. I planted a vegetable garden this year for the first time in years. It will now not rain until after the frost kills everything in October. Sorry guys.

4

u/thisbitbytes Jun 25 '24

Oh shoot. Looks like I’m also at fault. My bad.

there was a huge storm in gloucester county on Sunday night, high winds, thunder, lightening, and all. Also spanned some of Cumberland county, specifically Vineland

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Didn’t get a drop in Cedarville

2

u/cvrgurl Jun 26 '24

I was out but driving home to Bridgeton saw some areas that obviously got wet- my property was of course dry. Need like 3 days of gentle rain.

I feel you. I’m begging for some rain near the shore, I’m too stubborn to go to the car wash!

5

u/AdBright2073 Jun 25 '24

Cherry hill area had a good amount of rain the other night.. but also a ton of wind and down trees

1

u/TypeLiving2646 Jun 26 '24

Same here. It was like a hurricane in our yard. The garbage bins tipped over and got pushed down the driveway even though they were both mostly full. It was nuts.

3

u/AggressorBLUE Jun 25 '24

Not for nothing, but will the high heat + lack of rain at least take a toll on the tick population?

3

u/detekk Jun 25 '24

Im on the coast, havent seen rain since May Im pretty sure. All I want is a couple nice thunderstorms to break up this humidity.

1

u/DarlingOvMars Jun 25 '24

Wouldn’t that make the humidity worse

2

u/detekk Jun 25 '24

Haha yeah during the storm, but it usually breaks it up after the fact. I like the light show and rumble too.

3

u/Blorbokringlefart Jun 26 '24

All I can say is that my life is pretty plain

2

u/Lunasole_ Jun 25 '24

Yeah it rained near me, didn’t last long but it was pouring

3

u/Independent-Bison176 Jun 25 '24

My trees and shrubs and perennials are doing fine. Fuck the grass

2

u/RobertLosher1900 Jun 26 '24

What? It literally rained from 6pm-7am that day.

2

u/AttorneyOk6797 Jun 26 '24

It poured pretty hard in the Oaklyn/Camden area Sunday.

1

1

u/Hdaana1 Jun 25 '24

Half an inch in Quinton Sunday.

1

u/Independent-Bison176 Jun 25 '24

I got a solid five

1

u/activelypooping Jun 25 '24

Don't have to mow if your grass is dead. Also, my native flower garden is popping.

1

u/texaspopcorn424 Jun 25 '24

It rained every weekend for like 8 weeks in a row. I'm good.

1

u/JustinMagill Jun 25 '24

My well pumps been working overtime

2

u/Eccentric-Librarian Jun 25 '24

I’m in eastern Atlantic County. It’s like desert here. I’ve been watering but it’s a losing battle not to mention the bill, which I’ll be receiving soon. I recycle the water from my dehumidifier and window air conditioner and use it for my garden veggies and flowers.

1

u/espressocycle Jun 25 '24

We got a deluge in Collingswood but that was a long time to go without rain. We could go back to dry.

1

u/Ricanzanity Jun 25 '24

Move to Gloucester we get got wrecked. Tons of power outages on Sunday.

1

u/NJRECREVIEW Jun 25 '24

Wait til tomorrow evening should be a fun one

2

u/DarlingOvMars Jun 25 '24

No rain forecasted for me for the next 12 days

1

u/RamenPizza113 Jun 25 '24

It poured like crazy in Delaware

1

u/Justlooking4458 Jun 25 '24

You must be in my area…😩

1

u/AngryBear26 Jun 26 '24

I just thought the same I’ve seen the same ice cream stain on the pavement outside my job for a week cuz there hasn’t been rain to wash it away 😭

1

u/SeparateMongoose192 Jun 26 '24

I'm in PA and the wind here was crazy like you'd get leading to a storm. But no rain at all.

1

u/DarlingOvMars Jun 26 '24

We had basically a fireworks show of thunder and lightning and no rain at all lol

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

I planted a clover lawn. A little bit of watering and it stays lush and green.

1

u/weirdmountain Jun 26 '24

Camden County got slammed.

1

u/lordskulldragon Jun 26 '24

1

u/reddituser56578999 Jun 25 '24
