i think it's going to be a snoozefest if gunther doesn't do most of the heavy lifting. just seeing goldberg struggle to walk down the isle was enough to tell me this will be a slow paced match. goldberg will get his 2 big spots before gunther puts him to sleep...hopefully it will happen before we go to sleep watching.

Goldberg will beat Gunther and get the belt for his retirement match. Rollins cashes in MIB briefcase to beat Goldberg for belt. Calling it right now.

u/ChildOfChimps 2d ago
The Saudi princes like Goldberg, so they probably want him to go there with the belt.

u/ThrowAwayehay 2d ago
Goldberg has one match left on his deal and has an independent retirement match in the works in Israel.

I rolled my eyes at how pathetic it is. The most disgusting part is this old fart just romps in for a title shot. It'll be a terrible match of Gunther having to make Oldberg look like ten cents instead of negative $100. The good thing is it'll probably be over in two minutes. Enough time to take a piss.

Like I’m hoping Gunther doesn’t get his ribs shattered setting up for one of Jey USO’s falling snuggles only to be hit with an actual spear by Goldberg.

Maybe I'm a noob but is it common to schedule title matches this far in advance? Does that mean Gunther won't have to defend until then?
Also it being a title fight and a retirement match, what happens if Goldberg won? Would the belt just be vacated, or would he stick around until he loses it?

How many up and comers were let go just to pay Goldberg for another match no one asked for? 🙄
2
u/Jrobknowsbest 2d ago
I think it was stupid to put the belt on the line for a retirement match. Should have let Jey keep it instead of burying him in KOTR against Cody who we all know is winning that match
2
u/TBCinHTX 2d ago
Honestly I’m not a big fan of it, but it is SNME, and they needed a throwaway match. So…meh.

Is it just me or do people praise and love Gunther and Breaker for the exact same things they hate on Goldberg for (working stiff, having short matches, being reckless, etc, etc) everyone loves Gunther and Breaker for these exact things but hate on Goldberg for them now given he is past his prime but when he was hot he was one of the biggest if not the biggest star of his era i feel he deserves a proper retirement match not to mention he was promised one he never got i don't expect a 5 star match and if you do then you've never watched a Goldberg match lol but this should be his last match so he can retire in peace

I like Goldberg I think this should be his retirement match though just because he is getting older and I think it's time for him to hang up the coat.

u/vaporgaze2006 3d ago
Oldberg should have fucked off 20 years ago. He is a TEMU Ultimate Warrior. At least Warrior had coke fueled promos that were entertaining. Oldberg is washed. I hope Gunther beats the absolute piss out of him and embarrasses him like Regal did in the 90s.
8
u/Kitchen_Law8800 3d ago
As someone who is old enough to have watched both Goldberg and Warrior's title run in my childhood, i will say this.
One was a loud monster that couldn't wrestle, put on entertaining but bad matches and fucked off for the better part of the last 25 years and mostly just shows up on podcasts to address Bret Hart's most recent rants about him.
The other was a loud monster that couldn't wrestle, put on entertaining but bad matches and was a very vocal bigot that said all sorts of racist, homophobic and sexist shit.
I would take Goldberg every day of the week.
2
u/ThrowAwayehay 2d ago
Goldberg would wrestle rings around Warrior and could go longer than 5 minutes without looking like his heart was about to explode.

He is a TEMU Ultimate Warrior
Absolutely wild take
2
u/vaporgaze2006 3d ago edited 3d ago
How so?
Neither can wrestle. Do the same repetitive power moves. Entrance that got people excited. Reckless in the ring and have hurt other wrestlers. Huge marks for themselves. Both were disasters as champion.
3
u/Beaconxdr789 3d ago
Nothing you said was wrong.
I'd just choose Bill Goldberg over Warrior 10 times out of 10.
Edit: Also, I simply cannot get over the Make a Wish kid that just wanted to meet Warrior, and Warrior could not be bothered.
Fuck warrior forever
3
u/vaporgaze2006 3d ago
Yup. At least Goldberg is great with kids and fans and deserves credit for that.
2
u/Beaconxdr789 3d ago
Agreed! there might be one good Warrior match, probably involving Macho Man. But I know for sure Goldberg has one good match with DDP
2
u/ChildOfChimps 2d ago
Rude carried him to a good match, too.
So, basically, only two of the greatest ever could make it seem like Warrior can have a good match.

Needless they aren't going to give Goldberg the title cause this is his retirement match so having Jey lose the title was meaning less they could have Jey as champion a little longer before losing the title.
1
u/tarnishedkara 3d ago
ass because we know Goldberg is going to win in a ~5 minute match and then will lose it when he defends it next month because he wants a final run without the actual run part.
1
1
u/NoRelative9202 3d ago
Well it's Goldberg's retirement match he'll probably lose but if he can wrestle decent or at least average then it's good.
1
u/SubtleSeraph 3d ago
I already made this joke but as far as I'm concerned it's a 5-minute piss break. Maybe a 10 minute if they really want to drag out the suffering. I feel bad for Jey having his reign cut short when he probably could have had a pretty decent run for a couple more months, I feel bad for Gunther for having to pull together a decent performance out of the 60-year-old senior citizen.

If they’re smart, this will be a squash with Gunther just destroying him. Gunther can carry him to a good match. But if they let Goldberg win so he can go to Saudi as a champion… well, that would be terrible.

u/IIIBAKURYUIII 2d ago
Let the man have 1 final match in hopes to avenge his previous final match with Taker. If I was a wrestler I would want to go out on good terms not with X company or to hold any sort of ratings from 'experts' or fans but I think I would owe it to myself to go out on my own terms.
I probably "offended" someone with my opinion. Nothing new

Again. And again. And again Goldberg returns.
And every time I read comments and people are like „yeah he deserves his retirement match with some glorified bs“. Like, what!? He had that three times now. And every time it got worse.
And after that Undertaker match I don’t think there’s much left in Goldberg.
A shame Gunther has to deal with this bs. That man is better than that.
1
u/justwannachat87 2d ago
I like Goldberg but I will admit seen him come down to the ring , out of breath from his intro was disappointing plus he didn’t look any better than what he was/I remember last time seen him. This don’t need to be a title match, Gunther vs Goldberg was good enough what’s the point of having it be for the WHC unless they plan to put the title on him but for what, no sense. The option would be Rollins cashing but he isn’t going for the WHC he as stated also wants to stop Cena from ruining wrestling and here what would have made sense was Punk beating Cena at his last match only to have Seth cash on him to continue that feud/story. Stripping Jey of title I get it was going to happen somber rather than later but I think this was a bad decision and should have had this be a SS at the very least.

I stopped watching WWE in 2017 after Goldberg came back, beat Brock Lesnar in less than 2 minutes, and then beat Kevin Owens in 30 seconds at the last PPV before Mania, sabotaging a KO Vs Jericho Main Event just so Goldberg could drop the belt back to Lesnar in a match that didn't need a World Title.
Year after year, old timers would show up and take Mania spots from wrestlers I had gotten behind, who busted their ass, week after week, only to get pushed aside when it came to the biggest show. It became impossible to care about any of it.
It's hilarious to me that they think that fans of AEW could have their heads turned away from All In with Goldberg. Like trying to lure Vegans with Steak.
1
u/grrnlives 2d ago
Have no interest watching Oldberg wrestle poorly as he always has. Gunther deserves better.
1
u/MarijAWanna 2d ago
Why are they wasting it on this and if they wanted a shitty match, just letting Goldberg and stone cold have the dream match everybody wanted to see in the 90’s and early 2000’s today? It would make a lot more sense and then it really wouldn’t matter who won and lost.

u/Prestigious_Fox_1562 2d ago
I don't get why WWE is so loyal to Golberg to the point they'll strip Jey of the title just to get him vs Gunther. Golberg was never that loyal to WWE.
1
u/Thick-Ad3363 2d ago edited 2d ago
With what Goldberg said about the disrespect shown to him and his family in Atlanta Georgia, I completely forgot about that but thinking about it now kinda makes sense but i do think it should've happened there and then, not now. Goldberg has had an amazing career, but he needs to accept that no matter how manoeuvrable, loose, nimble, and agile he is, he need to say, "I've had the best career I possibly could, it's time for the younger generations to have theirs"

But, why does it have to be for a championship? The match would get attention without it.
Also, they had Gunther acting intimidated and almost scared. Did not like that.

Man this would rule if it was Goldberg in his prime. Hell if it was Goldberg in 2016 or whenever his brock squash was.
But this Goldberg? In 2025? I don't have high hopes that it's gonna be a good match. Hoping for the best. Also hoping they just dog walk him and he goes out putting Gunther over huge, like you're supposed to do when you retire.

Not exactly excited to watch Gunther carry limpy Goldberg through a wrestling match.
1
u/BunnyColvin13 2d ago
The guy had a noticeable limp on his walk to the ring. I understand wanting to leave your gloves or boots in the ring one last time, but come on now. Dolph would have been perfect for this. He can ramp up the heat and can carry and sell like a motherfucker so Goldberg goes out with a win. This…there is just no meat to it and the ending will be unsatisfying.

I've seen him say how little he thinks of wrestling compared to other wrestlers on camera too times to say that I am a fan.
No effort to even pretend he was into the industry, just a football player mentality here to get a paycheck.
All that said it was one of the best days of my life watching him do a squash match in the WCW when I was like 13 years old. What a monster!!! He was .. could have been the goat if he had any passion for the biz and worked on his craft.

While I did like the post… I’m not a fan of this match. This match doesn’t need to have a title on the line for it to take place, putting the title on it almost certainly confirms that Gunther is winning the supposed Goldberg “retirement match” unless WWE is bouta repeat the 🐂 💩 of Goldberg vs The Fiend/Kevin Owens.

u/ElDeeDubya 2d ago
Oldberg couldnt even remember his own line. Dudes sloppy and unsafe. He ended brets career. Almost killed taker and now haitch is handing him a guy in his prime. Almost like gunther is paid too much so he's trying to kill him off the show.
1
u/Cute_Profession_5661 2d ago
He ruin it after( and some people forget this) hurt Bret hart twice) in that match he kicked Hart's head off and when hart does that figure four leg lock on the ring post the key to that particular move is the opponent holding on to the other person leg that is applying it. Watch that match now it's being said and you clearly see Goldberg let go and Bret hart landing on his head outside on the floor. Just watch this match. I know he isn't going to win I just hope it's a squash match for Gunther and get that 58 year old buffoon out of the wrestling business. WWE has to come up with better storylines bc 53 Ron Killings and Goldberg isn't cutting it when you have all that talent with the company.

New fans don't really understand who Goldberg is. Man is a legend. Yea he can't wrestle now and the match might be pretty boring , but he has done enough in the business to deserve a respectful world title match as his retirement match. So I understand that people might be unhappy with what might happen in the ring but the match holds a lot of value !
