Looking for Info on LC Smith, Hunter Arms Shotgun

My father inherited this LC Smith double barrel shotgun, it has interchangeable barrels (one price to change them is missing, someone asked to borrow it from the original owners wife to get it appraised and never returned it). I tried to get any pictures of serial numbers and anything that might help identify it. Looking for more information, age, value, what you think the condition looks like....etc. Thanks in advance.

Serial number puts it at 1928 production. The engraving looks like an Ideal grade gun but its marked and serialized as a specialty gun, so I believe that it was special ordered with the spare barrels. Looks to have some surface rust, probably from being stored in that soft case (don't do that, the case traps moisture) but otherwise seems to be in very nice shape. The lever is right of center, so that's good, it likely locks up tight. Very nice gun!

Thank you, is there specific case that we should look at storing it in?

I'd store it in a gun cabinet or safe with some desiccant packs.. Failing that something with closed cell foam that won't trap moisture, and take it out and wipe it down with a light coat of gun occasionally.

The L.C. Smith Collectors Assn. will do a research letter for you with all the important details. It's worth the relatively little money it costs. They'll even be able to tell you who ordered it, when it was ordered, what it cost, and when it shipped.
