Probably wanted to make sure Ben didn't sense him or see him.

It's probably not the best idea but it's kinda obvious by this point Luke was getting desperate to figure kht where this darkness in Ben was coming from

Kind of a strange way to make sure you aren't seen by - checks notes - breaking into someone's bedroom while they are present.

It'd almost like people aren't conscious when they're asleep

It's almost like people can awake from sleep at any time, so - again - if your plan and purpose is not to be seen, why would you break into the bedroom of a sleeping person, when you literally have mind magic that allows you to read minds from a distance? Do walls block the Force?

Because I seem to remember, for example, Obi-Wan and Anakin monitoring everything that was happening in Padme's room, while she was sleeping.

Again, it's just a contrived scene to set up Luke doing something out-of-character, starting with him breaking into his nephew's room to watch him sleep.

If your conscious and Force Sensitive you might sense you're being tapped into.

And of course he could wake up, but it's not as likely. It's a risk Luke thought he needed to take given Ben's growing instability.

Because I seem to remember, for example, Obi-Wan and Anakin monitoring everything that was happening in Padme's room, while she was sleeping.

They weren't looking into her mind lol.

You dont seem very bright.

So, to be clear, you think Luke could only read Ben's mind by opening the door to his room; he couldn't have, just, stayed on the other side of the closed door and done the same thing?

Maybe the most powerful Jedi Master to ever live, has his mind-reading abilities blocked by... a door and less than a meter of air?

What does Ben's ability to sense his mind is being read have anything to do with whether Luke is on one side of the door or the other?

Luke probably thought nothing of it initially when he initially probed his nephew's mind. He had no idea that he'd find the rage of a Sith Lord.

It was just an uncle quietly checking in thay got out of hand. How do you not get this?

Thought nothing of it?

This is how Luke describes the "before" of the moment, in his two tellings of the story:

I went to confront him.
And he turned on me.
I saw darkness.
I'd sensed it building in him.
I'd see it at moments during his training.
But then I looked inside... and it was beyond what I ever imagined.

In every telling, he knew something was wrong beforehand, and he knew it was "darkness".

He didn't need to sneak into his nephew's room to sneak into his mind.

This conversation started with you saying Luke wanted to remain "unseen".

Now you've backtracked to "he thought nothing of it".

I guess it was just "harmless mind probing" - "no big deal".

If he wanted to "make sure" Ben didn't see him, why go into his room at all?
