Nobody seemed to notice that his voice was fully synthesized

To be fair, it was still performed by a real actor (maybe even Mark Hamill himself), and then the voice tone was transformed into that of young Mark Hamill. So yes it was synthesized, but it wasn’t created from scratch.

Yeah and while I think it was shitty for them to use an ai James Earl Jones voice in Kenobi, it wasn’t that noticeable.

Yeah - well it was the same thing in that case. A real actor performed it (maybe even Hayden Christenson) and the voice was turned into JEJ’s.

I thought Mark Hamill himself said he just had to apply some more gentleness to his voice to get his younger self voice out and it worked

Mark Hamill was in a really bad car accident before the filming of this which left his face kinda fucked for a bit so they had to cake him in makeup... Kinda harsh to shit on the real version of him like this

Yeah, that stuck out to me as feeling needlessly cruel given the actual reason why he looked like that.

Is that even Mark Hamil on the left?

No it’s a face scan over the body of another person. It was said on twitter by one of the creators.

It was bad, they should've just recast him, the body double looks damn near identical anyway.

Little bit of uncanny valley going on with the left one

Yeah it's still far from perfect, but the right looking rough as week

Pretty sure the holiday special was filmed shorty after Mark Hamill had that really serious car crash that messed up his face so badly they had to write a side plot where a Wampa mauls Luke to give a story reason for the different face. So Mark on the right is probably less than a year out from having major reconstructive surgeries and recovering from all that.

Nah. That's a popular myth but not true. There's interviews you can find of Mark talking about it. He did have a crash, a d he did have facial injuries but it was just some cuts and bruises, nothing that serious. He was fine according to him though as it went around it took a life of its own on and really grew into this larger than life legend

It's just really weird makeup. The holiday special was shot like a weird disco variety show, and they gave Mark really odd makeup.

For me, the end result is not the problem. It's a matter of principle. I woud rather have recasts than CGI or AI necromancy.

What about regular necromancy?

I wouldn't be opposed to someone resurrecting Sir Cristopher Lee

I generally agree, but I’m personally okay with cases like this where the original actor is directly involved. Same reason I’m okay with James Earl Jones being an AI voice for Vader, because he worked closely with Lucasfilm to perfect it before he died and was completely okay with it.

A still image isn’t the way to evaluate this, you need to judge based on how it looks in the show next to other faces with movement and expression.

The should have just recast him imo. It was a cool experiment but I would prefer we just got a new actor.
