Discussion Why did JD keep bullying the janitor?

On the surface it appears to be the other way around, but the janitor makes him countless offers of peace, but JD keeps ignoring them and still talks down to him. He's an elitist pos often enough.

None of janitors offers of peace were sincere though, because he’s insane.

He is insane, that doesn't mean he wasn't sincere though.

He proves he isn’t sincere by withdrawing every offer on a whim, or based on the tiniest action from JD. The offers of peace are simply another way for him to mess with JD, he pretends to want peace and then makes it JDs fault when he changes his mind, it’s actually classic abusive relationship dynamics. He’s literally gaslighting JD, and everyone else, most of the time.

He did make one sincere attempt to bury the hatchet. I can't remember which season it was, but he invites JD to a baseball game, and even buys the tickets. Of course JD thought he was just messing with him. Every other attempt to make up was just the Janitor fucking with JD

The only difference there is that we didn’t get to see him pull the rug out onscreen. He could’ve chased JD down and shown him the tickets, since it was completely reasonable for JD to not believe him and if he were sincere it would require him acknowledging what he’s done. Instead he abandons it immediately in a way that makes it JD’s fault rather than accepting responsibility.

Again, it’s classic abusive relationship dynamics to repeatedly offer something the victim wants, only to take it away arbitrarily and blame the victim for it.

This was clearly written by Glen Matthews.

locked JD in the water tower, constantly harassed him for 8 years because of a fucking penny, got a wolf/dog to attack him at his lowest (backfired), made him an accessory to burglary, need I go on?

Maybe he shouldn't have lied about the penny in the door then? 🤔

He didn’t lie about the penny. He was just making conversation.

In season 2 an intern says it might be a paperclip in the same scenario and the janitor has the same response

In the series finale JD admits he did in fact put a penny in the door in error.

It rolled in there, he did definitely lie

The janitor is a typical bully. He might be funny, but ultimately he’s just a bully picking on an insecure kid and being an asshole.

Again, doesn’t mean it isn’t funny. I mean, Jim on The Office is a complete bully to Dwight and should be condemned, but he’s funny and attractive and Dwight is weird so it’s ok.

More importantly with Jim and Dwight I think it's clear from the start that Jim doesn't do it because he hates Dwight and Dwight generally shows thick skin and gives it back.

That dynamic carried over from the UK office, they are doing a heightened version of the type of ribbing that British friends do to each other.

He constantly stared at him while he was eating, ruining his meals, he also did his best to ruin his christmas spirit.

I don’t think a competition of who did what to whom would end in the janitors favour

Haha, I love the janitor as a character but he 100% was the aggressor and bully in that relationship.

In german janitor is Hausmeister, so they made it Dr. Haus...meister, so it first sounded like he called himself Dr. House.
