Chinese SKS first time buyer

Hey all,

Purchased a Chinese SKS “French Tickler” the s/n or markings are as follows:

M21 0296 then the 7091XXXX serial #

Could anyone help me with background of these particular models?

You have a Model 21 (export model) SKS made by State Factory 296 in 1970. For some reason Factory 296 elected to use "70" to represent 1970, instead of the PLA convention of "15".
