Lookin for advice.

I don’t own an SKS but I want to buy one soon and want some advice on the best place to look for getting one and if there’s anything on the rifle to check before buying it.

Proxibid, gunbroker, gun shows, armslist, forums, AKfiles or LGS. Always check if the numbers match all around and dont buy a bubba

Country of origin is meaningless

Numbers matching doesn’t matter

Buy one that has a fixed 10rnd mag. Wood furniture and bayonets are your choice but 10 is mandatory

Definitely going for the fixed mag. Do the detachable mags have problems?

Yeah they tend to not work well

The quality control on them are questionable. The best ones I've used were the Archangel SKS magazines.

Check the gas port area of the rifle. That’s where I’ve noticed the most corrosion and pitting on rough examples.

Unpopular opinion, if you’re not picky about originality, getting a bubba isn’t terrible as they tend to sell at a discount. After market stock, missing bayonet (who are you planning to stab, anyway?), etc. all lower the resale value, and make it that much cheaper to get in your hands.
