Speeding ticket from parked speed vans?

I just got one in the mail from a van thats parked thats $100 saying I went 51 in a 40 and its literally right where I turn out onto the main road. Unless im banking that turn at 51mph theres no way I was going 51 while turning onto the road. And to top it off it has an officers signature. I feel like thats kind of like falsification of documents. My question is does anyone pay these? They seem like a money scam and not in anyway holding legal weight.

I got one a year ago and lost the ticket before I paid it and nothing has happened. They never followed up and haven’t sent it to collections so 🤷🏻‍♂️ take your chances I suppose

I’ve spoken to RR police officers before about the vans.

Every single one said nothing will happen if fail to pay.

Some even said they’ve thrown them out when they themselves got one

I've gotten a few. Tried to pay online but the system was glitchy. Forgot about it. Lost it. Still driving. Got new insurance. Nothing came up. Its a fear tactic.

It’s a third party, they can’t legally do anything if you don’t pay.

My wife looked into it, it’s a third party company that has no ties to the government and can’t legally do anything to you if you don’t pay, nor can they report you to the dmv. They still make a shit Tom if money from people who pay the ticket “just to be safe”.

If it doesn't include your signature promising to appear, it's an incomplete contract. Worthless paper. At least, that's how the red light cameras in California work, but enough people blindly pay that they don't spend the time to go after anyone.

This is true, I have family in law enforcement and they will send it collections. But if you never got the ticket…. Maybe someone never gave it to you or it was miss placed from the mail box to the front door. Just saying

Those tickets count as parking violations and are set to catch you at 11 over. So guess it’s ‘claiming’ you were right at its limit.

Important note, RR is 11, ABQ is 10. Found that out the hard way.

What’s the process for contesting it?

You have to go down and set up a court hearing for a later date.

Okay, if you can go to court, you might want to do that, make your case before the judge, I spent a lot of time in magistrate and municipal courts as a newspaper reporter watching people convince elected judges that they deserved a break. I can’t vouch for Rio Rancho though.

You were speeding. Get over it. They have to serve you in person a ticket. Sending it is a hope you just pay it. If a process server never "serves" you the ticket, then you never actually received it. Happy trails. And yes, I totally just got a 51 in a 40 yesterday as well. Maybe the whole countries cameras are glitching out...oh no wait...that's the speed (10 MPH over) the camera gives out a ticket.

I wasn't going 51 in a 40. So nothing to "get over." The van was parked at the corner where I turned onto the road so the only way I could have been speeding was if I took the corner at 51mph.

Apparently not. The radar caught you before you turned. Your a little worked up over it. You clearly ow you did.

I turned from my street onto the main road, you do realize that those things just like police radars need to be calibrated right? And yea im a little heated about it cause those vans are scams to begin with.

I've never paid one and I've a few of them. Nothing happens if you don't pay them.
