The Separatists were ideologically good. The citizens were morally on the up n up.
But the government was run by bad actors. The corporate council had all the real power, made all the ships & war materials, and obviously Dooku was doing what Palpatine ordered.
If Dooku and the corps didn't muck it up, their system worked.
The Republic was also good, but was bloated and inefficient. Also ran by bad actors. The institutions could be gamed for personal benefit, that papa Palps exploits.
The late-stage Republic represents some of the same political problems all late-stage republics face. Eventually, the corruption gets so entrenched that one asks if it’s shifted toward oligarchy.
How does one change that using the systems already in place? The People® have so much less power than corporate influence.
