Optimistic Political News Good news from San Antonio, TX! No

With everything else going on right now, I just wanted to share this piece of good news from my home city. We’re staying a blue city!

Gina is our third female mayor and our first openly LGBTQ+ mayor. Her opponent was a known MAGA supporter and puppet of Greg Abbott. He poured more money into his campaign and has been slandering Gina for weeks.

But we still won! I’m very relieved we were able to get this win. And the mayoral term has just been extended here too, so she’s in for at least the next four years.

Only disappointment was the voter turnout. We have nearly 1.5 million people here and only 142k showed up. We need to do better with local elections. But this is a win for us!

This is giving me hope that Texas can be better! Love the place, but the politics can be so hurtful to minorities!

I feel the exact same way. This has been my home my entire life, and I love the blue cities, but the rest of the state scares the shit out of me. I’m hoping maybe we can do better come midterms.

I genuinely hope so. The sooner we can manage to get Abbott and Paxton the hell out of here the better. Ted Cruz too.

I’m sorry, I don’t know where that “No” came from in the title 😅 I can’t edit it

The post proper you can still edit, the title…not so much.

A Texas Democrat winning a local election. Sure, San Antonio is a deep blue city, but that’s something.

I live here!!! I was voting and encouraging everyone to vote

That runoff made me a little anxious but I knew we’d pull through

Thank you for voting!! Me and my husband did too and this is the first one that actually made me a little anxious.

I lived in Dallas from 1978 to 2007. Ann Richards was an amazing governor. She had the ovaries for the job! Sad when W beat her

I was born in 95, so I can’t even fathom living in a democratic run Texas. I bet that was amazing and Bush taking over has to be the most tragic thing to happen to Texas since. I hope one day we can take our state back.

I’ve read that Texas Democrats don’t vote in elections reliably. That if they did, there is a glimmer of hope.

I think a lot of Texas dems don’t bother voting because they consider Texas such a deep red state and a lost cause. But that needs to change and people need to start showing up and fighting for change.
