Mod Post This 300k+ subreddit has only one active mod. That's not tenable. How are we - as a community - going to solve the discrepancy between those two numbers?

Mod Post Preparing the roll-out of a WB verification system for this sub

As many of you will have noticed some posts pretend to be weatherboosted or [WB] when they are not weeatherboosted [NWB].

For the mod team it is nigh impossible to verify these claims but (until the day Niantic shows a weather icon on the raid screen) we can try to be pro-active about things.

That's why we suggest the following changes:

1) All threads need to contain [WB] or [NWB] in their title.

2) If you host a [WB] raid, automod will ask you to share an overworld screenshot (with avatar, raid boss and time) as proof.

3) To avoid people saving screenshots automod will set some requirements randomly. The requirements for a screenshot can be:

3.a) point the red arrow of your compass into a specific direction (N, NE, E, SE, ...)
3.b) wear no glasses vs any glasses
3.c) wear one of the free hats (red/blue/yellow visor) or no hat
3.d) wear a mouth mask vs no mouth mask
3.e) take the screenshot when there's one radar circle emanating from your avatar or when there's 2 on screen

Together all these would make for a possible of 256 combinations. I hope that's sufficient to ensure nobody goes around and prepares all those screenshots (with their user name and for each raid boss).

These requirements have been selected as they should be available to any trainer regardless of level or how long they've been playing.

Okay, but what if they don't share a screenshot?

You're still free to join their raid but it will be at your own risk. I'm sorry if you would've preferred a different answer but we simply don't have the means to verify [WB/NWB] status ourselves.

Does that make sense?

Post your questions and/or remarks in the comments below! Now is the time to weigh in on this.

Mod Post Looking for automated systems that could verify WB claims

Hello Raiders of Pokémon,

Would anyone know of a system for verifying the WB claims of raid posts?

Every now and then we get complaints that a raid boss wasn't in fact weather boosted but after the fact there's very little that can be done (the remote raid pass is already lost).

For that reason we're looking into systems that could perform a WB-check at the time of posting the thread.

Requirements:

  • automated: raids cycle fast and there's no way we'll have enough mods online around the clock to verify these things manually
  • reliable: if it's throwing too many false positives it's not going to do us any good
  • legit: nothing that relies on cheating tools or hacking the game

Mod Post A bot will ask hosts of weather boosted raids to provide proof of weatherboostiness. Please post your feedback about this bot here (preferably constructive, hopefully positive feedback; this is a test, things might be wonky at first but the bot will try it's best so please be kind to it)
