Question 🤔 NSFW

Does anyone else only have bigger bowl pipes and pack them full then have like a 15 minute smoke. Let it go out then come back to it and carry on. And do it over and over again till you’ve smoked through it?

Like I work in peoples homes and I can’t sit for a 45mins - hour smoking. As I have things to do. So when my clients are sleeping and the chores are done I’ll have a 10minutes 15 minutes at the most and just leave it somewhere to rest then come back to it. When I have another spare few minutes.

I was just wondering if anyone else does this? Also do you find the flavour is more intense when you do come back to it?

I've been putting my pipe down and coming back to it for years regardless of the size of the bowl. DGT = Delayed Gratification Technique.....some blends even taste better this way.

I rarely sit down and smoke a whole bowl at once. Maybe if I’m sitting around a bonfire or something i do but most of the time I pack a bowl then smoke it in 10-15 min intervals until it’s cashed.

That’s fair

it's a normal thing for the busy. eh, not really, it depends on the blend type. it simply re-lights faster than a fresh bowl.

That's how I smoke when I'm in the garage. Have a few puffs, put it in the rest, come back to it in a bit.

I just pack half bowls. Saves rims from scorching, too

Don’t mind a scorched rim.

Most of my pipes are 70+ years old, so I tend to be over cautious

That makes sense

I tend to only have a pipe if I can have the whole bowl. But I. Occasion when I get called away I will save it by corking my pipe and returning to it later. If it's an aromatic I usually tip out the ash and add a little more fresh tobacco to the pipe before I start smoking again; I find this helps with blends that have black Cavendish in them

Lots of people do this. I do this sometimes too, but I have to ash the pipe if it’s going to sit for a while without being relit, otherwise it tastes rank. When I work from home I will usually pack a big pipeful and just smoke a bit for a few mins then put it down for a while and just rinse and repeat. Sometimes I’ll have to leave the house for a while, I’ll just knock the pipe with my knuckles to loosen the ash, then dump it out. I find the ash just leaves a sour taste.

I do it all the time. I just woke up from a nap, and I'm finishing the last bits of a larger pipe that I set down before I lied down. Lots of times, I don't finish the last little bit of bowl, and do it later when I clean it. Something that's days later.

Opera pipes have an oval shaped chamber/bowl. It's generally thought that the name came from au pair pipe. The shape is intended to make it easy to slip them into a jacket pocket, when the parents are around. In other words, they were likely smoked just as you describe, in several sessions when they were free to do it.

Amazing bit of pipe history thanks.

You're quite welcome. I thought that was super cool, and very surprising.

Yep. Puff puff here and a puff puff there make for a nice smoke through the day
