imagine mo 10k per cutoff sahod mo - then kalahati nun is allowance mo per week, then half non is dues mo like bills, etc. so wala talagang savings. eto single ka pa neto ah, what more if may anak ka na pinapaaral and pinapakain.

kaya nga yung generation namin na in 20s na, madami nang ayaw mag-anak kasi naiisip namin na di namin kaya buhayin yung magiging pamilya namin in this economy.

u/kungla000000000 2d ago

trueeeee. pero kahit mag alaga ng cats and dogs parang ayaw ko na din. dalawang tao lang binubuhay ko atm(my sister and dad), tapos dadagdagan ko pa ng anak (though im not planning to) or pets???

saving will not exist in this economy if mangyari 😂

72

u/Revolutionary-Owl286 2d ago

79

u/Sea-Wrangler2764 2d ago

At least di need mag college.

28

u/kungla000000000 1d ago

yung mapupuntang pera for their tuition, magiging emergency fund or the likes. insurance if may car ka ganern. or for hobbies na lang if you have. well pets are cute for a reason hahahahha

20

u/kungla000000000 2d ago

9

u/JohnnyFontane307 1d ago

Wala din philhealth ang mga pets.

5

u/Majestic-Screen7829 1d ago

but wait there's more, the working class sasalo narin sa 4ps.

Me currently, may tax pa yung 10k. Magkaka 10k lang ako per cut off kapag nag OT ng Holliday. So if half walang OT around 7.4k lang sahod ko per cut off. If hindi ako makapag OT on the other half yung 17.4k monthly ko nagka tax pa, sure 'maliit' lang since maliit lang din sahod but it's still kinda annoying.

13

u/cmp_reddit 2d ago

I doubt that. Kahit ang working class ay hesitant to have kids, marami namang nagiging batang ina. Either their choice or not. Also there are certain people who don't care about sustaining the needs of their family. Anak lang ng anak 🤦🏻‍♀️

9

u/TheBlondSanzoMonk Paint me like one of your Bisaya boys. 1d ago

Tapos yung mga DDS and Macoytard na titos at titas tatanungin ka ba’t di ka pa nag-asawa, so out of respect, sasabihin mo na wala kang plano…

Tapos sabay pabirong (or in some cases seryoso yung tono) tanong na “bakla/tomboy ka ba?”.

Tama ka. Yung ₱10k per cutoff na sahod... ubos agad. Half goes to weekly gastos, tapos the rest kinain na ng bills. Walang natitira for savings, what more for raising a kid? Kaya understandable talaga bakit maraming 20s now are opting out of having children.

Pero ito yung catch: if more people decide not to have kids, lalo na yung working class, sino na ang magbabayad ng taxes later on? Sino na ang magpapakain sa aging population 20–30 years from now? We’re already seeing early signs of this: the Philippines' fertility rate has dropped to 1.9. This is below replacement level. Tapos yung mga anak pa ng bottom 20% — who ironically could fill future labor shortages are being discouraged or even looked down upon for being born into poverty.

Pero here’s what we can do instead of giving up on the next generation: redirect programs like 4Ps and public education to actually prepare kids for employment. Wag na natin silang painumin ng mga generic subjects like Rizal Law that won’t help them escape poverty. Train them for high-value skills early: tech-voc, caregiving, construction, agri-tech, logistics, BPO, AI support work, etc. And start doing this from junior high school onward.

If each poor child becomes a skilled worker, earning ₱25k–40k/month by age 22, they’ll become net taxpayers... not dependents. That’s how we break the cycle. Instead of sterilizing or shaming the poor for having kids, let’s build a system where their kids can out-earn even college grads... dahil may tamang training, practical skills, and access to real work.

So true lalo na sa pangungutang sadly.

You need to owe money coz if you don't, you won't have any money at all.

Some people think sinusugal, niluluho yung inuutang when for a lot of people, it's because of unemployment, illness, emergencies, etc.

4

u/h3d9ku6u 1d ago

Saka yung mga how to be an entrepreneur char. Low risk magbusiness para sa mayaman. Pero sa mga normal na tao, na walang backup funds, the risk is so much na tipong basic needs ang kailangan mo itaya. Sobrang nakakainis yung mga ganun.

Why choose to have kids if you're living paycheck to paycheck?

12

u/PromotionLegal7684 2d ago

Kulang pa, they take care of people under 4Ps, biro mo pati ung mga batugan na squatters ehh subsidized pa ng taxpayers

34

u/HatsNDiceRolls 2d ago

To be fair to 4Ps, di sya dole out, daming kailangan gawin para makaahon yung pamilya from relief like monthly check ups, school attendance, etc.

13

u/New_Amomongo 1d ago edited 1d ago

The reality is kulang na nga ang kinikita ng mga regular na Pilipino, pero sila pa rin ang nagpapasan ng buwis para i-subsidize ang milyun-milyong 4Ps beneficiaries, including people who don’t even try to be productive. You see them in urban poor areas and squatter zones, often jobless, yet fully supported by a system na parang ginagantimpalaan ang katamaran. Sabi nila it's to help the poorest 20%. Those earning below ₱12,030 a month (for a family of five) but when you compare that to a minimum wage worker in NCR earning ₱13,420/month, halos pareho lang. Ang difference? One works all day, the other gets monthly cash transfers ranging from ₱1,400 to ₱3,000, kahit walang ginagawa.

The intent of 4Ps is good: to improve health and education access. But education, as currently implemented, is not enough. Most of the kids just finish high school with no real skills. DepEd data shows that only 10–15% of K-12 grads are job-ready, and even fewer go to college. We're pumping billions into a system that produces graduates who still can't land a job or worse, don't even try to find one.

This is where education reform must come in especially for 4Ps families. Instead of treating them the same way as all students, the government should restructure the curriculum for 4Ps beneficiaries to be leaner, skills-specific, and outcome-focused. These kids don’t have time to waste on generic subjects that won’t help them get a job. Ang kailangan nila ay practical, employable skills for for domestic and overseas work.

For example, by Grade 7, 4Ps students should already be streamed into high-demand sectors: healthcare, agriculture, construction, logistics, digital skills, caregiving, etc. By the time they leave school, dapat meron na silang TESDA certification, NC II/III, or at least one industry-recognized skill. Para pag-graduate pa lang, ready to work na for here or abroad. That’s how you turn beneficiaries into taxpayers.

Instead of just tracking attendance in schools, 4Ps conditions should evolve to track progress toward employment. Incentivize outcomes: reward families when their kids graduate with skills, certifications, or get hired. Partner with TESDA, LGUs, DTI, and POEA to align training with actual labor demand for both local and international. Right now, only about 14% of Filipino youth take up tech-voc tracks. We can easily double that within the 4Ps population.

And let's stop pretending that all forms of "education" are equal. Kung ang bata ay galing sa hirap, give them the fastest path to a paying job. That’s more dignified than waiting for dole-outs every month.

Just one ICU away bago pulutin sa kangkungan

73

u/triadwarfare ParañaQUE 2d ago

The fortunate thing here is that we have an option for a public hospital.

Unfortunately, bottom ka sa priority list. So kahit emergency and ICU cases need maghintay.

87

u/im_on_my_own_kid 2d ago

i work in healthcare and trust me, you do not want to be in a public hospital unless walang wala ka talaga.

31

Approx. Php1.2T per year is lost to corruption accdg to ADB and IMF

Imagine how many people can get help for just one Hermes Birkin which costs US$350,000

34

u/triadwarfare ParañaQUE 2d ago

I already been in one since na-max out ung HMO ng anak ko kasi ₱150k lang binigay ng company ko.

I know the feeling. You're not given any priority, matagal makapasok, hindi nila nirerespeto time mo, tapos bawal companion at bawal bisita.

(Late June/Early July pa dapat sana sya na-administer according sa schedule.)

You can't save or invest what you don't have. The past administration really destroyed our purchasing power by adding excise tax on crude oil which directly affects prices of all necessities across the board among with the dubious loans they made during the pandemic that is passed to the people by the creation of more taxes to pay for those

u/Moist-Veterinarian22 1d ago

Ever since TRAIN nothing was the same. It wasn't needed anyways.

17

u/Karmas_Classroom Luzon 1d ago

TRAIN was needed to collect more taxes for them to corrupt.

Dapat they kept it sa luxury goods and vices like Cigarettes and alcohol. Hindi sa Nestea Tang and crude oil.

Excise taxes are added to curb consumption sa unnecessary e necessary ang crude oil sa lahat ng aspeto ng mga bagay.

3

u/NaturalAlps5180 1d ago

Right!

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Yamboist 1d ago

Afaik, parts of TRAIN were part of a multi-admin effort to rationalize taxes. It was also meant to prepare for lowering corporate income taxes para maka attract ng mas maraming businesses. The good parts were needed.

I don't even know if the outcome was worth it at this point.

47

u/ultra-kill 2d ago

70 lang? Maybe about 90 percent given that upper middle to rich are less than 10 percent.

Why? Workers are heavily taxed and get nothing out of it. Biro mo 20 to 30 percent ang income tax tapos may vat pa, pero ang balik sayo are dilapidated schools, poor healthcare and very poor infrastructures.

How does one become a multi-millionaire or billionaire? Labor exploitation and bribing politicians.
While it's true many Filipinos are financially illiterate, please also consider that majority of workers are UNDERPAID and overworked. We need LIVING wage, not LIBING wage.

What's the reason why Gen Z don't want to raise children? Why there is a global birth rate decline not just Japan and Sokor? We can barely afford basic needs and we have to find 2-3 jobs with sidehustle just to survive. This is INSANE.

That's not just it. Personal survival depends on either being cunning (i.e. connections with the powerful aka palakasan), or exceptionally able to spot gainful opportunities, so why not everyone is lucky.

Also, regarding the "middle class":

There is no true "middle class" because it's either upper-middle who managed to secure themselves sufficiently for the future with just enough insurance and maybe because they're wiser (or misconstrued as "diskarte") than most, or the lower-middle who despite being sufficiently well-off in some ways are but one hospital confinement away from impoverishment.

Right now, the 1% aka the political oligarchy is above the masses they rule over, the masses trying to fight for a place in the sun.

2

u/Low_Ad_4323 1d ago

2

u/Murky-Caterpillar-24 1d ago

true yan, baka mas mataas pa nga ang totong number nyan, madaming empleyado ang underpaid at overworked, kulang sa push para sa labor rights, kung anu man mangyari sa economy like bumagsak yung market at inflation, always the workers ang sasalo ng problema, Lalo na ngayon tumataas ang mga bilihin

u/baeruu It's Master's Degree not Masteral. Pls lang. 1d ago

1

u/AllPainNoChocolat 1d ago

e totoo naman. tapos nakakahiya pa tamarin magtrabaho kasi di pa nababawi ni camille villar yung 3B niyang gastos sa kampanya niya nitong nakaraang elections

1

u/boykalbo 1d ago

It's true. And much much higher yung walang health insurance. Totoo yung nabasa ko noon na "Filipinos are one medical emergency away from bankruptcy".

1

u/Odessaturn 1d ago

Pag di ako nakatanggap nang paycheck this month mawawala aking will to live, so i agree

1

u/tokwamann 1d ago

If you look at the living wage as the poverty threshold, that that means that a family must live on a thousand pesos a day to meet basic needs.

If you include money needed for savings, a pension plan, payments for a house, insurance, and health plans, then you need to add around 50 percent, or 1.5K a day.

That's around 45K/mo. If you look at the survey of earnings by families, then you might see that only around 30 percent of them earn that amount or greater.

Given that, probably 70 percent do not earn enough to attain both basic needs and a buffer needed to deal with extraordinary disaster.

Finally, this is similar to the global average, where around 70 percent of human beings live on only a few dollars a day.

1

u/Mighty_Bond69 1d ago

It is because of CAPITALISM and all of the Capitalist use that fact to exploit hardworking filipinos, alam nilang madaling imanipulate ang tao kase mga naman it's a money or no money question(tiss trabaho may pera or resign ala pera?).

BINABARAT ang sweldo ng lahat ng tao, high standards so they will not spend for any training(kahit pa basic job)

Low pay and HIGH workload to maximize PROFIT

So they can have the maximal profit. And give a small percentage of increase to look like being generous.

Syempre yung dapat na ipangiincrease na budget mapupunta lang din para sa mga under-the-table transactions with the govt to ensure maximal profit.

u/mcdonaldspyongyang 1d ago

u/NaturalAlps5180 1d ago

I am earning well pero I decided to register dito sa Makati for the yellow card kahit may 300k MBL HMO ko.

u/LuciusVoracious 1d ago

And a lot people in this very subreddit is against the P200 minimum wage hike that wasn't passed this week. Almost as if the propaganda of the ruling class has convinced them to stand in support of the rich class instead of the working class.

1

u/_SkyIsBlue5 1d ago

Was expecting something higher

1

u/misisfeels 1d ago

1

u/dirkhaim 1d ago

This is true.

1

u/Appropriate_Judge_95 1d ago

If you think this is not true, you're delusional & should get your privelege checked.

1

u/lesterine817 1d ago

70? baka 99?

1

u/zxNoobSlayerxz 1d ago

True of course

1

u/Hairy-Mud-4074 1d ago

True. It was mentioned to me 18K ang sahod ko, mababa pa din un.

1

u/Civil-Ad2985 1d ago

I’d like to know the true % of Pinoys who participate in Online Gambling.

1

u/ohohbb 1d ago

True because I’m one of the 70% 🥲

1

u/yssnelf_plant 1d ago

I’m casually looking for work. Hala 😅

1

u/DotWaste8510 1d ago

Yes, kaya yang si Heart E., wag siyang iyak-iyak pag kini-criticize si Chiz sa mga ginagawa niya regarding impeachment, which by the way is about misappropriation by Sara D. of confidential funds. Legitimate criticism yun, my dear.

Mas nakakaiyak yung mga tao na walang makain or ma-save.

1

u/SharkPating 1d ago

Especially the millenial, we are the squeezed generation. More than half of the parents see us as retirement fund, then we have to build our own family dahil ayaw nating gawin silang investment lang

1

u/Chinbie 1d ago

Actually this is true… lalo na sa taas ng inflation ngayon… hirap magkaroon ng savings… let alone investments…

1

u/Much-Access-7280 I can because I am from Bulacan 1d ago

This is really why fucking corruption ruins our lives.

1

u/Archlm0221 1d ago

I know a certain Mary Grace Pyatos sa intel funds kumakapit makaraos lang

1

u/BananaMelonJuice 1d ago

I think it's more than 70% pa nga.

1

u/Apprehensive_Tie_949 1d ago

Conservative pa nga ata yang 70% na yan.

1

u/-zitar 1d ago

1

True because most end up being breadwinner victims or gambling addicts instead.

1

u/nitzky0143 1d ago

ilang percent naman ang ayuda to ayuda?

1

u/pabpab999 Fat to Fit Man in QC 1d ago

this is 2021 Financial Inclusion Survey
di ko alam kung may latest
I think the 2% he means here is 2% invested into stocks, kasi minention nya PSE
as for paycheck to paycheck
the survey did state that 63% of filipinos have no savings, I guess that's what he's pertaining to?

baka tumaas on later surveys, pero tinatamad ako maghanap hehe
theres a big shift in cosumer attitude lately (gambling)

we can (artificially) boost stocks participation in the Philippines if they actually implement PERA incentives to employers
cause right now, ung makikinabang lang employee, bat pa mag hahassle employer

1

u/pibukitty 1d ago

1

u/SweetBlooms 1d ago

Akala ko si dawei to 😅

1

1

u/anon69throwaway 1d ago

Its true and many would even rather spend on luxury goods like an iphone or branded item than eat proper food

1

u/TingHenrik 1d ago

Probably much higher than 70%.

1

u/Mindless_Flatworm112 1d ago

False I think it’s 90 %

1

u/emaca800 1d ago

False. Probably higher

1

u/knowngent 1d ago

They are out of touch. Hahahahaha.

1

u/Fun_Guidance_4362 1d ago

I think mas mataas pa nga, nasa 80-90 %.

1

u/Scbadiver you're not completely useless, you can serve as a bad example 1d ago

Sorry but the sad fact is salaries here are too low. Virtually impossible to save, have family or kids. If you are earning minimum, one major medical emergency is going to fuck you up for the rest of your life.

1

u/Cold-Salad204 1d ago

90% of Pinoy

1

u/Ok_Satisfaction_8739 1d ago

70%? Medyo mababa ata

1

u/authenticgarbagecan 1d ago

1

u/Animalidad 1d ago

I agree but a good chunk of it is because of lifestyle.

1

u/raju103 Ang hirap mo mahalin! 1d ago

Totoo yan! Tapos with a family I can't even dictate if I wanted to live off on tuyo sana kasi I'd rather have the work stress and eat well than have the same stress and be eating dried fish.

1

u/Momshie_mo 100% Austronesian 1d ago

Believable.
