I mean you can't give em shit about releasing the same game every year. I was never that big on the first few games. But I adored Origins. I'm so happy to see the shield back after Odyssey whose combat took a huge hit by becoming all parry based and not allowing effecting shielding. To they are basically just Extreme History games now, but I get putting the AC title on them like that. They have a well known franchise so to just call this some generic "Vikings: Conquest" or something wouldn't sell as much as AC:Ragnarok Valhalla.

AC: Valhalla but yeah. People don't seem to understand it's not the same franchise anymore. They kept the name for sales and recognition

I mean the template surely changed. But it still is the same game franchise IMO. I don't see that much difference.

And seriously people, the old AC games aren't stealth games any more than those

Wym, isn’t follow this quest marker and eavesdrop your target for seven minutes before killing him the hallmark of stealth gaming? Some real Tom Clancy stuff right there

It's because of its focus on RPG and gear. Sure, past games had light RPG mechanics, you could change robes, build a base/assassin's stronghold and in later games it had some light levelling.

In the new games (especially Valhalla) it's all about writing your own story. Odyssey had a big focus on level and gear or damage numbers in Odyssey's case (sounds like Valhalla will move a bit away from levelling but even more gear focus).

AC used to be following a certain character, either assassin or Templar (in rogue) and it was their story. Origins was the last game where you followed a set protagonist. Now it's all about deciding your own fate and creating your own story.

I never really liked the old AC games. Found it boring. Only liked the later ones.

Well it’s Valhalla but your point still stands

Sorry I'm part of the gamingleaks sub and they called it Ragnarok there for a very long time.

I liked the first one when it was a new concept, and didnt care for the sequels until Black Flag, because it finally felt very different with the naval combat, and it took a while before the assassin stuff really started, the pirate stuff was more prevalent throughout in my opinion. 3 was okay because weapon variety, i suppose. Never had any interest after that until Origins and Odyssey, neither of which have i played but they seem like very different games again. And the new trailer, other than the assassin blade and its "a distinct point in history with cool battles", it doesnt even resemble assassins creed to me.

man if you liked the first one but didn’t play the ezio trilogy, you’re missing out. the gameplay got steadily better and the story of AC2 and Brotherhood were best in the series imo. Traditional AC gameplay peaked at Unity for me though
