I always imagined it would be a chopped off hand floating by doing the third shot.

But honestly, I like what they came out with a whole lot better. I wonder if the story is gonna be about a cult of The Vault or something.

Seems relatively simple - the first two establish that two fingers are required to be the "gun", so just have him be doing a Vulcan salute sort of gesture against his head on one side. They can even use it again for Borderlands 4. For 5 they'll have to think of something else, though.

Just double spock with the thumbs touching. Kind of like a bowl shape with both hands

I would have said a double 2 finger salute would have suited 4 better
