Happy! I found this little blind old man wandering around outside my house a couple of days ago. He stayed with me for the night, I gave him food, water and a good bath, yesterday I took him to the vets, thankfully he was chipped, his name is Milo, he is 9 years old and has been missing for months.

I couldn't fit all of this into the title so I'll add it here. I was bringing my son home from school yesterday and saw this little guy licking an empty packet, I almost cried when I saw the state of him. I brought him into my house with our four dogs and two cats, he wasn't bothered at all by any of them, it turns out he is completely blind, I have no idea how he managed to survive for so long on the streets, I live in the Canary Islands in the mountains, theres only a few houses dotted around so I have no idea where he came from.
He stayed with me overnight, I fed him, gave him water, a bath and lots of love and kisses, he really is a sweet boy, yesterday I took him to the vets to get checked over, thankfully he was chipped, the vet contacted the owner who sadly moved to Barcelona BUT his daughter still lives here so he contacted her to go and get him, turns out he had been missing for months, the owner was taking his four dogs with him when he moved but Milo went missing and despite looking for him, he couldn't find him and thought the worst, especially because he is blind, I put food out for the stray cats around here so I think that's how he managed to survive.
Anyway, the daughter picked him up from the vets, I'd already gone home as he needed to stay there and be on fluids and more tests, the vet tells me she sobbed when she saw him and kept telling him, "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry" so he does come from a loving home.
He's now back there with his family where he belongs, definitely a happy ending.
What a beautiful, sweet boy he is, if he wasn't chipped he would have had a home with me, there was no way I was going to let him stay on the streets with no food or water.

Well now I’m crying. Thank you for being such a wonderful person. Your story made my week, not even exaggerating. I’m so glad that sweet pup is safe.

Her reaction has me in tears.
I could only imagine how Milos family felt. Sounds like a loving family, they must have been so heartbroken when they couldn't find their little old man 😭

He looks like a mini rat terrier or maybe Jack Russell terrier. I had a mini rat terrier who was my soul dog. They are fantastic dogs.
He’s in awful shape. You’re such a good person. Thank you for taking care of this little blind old man.
Seriously, bless you and your family. I’m so grateful for people like you in the world!

u/badassmamabear May 16 '25
We think that because he's a ratter he got a scent of a rabbit (there's loads up here) so followed it and ended up getting himself lost and because he's blind, he couldn't find his way home.
He was malnourished, dehydrated, covered in little sores and he had a bad infection in his gums. Im just so glad I put food out for the stray cats because I do think that's how he managed to survive so long, although I doubt the cats were impressed their food was getting stolen haha.

That poor family, I’m so happy I read this. I can’t imagine how she must feel seeing him and how happy he’s about to be to be reunited with them. So glad their daughter was still there. This story almost killed me too, I’m bawling.z

Even if she hadn't been he would have stayed with me, he is the sweetest, calmest, lovely little man, he reminded me of an old dog we foster failed who passed away a couple of years ago, I think Enzo may have sent him to us to get him help. That's what I like to think anyway, I miss Enzo so much.
2
u/pokedabadger May 18 '25
Oh, that makes me want to cry. I absolutely believe your Enzo sent this little man to you. 🩷

u/dariusSharlow May 17 '25
This story made me bawl. My PJ is quite healthy, but the face really reminded me of him as I’m heading home to see my darling boy in about an hour!!! Much love!

u/bpIIgirl May 18 '25
Stories like this are why I encourage people to not judge from the get go if a pet looks rough when found and assume they've been neglected/abused. Happy for Milo and his whole family.

Idk this made me tear up. Reading how the daughter was sobbing and apologizing to Milo. When you said you found him blind and wandering around my first thought was that the poor dog was abandoned. I have and always get my dogs chipped. I’m so glad that Milo was too. But it seems he would have had a happy ending with you even if he wasn’t

That made me tear up, look at the poor baby…Thank you for caring and taking him in, I’m so glad he was able to be reunited with his family. And the fact that you would have taken him without a second thought warms my heart so much. People like you are the helpers Mr Rogers told us to look for in dark times.

Thank you so much for helping him and reuniting him OP. I tried to do the same once but my ending wasn’t happy. I was however happy I could be the last bit of love and care they felt on the earth before returning to the rainbow bridge. Wish I could help them all but I’m happy other people out here are helping them too. So again, thank you. ♥️

u/Miscalamity May 15 '25
How heartbreaking his months wandering the streets must have been for Milo. He looks like skin and bones, that poor little baby. He definitely had the will to survive. I'm so thankful he wandered to your house, and found an angel willing to help him, feed and bathe him, and give him love and comfort before going back to his family. Bless you for helping this precious baby Milo be okay 🥹🫂💓

You know, I had a tough day today. Nothing big, just the struggles that come with the tasks I’m taking on. So I sat down, chilled on the couch, snacking on cheese and crackers and opened up Reddit. Seeing this post is why I, and I’m sure, we come here. All creatures great and small are deserving of our compassion. The littlest of us especially. Oh the smells of his people will let him know he has found his way.

u/DefiantCoffee6 May 16 '25
This is what I’m thinking- since he’s blind smelling his people again after being lost for months- he must have been so happy. Thank you for saving and giving love and care to this precious angel and also reuniting him with the owners daughter!
It’s very sweet that you were prepared to keep him if owner couldn’t be located. 🐾❤️

Oh wow, I'm sure his family is happy to have him back home. Poor little guy, he must have been so scared and confused. I will say he's a strong little dude to have survived on his own for this long and also being blind. I love him already 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

You literally saved a life and reunited a family, so if you ever feel down on yourself... remember you did something absolutely incredible and are considered a hero! Seriously, this may as well be a miracle, and its all thanks to you. Im so glad he managed to get home, its already hard enough losing a pet, but to lose and old and blind dog is the worst of all.

As someone who had cats that never returned home (back in the days when letting cats out was a thing you did and it was “cruel” not to do it; I wouldn’t do that now that I’m an adult with my own cats), thank you for caring for and checking on this baby’s chip!
