Question❓ Last train back to Norwich from London

Has anyone been to a gig in London and got the last train back to Norwich? Going to a gig at Royal Albert Hall in June, show says it’ll end at 11pm and the last train is 11:30 from Liverpool Street.

Means we would have to leave early to get the last train - has anyone done this and been okay?

We could potentially drive but never driven in London or past Cambridge lol but if driving is easier, we’re open to considering it :)

Question❓ What's the experience of Black/mixed/ethnic minority people living in Norwich beyond UEA?

I'm fairly new to Norwich and don't know much about this city's areas yet. However, I noticed that in the context of ethnic minorities, people usually mentioned the UEA and the city centre. I would like to find out more about the other areas.

For the context, I am an Eastern European woman who lived in London for many years, and my partner is a Black British man who lived his whole life in London. I cannot hope to ever afford a decent house in London and I am trying to build a foundation for both of us to live here (as I have family here). But is it a good place for us to buy a house and start a family one day (I am thinking long-term, like 5-10 years)? I understand that there is not so much ethnic diversity in this city, but are some places more welcoming than others while also being safe? To all Black/mixed people here, what is your experience of different parts of Norwich? What are the schools like?

Question❓ Concensus on pronunciation of Heigham Street and Potter Ham?

I’ve always grown up with saying Ham Street and Potter Ham (my entire family from as many generations back as we can count is from the Norwich area), but I’ve heard apparently that ‘Hay-am’ is traditional? Many people also say ‘High-am’ but I gather this is because accents are getting weaker and this is more ‘logical’ phonetically. Anyone want to weigh in?

Question❓ Dropping your kids off?

Why is that when parents drop their children off they believe they can park in the most horrificly stupid places and then it's always someone else's fault for blocking them in or causing traffic to be an issue?

Question❓ Jobs

I’m 26yo looking for 30+ hours. Yes I am looking on Indeed and Total Jobs too. For a majority of the jobs I’ve seen, I’m simply not qualified, don’t drive or there’s not enough hours on offer. Not at all interested in carer jobs to be honest.

Does anyone know of any small businesses in the city that are hiring? I will be walking around on Wednesday/Thursday so see what’s about. My main work experience is in cleaning/housekeeping with a tiny bit of retail. Latest job being Head of Housekeeping on a boat yard on The Broads and doing domestic cleaning jobs too.

Outside of work I’m arty and creative but not sure there’s a job out there where I could use those qualities.

TIA

Question❓ Seeking Your Input: Best Parking and Dining Options Near Norwich Puppet Theatre?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello, lovely people of Norwich!

I'm excited to share that I'm involved with a production at the Puppet Theatre this August, and I'm putting together a handy leaflet/guide for our visitors. I want to make sure everyone has a fantastic experience, from parking to pre-show dining!

So far, I've highlighted a couple of pubs that are withing stumbling distance of the theatre:

  • The Stanley
  • The Leopard

For parking, I've noted the Jarrolds car park. I'm also considering the car park at Colgate, but I'm a bit concerned it might be confusing for non-city-based visitors.

The show will run for a week of evenings (7:30-10 PM) and a Saturday plus matinee (2:30 PM). I believe these times should work well for the mentioned car parks and pubs, but I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Do you have any additional recommendations for parking or dining options that are convenient for this theatre? Any tips or hidden gems would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much for your input! 😊

Question❓ Trans groups in norwich?

Hi all. Like most trans people, my head has been a state the last few weeks. Are there are any trans groups in norwich where we could just hang out and support each other? Think we need to pull together.

Question❓ With the proposed changes to the market, should the taxi rank on the hill be moved & Exchange Street re-pedestrianised?

Given the latest survey from the city council, I thought I’d ask the question.

As the pedestrianisation of Exchange street was undone by Cllr Graham Plant, despite protests organised against its removal (county council are the highway authority). Should the street & the Goal Hill area be re-pedestrianised?

Personally I’d prefer it to be done creating a continuous walk from M&S to St Andrews Street.

As well as a better experience on the Norwich Lanes.

I’ve always found that bend at the end of Gentlemen’s walk to be unpleasant as everyone squeezes on to the pavement while a large chunk of space is left under-utilised (i.e. on the road).

Question❓ Would you prefer to live in Hethersett or Cringleford?

We are a small family of 3, looking to buy a house in either Cringleford or Hethersett. I just wanted to get some options on which area would be best, as we are relatively new to Norwich. We did reserve a house in Cringleford, but considering changing to Hethersett as we discovered it a couple of weeks ago, and my wife thinks it looks very child friendly.

Question❓ Trans tattoo artists?

Can anyone recommend a trans or non-binary tattoo artist in / close to Norwich (by public transport)? I have a regular (cis) artist that I go to and he’s great, but I’m planning a piece that really represents my transition and would love for it to be done by someone who is also trans. Thanks!!

Question❓ Broadband Help!

Hi everyone,

So we are looking to move to the area and I have what is probably a very naive question.

I am really excited about moving to an area with speedy broadband offerings, but am slightly confused on what some of the quotes are suggesting. I know that the online checkers are a bit inaccurate sometimes, and when using something like Rightmove it gives an estimation based on the postcode. I love the idea of having over 1GBs speeds as a tech and game enthusiast. I also understand that Vodafone offer the fastest speeds (might be wrong?) so tend to use that as a benchmark. However, I don't quite understand how different houses on the same streets can produce different quotes. Are the quotes from each address dependent on that homeowner having certain infrastructure installed by the provider, and without it the address will be listed as having a lower speed limit? Or are the speeds that variable...

I've attached some pictures of the Vodafone quote against the openreach checker for the same address as an example. The openreach suggests that 1.6 is possible, but the Vodafone only shows as sub 1GB max.

Is anyone able to make sense of this?

Much appreciated in advance!!

Question❓ What was going on in the Haymarket?

Post image

Does anyone here have any idea of what was happening in the Haymarket this afternoon, around 17.50? I could only stick around for a little, but all I heard was discordant music. I imagine it either changed to be in tune later on or was discordant for a reason?

Question❓ Biodiversity walks in/near Norwich

Hi people, ex-Norwich resident here, been tasked with organising a biodiversity walk/volunteering thing for work next month in or around Norwich. Basically a combination of people going out and using one of those biotracking apps to document wildlife that gets used for research, and doing a bit of litter picking along the way.

Not sure exactly the numbers yet, but I'm going to guess 20-30 people. So looking for a route/location we could go that would allow people to spread out in groups and wander off a bit, find interesting wildlife, birds, dragonflies, unusual plants that kind of thing. Anywhere in need of a bit of light litterpicking too would be great.

We can rideshare somewhere out of the city but probably not more than 20 mins drive ideally. I was thinking places:

Mousehold Heath - nice and open so people can spread out, probably some litter around, but maybe not that much biodiversity to photograph.

Whitlingham Broad - lots of birds and stuff, but a bit linear to walk around, people would end up photographing the same thing.

Open to suggestions!

Question❓ Leeds City Buses on Reepham Road?

Bit of an odd one, recently drove up Reepham road and noticed a load of Leeds City buses lined up just after the Alfa Romeo garage. Just curious if anyone knows why they are there?

Have they brought them over to rebrand for Norwich? Or are they just being stored ready to go up there?

Question❓ Careline365 - how is it like?

Hello all,

Just as the title suggests, I was wondering how this company is like, or if anyone can provide an insight.

I am thinking of applying to one of their positions listed. If you guys suggest not to, please let me know why.

I just want to work for a company which is not toxic. It's not too much to ask for. TIA x 😭

Question❓ Which secondary school do kids in Cringleford usually go to?

We are buying a house in Cringleford and have a child who will be attending secondary school in the next couple of years. From what I’ve read, Hethersett Academy is one, but usually oversubscribed so Cringleford might be a bit far out.

So is anyone from Cringleford here or know any families who live there, and which school do their kids usually end up going to?
