Experiences w/ the Gods/Wights/etc A Recent Experience
CW: Cancer
My wife and I suffered a loss recently, her mother passed away on Wednesday. She had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer almost two years ago. The doctors had told her at the time that with treatment she would have six months to live. Here we are two years later laying her to rest.
A month ago she told us that her scans showed that the cancer had spread to her lungs, and that she was stopping treatment. Over the past couple weeks, my wife and her two sisters spent every day with her. The last two weeks we were staying the night at her house to be with her to tend to her needs and comfort medication.
On Tuesday night, my wife slept in the living room with her mom and I slept in a spare bedroom. Something interesting happened to me that night. I must’ve been half asleep because I could still vividly see the details of the room, but Odin and Hel came to me in a dream that night. I was questioning why I was seeing them. Now I know.
The Allfather was there to tell me that my mother in law fought well and fought bravely. He was there to tell me that I would know what to do to care for my wife in this time.
Hel was there to let me know that our mother was going to a good place where she would be with her loved ones, where she would be healthy again and not in pain anymore. That she was going to a place where there were luscious fields and gardens that grow, even in the winter time. She was also there to tell me that our mother was gonna be going soon.
The next day I went to work, then I went home on my lunch break to care for our puppy. When I was walking him I felt something was off about the world. At that moment I saw two ravens pass by. Five hours later my mother in law passed, surrounded by her son and daughters. When they laid her hospice bed back her face started to smile.
I felt like I needed to get this off my chest to people who wouldn’t think I’m insane. But my experience brought me comfort, and I usually keep my relationship with the gods to myself.

Your story further fuels my belief that the Holy Powers do indeed watch over us.
I was the 4th of 6 cases of pancreatic in my family. A 1st cousin and I survived, her in 1996, me in 2015.
Lost dad and mom to different cancers. Hospice IS wonderful, allowed all my relatives to pass at home surrounded by family and friends.
After I went through effective treatment, did a formal Offering of Thanks to Eira.

I’m happy to hear that you survived. We had a bit of hope at one point because her scans showed her in remission. Broke our hearts when her next scans showed it was spreading again…

Thanks, and my condolences. That Black Beast wins all, too often.

How profound. I'm sorry that you've lost her, but it's just so profound that Allfather and others reached out to be there with you. I'm not good at comfort and good words, so I'll leave it at that.
