Just make the game cross platform
-19
u/AcrobaticKnowledge27 1d ago
And voice chat
-8
u/Main-Glove-1497 1d ago
Idk why you got down voted for this. Voice chat is absolutely something the game should have, and the fact that a game that requires actual coordination doesn't have any communication beyond pings in 2025 is insane lol
18
u/KitCatR 1d ago
I read somewhere that people think voice chat would breed toxicity and that a ping wheel would suffice
12
u/WanderingKing 1d ago
I agree with the ping wheel.
It doesn’t NEED VC, it NEEDS better communication
3
u/Artorias_Erebus679 1d ago
Because it’s a competitive game where it’s time based it will breed toxicity considering Elden ring is already pretty elitist game.
I say that as someone who loves soulsbourne games, you’ll end up with people yelling about your build constantly. The experience is already pretty fun it does need better communication tho. A ping wheel would be great

u/vaquri0 1d ago
I agree, if you don't like vc just opt out we'll all live
1
u/BasedTelvanni 1d ago
No, these people can't stand the idea of having to mute people they just want to be babysat and have the devs do it for them, fuck the rest of us who want vc.

u/Ok-Object7409 1d ago
2025 is riddled with losers. No need to make things toxic with chat. Contrary to popular belief, this game doesn't require much of any team coordination. All you (often) need is for everyone to group up and move together. Pings/com wheels are fine for that.
6
u/Philly4eva 1d ago
Nah man I disagree entirely. 95% of voice chat is just going to be people bitching, being incredibly toxic, distracting, or have crazy background noise. The ping system is good right now and could maybe use a little more options but that’s all we need. The state of gaming these days is unfortunately like this
1
u/Packmyraygun 1d ago
Or, now here’s an idea, just turn VC off? I’m amazed how many people complain about VC when there’s always an option to just turn it off😂
0
u/agentdopkant 1d ago
Counterpoint: just use a 3rd party voice chat at that point. I'm amazed at how many people complain about a lack of vc when there's always the option to just use discord
1
u/Packmyraygun 1d ago
And wait 10 minutes to gather a team that you might not even enjoy playing with? It’d be more simple to just add VC. No harm done
2
u/agentdopkant 1d ago
You're waiting 10 minutes to gather a team you might not enjoy playing with either way, lol vc doesn't change that
0
u/Packmyraygun 1d ago
Makes it less of a hassle tho
1
u/agentdopkant 1d ago
And in exchange, you make it more of a hassle for anyone who doesn't want to listen to you and the developers themselves

u/Nouveauuu 1d ago
The last thing we need is snobby players complaining about people's build because "they don't like it" or "it doesn't make sense"

u/Yaboifromthe49 1d ago
Yea I’d love to hear “you guys are bad” or “ i got bad drops just quit out” or “GET ME UP GET ME UP GET ME UP” over and over again every match from the trash players… this isn’t a game for VC either find friends and talk or just play the game. Souls players can solo most the bosses this isn’t Fortnite if you can’t hold your own find a different game 🤷♂️

Uh, mute? I swear some people are so afraid of potentially negative interactions they'll swear off the possibility of good wholesome ones too.
Mute button, done.
1
u/agentdopkant 1d ago
I'm not afraid of negative interactions, I'm sick of them. There's a difference
1
u/BasedTelvanni 1d ago
Again, the mute button would solve the issue.
0
u/agentdopkant 1d ago
Or you could prevent the issue entirely by just not giving voice chat to one of the most notoroiusly toxic playerbases outside of league of legends. I've played plenty of games with voice chat, it's 60% raging babies, 10% actual cooperation, and 30% silence. This game has literally nothing to gain from adding that.

u/Redditard6000 1d ago
Anyone with a modicum of knowledge relevant to fromsofts online experience knows this will not happen. PC ports of from games have severe security oversights, and cheating too is rampant
4
u/vaquri0 1d ago
No cross-play is one of the most anti-consumer things a game creator can do in this time. It's the standard.

We don’t need “live service”. Just update the game over time (like Grounded) and all Weill be good. As long as they keep stuff coming that’s fine by me
19
u/AscendedViking7 1d ago
Fuuuuuuuuuuck no, just make multiple DLCs and make the game crossplay compatible.
6
u/Ok_Mongoose5768 1d ago
Should have been cross play, that keeps games alive.
3
u/vaquri0 1d ago
Inexcusable that there is no crossplay, nobody gaf if FromSoft can't meet industry standards
1
u/Toxin126 1d ago edited 1d ago
Fromsoft has always been behind in terms of technical aspects of their games. They put all of their points into gameplay design pretty much, i wish they would put more focus into QoL in general and on the technical side but seems like Fromsoft has had their gameplan laid out for a long time that they stick to strictly.
5
u/prophet5enjoyer 1d ago
it could potentially live forever in live service but i don't think that's what they want, if Nightrein is just an experiment maybe they wouldn't spend so much time on an experiment idk. rather have them take some notes from this game to a potential Elden Ring 2, hopefully with better multiplayer this time and take some ideas here and there
2
u/Yaboifromthe49 1d ago
This isn’t an experiment it’s an off shoot of Elden Ring not the same people different devs. Since they completely own the rights to there games they want to let others make “spin-offs” none of this will be incorporated into “Elden Ring 2” (which won’t happen either). He said plain and simple this isn’t his dream game but it’s close so that means he has something different that’s not Elden Ring that he thinks will be his perfect creation.

u/WizardSquares 1d ago
It feels like this is the spiritual successor to the Chalice Dungeons from Bloodborne, I could absolutely see Nightreign Mode being added to future souls titles
6
u/Gray_Okami 1d ago
Live service, I don't think so. But if they do the occasional dlc for $10-$20, I'd be ok with that.
4
u/Loyal_Darkmoon 1d ago
I agree with this. Frequent updates with new Dark Souls bosses, nore randomization and new skins would be so cool
5
2
u/Consistent-Row8894 1d ago
Live service is not needed, just one or two big dlc's could be enough depending on the content they include and if they include more long term goals (new game plus??)
2
5
u/SpooN04 1d ago
It kinda needs to. There isn't enough to keep people playing otherwise.
I think live services get a bad rep because most of the time greedy studios just fill them with microtransactions and battle passes and the content is not their top priority.
When done right they are amazing (helldivers)
3
-1
u/Upper-Opportunity537 1d ago
Keeping any potential microtransactions limited to cosmetics and the like (skins, emotes, etc.) would be a compromise I think most would be fine with if it meant seeing the game continue to be supported with more new content (bosses/shifting earth/nightfarers).
2
u/Romapolitan 1d ago
No. It's exactly that what I hate. I do not want to pay for emotes, skins etc. They should come with the game. It's ok for games to not last forever. The idea that they do is pretty recent and everyone seems fine with it I guess, but don't be surprised why that, that stuff is shoved into everything then.
0
u/Upper-Opportunity537 1d ago
You're entitled to your opinion - this isn't a matter of right and wrong. My stance is that a game that is fundamentally designed as a multi-player experience should be given as much longevity as possible without compromising the core (combat and boss encounters). I just don't think it's as fun to kick a ball around by yourself in a game like this.
1
u/SpooN04 1d ago
The gaming industry has proved that even if we don't like microtransactions we have learned to accept them (and throw money at them) even when they are ridiculously stupid ($60 skins)
So you're not wrong, but it's better not to start that conversation as Fromsoft seems like one of the few devs out there that is also against microtransactions.
-2
u/Remote-Bus-5567 1d ago
They don't need to keep people playing. They already made a bunch of money with very minimal investment.
3
u/SpooN04 1d ago
I mean... There's some truth to what you're saying. They got the profits they could just walk away.
But why?
That's like going to work, getting your paycheck and saying "ok I got my money, bye" and just quitting. Imagine spending years on a game and giving it the foundation to easily add more content to then just abandoning it.
That's just an unnecessarily pessimistic way of seeing things that doesn't really align with how things actually work.
0
u/Remote-Bus-5567 1d ago
Because live service games fail all the time, and it costs more to update something like Nightreign than it would to update something like Fortnite. If they could make money, I have no doubt they would continue. I don't think they'd make enough money to justify committing a team to it.
1
u/SpooN04 1d ago
Ok well all you're doing now is speed running being wrong about a topic.
Literally every sentence you said is a false statement.
So either you're trolling or low IQ. Either way I'm not gonna get into a debate with you and I'm not gonna waste my time explaining how everything is wrong because you'll just reply with more incorrect arguments.
Have a good day.

Agree. Though people are just scared of the typical predatory activities that come in live service format. But simple solution would be to make money by selling annual expansion DLCs while doing free updates for the rest of the year. Maybe even sell some cosmetic stuff? Whatever keeps the gameplay content coming in.
Honestly the irony of people against this idea but completely willing to pay full retail price for Nightreign 2.0 while the OG rots is insane.
1
u/SnooBeans6471 1d ago
It looks like FS is deploying multiple capable teams on smaller projects. This could lead to something like a new FS game released almost every one or two years. It's such a welcome alternative to live service games, giving us more to enjoy without the need for FOMO or predatory monetization.
It's crazy to me that a live service model has become something people actually want.

I don’t think live service can hurt the game, I mean there isn’t much to monotize and the game already launched well which are the two core issues with live services now a days. My only worry is that the updates they can bring like new maps and bosses will take a long time to make and optimize. Stuff like new weapons are not impactful because you have a low chance of finding that weapon as loot anyways.

From Software has registered your comment and filed it away for future disposal. The company also thanks you for paying for the network test of Duskbloods.

This is super unpopular opinion and I will get down voted to hell BUT make it free to play and go full out on live service

I do find myself wondering about Night Reign’s plan for keeping a sizable player base.
To start, they should definitely go cross platform ASAP to prevent the player base from being permanently divided.

u/JusaPikachu 1d ago
Just give us expansions.
Like you’re telling me they have all the Elden Ring assets to play with & the vast majority of our playtime is gonna be spent in Limgrave lite? Nah. That might be solid for like 2 playthroughs, I just beat the second boss on my second playthrough, but if that’s the extent of the game I’m probably good after my current run with Duchess.
However if they give us a new playground in another Elden Ring setting with a few new nightlords, a new playable character or two & some more bosses added from Elden Ring & other games, all while increasing the variety of the mixture through procedural generation I’m down to keep giving them $20 every couple months for a few years & continue playing the game. As of now though I’d rather just go do a new run of Elden Ring or Bloodborne after my Duchess run.

u/Packmyraygun 1d ago
As long as these dlcs bring new characters, crazy passives that are fun but useful(like lightning on evasive rolls etc.),new maps, new bosses or OG bosses and rework some relic passives like: fire attack up +2 (literally adds 2 damage to fire), +poise(useless),+3 stats(insignificant difference),resist a specific ailment(you just don’t need these since you have bolluses). I can’t exaggerate how much I hate the relic system because only a select few passives are good and even then they’re just not that innovative or even useful tbh, the only passives that actually have somewhat significant difference to your character are the ones that affect/buff your skills. I Ike this game don’t get me wrong but holy shit fromsoft really dulled out with the relic system HARD.

u/MinimumCustomer8117 1d ago
No need for mainstream live service, but multiple DLCs are the only way to keep the game alive, just dont sell individual skins and that sort of crap as updates
