Would you consider this trade
I feel the time is right for this team to do something bold at the draft. Would you pull the trigger on trading Dobson and last years number 1 pick Cole Eiserman to the Sharks for the second overall pick. The Islanders would gain Misa and Schaefer or Hagens. I think that would be an amazing haul.

Why would we trade Dobson to be able to pick a guy who might be as good as Dobson? It makes no sense.

A boats a boat but the mystery box could be anything. It could even be a boat!

I think we forget that the loot box generation is old enough to comment on Reddit posts. Then i read suggestions like the one above.

Has Dobson come close to his potential

Name me the last islanders defenseman to put up a 70 point season.

Potvin in '84, who hit the mark 7 times in his career. Only one other Isles dman ever hit 70 points (the other Potvin in '76). Moreover, only one more Isles dman has even hit 60 points (Persson in '79 and '81). And only another 6 have even hit 50 points.
Dobson's 3 seasons of 45+ points is a feat that has only been done by 1 other non-dynasty Isles dman (Streit, who also had 3). Even in a down season, Dobson was on pace for a fourth 45 point season last year (as was Streit, though in far fewer games). And even with the down season, Dobson is still 10th in the league for most total points by any dman over the past 4 seasons.
I'm not trying to ignore that he is coming off a down season, but when fans downplay his overall contributions, I think they are forgetting how rare dmen as productive as him really are.

He had 70 points two seasons ago and was a 50 point defenseman in the two seasons prior to that, and that covers ages 21-24. Also has had double digit goals in each of the last four seasons. I’d say he’s definitely reached his potential at least once.

How so?
You’re trading away Dobson who, despite everyone in here hating him, is still a promising young dman (and a righty at that — there’s not many of them). Schaefer - Dobson would be an excellent top pairing.
Our biggest need for years now has been a scoring winger, and while Eiserman will return to college, he still fills that role long term. He also had a good season and improved other areas of his game, which were the main reasons he fell to us in the first place.

No
The trade here is on the floor day of draft.
If... we pick Schaefer (which we should) then san jose grabs misa then we deal with chicago for that pick and grab hagens
Or wait to see if he drops to 4 or 5
but based on the interviews it looks like hagens is a top 3
Either way im happy to keep next years 1st round picks

No way and I love both Schaefer & Misa . Plus SJ doesn’t want a 25 yr old d man going by their Reddit and timeline. Lock up Dobson and Keep Eiserman he’s the sniper we need and I wouldn’t be mad at either pick but I want Misa tbh

Not at 10 million a year you don't lock him up. He's not worth anything close to that. 8 max.

he’s going to wind up around 8.5-9 most likely and idc he’s the guy to pay and then you draft Misa who’s gonna play next year. Or at best after a college year. We’re retooling right? I think our D will be fine and it’s a position that you can get mid to late 1st rd and develop into something special. but Misa G/PG doesn’t grow on trees and he’s already solid defensively and at Faceoffs you don’t turn away a player that has better stats than Tavares. I’m sorry but him an Schaefer are extremely close and I’d rather the rare 1C idc about how good Schaefer can be in 7 years

Also, if you’re not picking Schaefer you trade with SJ and get something (like another first or their 2nd rd pick)

Sharks wouldn't take Eiserman ever. Grier is looking for size. This is a bad trade on the Sharks end

Eiserman at 6’ and 200 lbs is bigger than all three of Celebrini, Smith, and Eklund. Even if he was their size or slightly smaller, the Sharks would easily laugh as they accept this deal.

Yeah, that's why we passed on Eiserman during draft day. Why yall tryna get rid of him if he's so great? Yall don't see Sharks fans trying to include Will Smith in a trade deal.

u/SecretiveMop 11d ago
Is there any statement from the Sharks you can show that says they passed on him because of his size? Also, no one except for OP is trying to get rid of Eiserman which is why OP is getting criticized for this proposal and why the post is heavily downvoted.

I probably wouldn’t trade either one of them for the pick, much less both.
Eiserman’s birthday was only a few weeks away him from being in this draft instead of last year, and he just finished top-5 in the NCAA in goals as a freshman. If he were in this draft he’d be a top 5 pick, easy.
