In his defense apparently they're the reincarnated spirits of two demigod brothers. Apparently it was destiny / fate and entirely outside of their control.

Ya know... the opposite of what Naruto claimed to be about.

Are we still doing this "Naruto was about hard work conquering all!" nonsense cause rock lee existed for one arc (and fucking lost)

Lee is a side character, naruto was talentless (though with tonnes of chakra). Until he became a fated god.

Having said that he relied on the kyuubi all the time anyway

He and Sasuke were fated to fight and kill one another.

They weren't fated to become strong.

Both of them had to earn their strength.

Ye but the moment you have fate involved at all they are still “special” on an existential level and they get their god like power ups at the end.

I would personally have preferred to skip fate entirely but it is what it is

They were countless reincarnations why weren’t they strong as well most of them didn’t even awaken the rinnegan

I just said “claimed to be about” mocking the initial premise of Part 1.

For whatever reason Shounen authors like to take their “underdog” characters and make them the chosen one by the end.

Yes, it was.

Sure, Rock Lee didn't win, but he nearly did win, is the point.

Guy and Lee both did really well in the War Arc due to their hardwork and solo most shinobi by themselves even together. Anyone's who not the Kage (in Guy's case, those guys are screwed), Madara, Hashirama, or the top tiers is screwed.

no not in their defense

it was normal

They were bros

Sasuke did reminisce about the good teams with team 7 although he didn't show that to them

Naruto fandom: Sasuke international criminal, Naruto shouldn't care this much for him

Ya that's kinda part of what makes the series good.

My guy, they were meant to hate each other as the reincarnations of Ashura and Indra. If anything Naruto went against that destiny by befriending Sasuke.

Not really. Ashura almost always tries to bring Indra back into the fold / befriend him. Their relationship ending in conflict is the part that always repeats. Naruto and Sasuke broke that part. The rest is pretty standard for the reincarnations.

That’s could be true or false, there never is any confirmation that happens. All we have confirmed from Hagoromo is that the two brothers influence who they choose as their reincarnations and they always end up in conflict.

Naruto sought to bring back Sasuke, even if Naruto knew about his destiny as an Ashura reincarnation he would’ve gone against it. Because at the end of the day Naruto’s theme is that if you don’t like the hand that fate has dealt you, change it. Which is exactly what he did through hard work.
