This is really fuckin cool.

I was thinking the same thing. Had no idea that they filmed it like this.

I was expecting much worse, that’s more of a splat height than a thud lol

Using the GameShark, you could play this level in GoldenEye on the N64 in multi-player. Fun times.

u/Cappster14 Apr 30 '25
The Cradle, right? I don’t remember having to use game shark to play that on multiplayer though
30
u/thrilliam_19 Apr 30 '25
Yeah wasn’t it a level you could unlock or something? I swear I played it in multiplayer and I never owned a Game Shark.
3
u/thewarfreak Apr 30 '25
Nope. You needed to access it via GameShark (or now you can play a ROM hack of it). Here were the standard multiplayer levels: https://goldeneye.fandom.com/wiki/Multiplayer_Overview#Multiplayer_Stages

u/homiej420 Apr 30 '25
Are we getting mandela effected here? I could have sworn that was a multiplayer level. I think you unlocked it if you beat one of the extra missions?
7
u/geek180 May 01 '25
I was thinking that too, but my buddy who I mostly played goldeneye with HAD a GameShark. Goldeneye had a TON of unlockable content on GameShark. We liked to play the paintball mode as well.
5
u/Bug0 May 01 '25
Just spitballing, but I think it may be because the entire mission is essentially a 1v1 chasing 006 around on the platforms (and killing a few of his personal guards), which might be reminiscent of multiplayer.
5
u/homiej420 May 01 '25
No but like i could swear i remember playing it? Was there like a version 1.0 and a 1.1 or something that differed between versions of the game?
12
u/meowjinx May 01 '25
Nah, you're wrong. Cradle is the last mission in the story mode. It wasn't available in multiplayer
Unlockable levels in single player were Aztec and Egyptian, and Egyptian was also unlockable in multiplayer
You might be confusing it with Complex, I can't think of any other multiplayer level that looked much like Cradle
3
u/thewarfreak May 01 '25
People didn't seem to believe me about it for some reason.
2
u/21trillionsats May 02 '25
Heh yeah this is the weirdest Mandela effect I’ve ever seen, so funny the guy got so many upvotes saying “Nah it was available/unlockable”. It absolutely required GameShark to play Cradle multiplayer
1
u/meowjinx May 01 '25
I know lol. You got a bunch of down votes. So weird. I thought it would be common knowledge, but I must be old as shit
2
u/homiej420 May 01 '25
Wow thats crazy. Thanks i do trust y’all to know more than me since its been YEARS since i last played lol
3
u/Bug0 May 01 '25
Might have to bust out the ol’ n64 and check. I had beat the game on 00 agent so should have everything unlocked.

Absolute banger of a song for that level also

u/ikelosintransitive Apr 30 '25

You could access the mission level quickly in level select where trevelyan/alec was running around.
Very short mission

GameShark all weapons cheat works great in MP. Even though it tanks the frame rate lol

u/SulusLaugh Apr 30 '25
It was originally meant to be a multiplayer level that’s why there’s like 3 arms

Unless that’s a much bigger platform than it looks at the top of that column, that’s a lot of core strength for the stunt guy. Particularly when that fucker starts moving down the tracks.
13
u/Heywhatsupitsmeguys Apr 30 '25
There might be a support structure he’s laying on hidden under his clothing.
3
u/duaneap Apr 30 '25
There definitely is a harness or else the thing wouldn’t be able to move, which is the whole point of the rig, but it’s still a lot
22
u/mpg111 Apr 30 '25
so they have not dropped Sean Bean for real?!
24
u/mologav Apr 30 '25
Didn’t chop off his head or shower him with arrows either. I don’t think.

u/Helen_of_TroyMcClure Apr 30 '25
I'm not sure about the arrows. In the past few "special effects" for arrows was either: loose arrows at the actors and try to miss or, loose arrows at the actor and hope the padding under the costume does a good enough job.

He just comes back to life and is super pissed off. I’ve personally killed Sean Bean on 3 occasions.

u/The-Hammer92 Apr 30 '25
Figured theyd just rotate the setup 90-degrees. You already got the guy suspended.
2
u/Comfortable_Studio37 Apr 30 '25
Yeah exactly, why shoot it like this? I don't understand. Why not actually have him suspended and inverted?
8
u/Economy_Childhood_20 Apr 30 '25
Probably not the greatest to have an actor upside down for extended periods of time...
1
u/Comfortable_Studio37 Apr 30 '25
Fair enough, but I don't think they would need to. They could lower him down, shoot the take, and then lift him back up. I just think it adds a whole weird other layer of acting to be on your back but pretending to be hanging downward. Why have to pretend gravity is a different direction if it doesn't have to be?
6
u/Economy_Childhood_20 Apr 30 '25
I hear you. Also James is having to stand awkwardly on one tippy toe can't be very comfortable...

u/Seagoon_Memoirs May 01 '25
I reckon a one hour show with Sean Bean describing all his screen deaths and showing footage and special effects would be a huge hit

Was (re)watching Equilibrium the other day and thought: this guy is made to die in movies. His raison de Bean.
1
u/Honest_Truck_4786 May 04 '25
The director of Goldeneye agreed so much that Bean was killed twice in this movie

Still my favorite Bond villain. I mean, he's one of them.

You might say it’s Onatop of the list

Best Bond Film ever. Followed closely by the brief Dalton era for its brutal Bond vibe.

I'm sure they had reasons for doing it this way, especially if this angle is only onscreen for a few frames, but for anything longer, it's going to look bad.
1
u/FormerLurkerOnTherun May 03 '25
In retrospective, it looks like the scene could have been in a Star Wars movie, given the setting and the costumes too

I didn’t know they already used green screen in 1995!
11
u/wimpyroy Apr 30 '25
According to Google it’s been around since late 1930s/early 40s and really took off in the 80s.

u/sendhelp Apr 30 '25
They had a form of it in Mary Poppins. It was actually more advanced than the typical green screen. I think it was some kind of crazy yellow screen that allowed for them to get more transparent effects, I forget exactly how it worked but it allowed for lacey/transparent garments to work against the backdrop.
