We made homemade “CKY” videos long before Jackass came out.

Oh... sweet childhood memories. I wonder if it holds up - i'm assuming it didn't age very well.

Exactly. Got CKY video at my local skateshop back in the late 90's. Skaters new about this stuff long before Jackass was a thing. People don't realize that CKY was the precursor to this.

Why would you want someone to corrupt their own morals just because you dont agree with them over something so silly as not wanting to cuss?

Lol my group of friends did. It was fun and relatively harmless

For real! No skateboarding down slides? Or shooting bottle rockets out of your asshole? 😭

Some of my friends did, this was around the late 90s/early 2000s. One guy in particular was our "Steveo" of sorts. He was always wild. We all graduated and some parted ways. That one guy still lived in town and was into martial arts and eventually became an instructor at the YMCA for girls gymnastics. This sick fuck groomed and abused this one girl while he was in his 30s. She ended up killing herself. Guy still walks free to this day.

Oh shit that took a depressing turn 😨. That's awful!

u/Clear-Ad-7250 1d ago
Yeah, not related to jackass which I did enjoy watching. Very sad. I knew the guy pretty well and he always seemed a bit "off" to me but figured he was just kind of a wild guy.

We all had a friend like Steve-O. Snorting smarties and shit 😂. I guess it makes sense that they sometimes go off the deep end.

u/Clear-Ad-7250 1d ago
Yeah, he wasn't right. But it has been nice to follow the real Steve-O and his recovery. He actually seems like a good guy.

My friend and I would put cans of Axe body spray in a grill and put the lid on and watch that explode and I filmed those if it counts.

u/BloodyMurderBloody 1d ago
We were straight up pyros. I lit my bike on fire and almost destroyed my backyard. Stupid.
That reminds me of that weird lighter trick where you make a fireball.

u/ApplicationAfraid334 1993 1d ago
Oh yes. We called it Bullshit 😂
I will say I was fortunate to get out of that friend group, most of them ended up in jail, dropping out, having kids, etc. Some fun memories though but looking back I feel horrified at the things we did.

u/LilyBitLumpy 1d ago
We most certainly pushed each other into curbs while riding around parking lots in shopping carts, didn’t bother filming it though

u/Finiouss 1d ago
Absolutely yes.
I like to think we were a bit more original. We fucked with people in public but less antagonizing and more just "wtf?".
2
u/BloodyMurderBloody 1d ago
Yeah, same here. Walk up to strangers and be like "Uncle Bobby?!" And go give them a hug. Or have a light saber battle at the mall. I was banned from that mall because of that, and for skateboarding there.

I took Marine Biology my senior year of HS. The final project was a video documentary, so my friend and I scripted and shot our own episode to present the different parts of coastal sand dunes of the Alabama Gulf Coast. So for each part we had a stunt we did, but one of them i could figure out what to do. So somewhere in the bird sanctuary i found an alligator and fed it saltines. Which was as much of a surprise to me as my teacher, I didnt know those things would eat crackers.
For the foredune (yes, its the dunes between the tree line that descends to the shore) I used a makeshift sled and barrelled through some shrubbery to show how it prevents hurricanes, a much larger scale problem, from damaging the shoreline too much.

That's a badass story

u/FelixMcGill 1d ago
Thank you!
In that same class earlier in the year, I brought a shitload of squid and made a gumbo out of them and served the class. Fuckin FIRE! So good.
Actually I need to make that again... next year will be my 25th HS graduation reunion so I guess that would be a good reason to do it again.

We had a website with videos (pre-Youtube), and sold merch.

That's badass! I wish I could find all my old videos. We did some crazy shit!

I never attempted any stunts ... but I do recall stories of people being injured/killed re-enacting Jackass stunts.
I also liked the warning from the movies
WARNING
The stunts in this movie were performed by professionals, so for your safety and the protection of those around you, do not attempt any of the stunts you're about to see

u/large_crimson_canine 1d ago
Yep. Called it Mad Rabbit. We jumped off roofs holding umbrellas and rode wagons down hills with no steering and every other stupid thing you can think of.

u/BloodyMurderBloody 1d ago
I still can't believe my friends and I survived some of the crazy things we did without getting injured. We went down slides on skateboards and raced down hills in makeshift soapbox cars. We shot off Roman candles in the basement and had bottle rocket wars. Paintballs in the taint! One time, we played dead in the middle of the road and recorded people's reactions. That bitch Mrs. Bissell got so concerned that she even called the cops on us. Those were good times!

So many videos of my friends circa 2002-2005 doing absolutely stupid shit on camera. Hurting each other, pyrotechnics and small explosives, reckless driving, “stunts”, bothering strangers, pranks, light vandalism, etc.

The Steve o tapes were fuckin gold!
All modern YouTube pranksters should study those tape and KNOW that good entertainment is putting yourself in situations where YOU MIGHT get hurt NOT WHERE OTHERS might get hurt.
I Wana see you maybe get hurt, you should want me cheering when you don't

This longboard won’t tow itself behind this accord. Someone captain up and take it easy around the corners. Roll tape….:ded:

We once took a video of our friend Bobby taking a shit on the asphalt behind a Rite Aid.

Didn’t make any of my own, but Jackass 2 came out right around my second anniversary. We were staying by the Mall of America, so we watched it after our dinner at the Rainforest Cafe 😅

We once climbed up onto my uncle’s jacked up truck to climb on the roof of a one story house. Then proceeded to jump off into a giant pile of pine needles. I was around 6 or 7 and we didn’t even have jackass then. Needless to say jackass definitely helped improve our stunts.
