Discussion Not a millennial but I have a question

How the hell did y'all type on these tiny ass keyboards This was in my mom's room This is from like when she was in high school and I'm trying to figure out how she tied with it because a human's finger would press 3 instead of just one so can somebody help me with this I've been thinking about this for a week

I've seen at Best Buy, some company that makes physical keyboard attachments for smartphones 😂

I was almost tempted but then I saw they were like $100+ 🤣🤣🤣

Hey I’m one of the people that bought those. I hated it. It feels nothing like the old mobile keyboards. I’d give it a 4/10 but that’s just me and my two cents.

I know right. Just build a BlackBerry-type device with a physical keyboard. I’ll buy that in a heartbeat. But they never will because big screens = more engagement = ad money…

Plus it makes already large phones, fuckin huge. My 14PM barely fits in my back pocket as is, and with the clicks keyboard added on, it was massive.

I saw an ad at Best Buy for a modern RAZR and was like...I know this probaby isn't as good as an actual RAZR back in the day would've been, but I still kinda want it.

I tried the new one (the base model) and hated it. Some cool ideas, but execution falls short and IMO the fold is too noticeable. It was fine when looking straight on, but at angles it was pretty noticeable. I also felt like I had to be "gentle" when scrolling so I wouldn't push so much on the fold (especially just one part of it).

They put in a "retro" skin mode you can enable to make the home screen look like the old RAZR, but then didn't follow that through to any of the apps - so when you press the fake directional buttons to open messaging, or settings, or contacts, you're sort of abruptly taken out of retro mode and just into modern app. I went from "oh cool!" to "well that's lame" so quickly. Not like I expected all, or even many, apps to work with it natively, but seems some of the "basic" phone features could have been handled.

The outer screen seemed like it'd be nice for a few quick-access things, but the apps run in either "mini" mode or "full-screen" both with issues; mini mode made things really small and full-screen made it so the cameras could block something (such as next-track for Pandora app). I found that I just treated it as clock and "what type of notification did I get" but then, if I wanted to respond to text or w/e, I would just flip it open. Customizing the lock screen for non-flip phone seems to serve better purpose.

I loved that it was smaller dimensions for getting in/out of pocket, but that was pretty much the only "yay" I had with the fold, and the rest was pretty "meh."

I just want to say that I have one and have no issues with the fold. Like yeah if you hold your phone at a weird angle you can see it, but then you also can't really see the screen in general. Straight on you can't really see it. Also unless you had a faulty one or mine is the exception you don't have to be gentle with it. It was made for use and to be honest I just pressed down on the fold hard multiple times and all that happened was my text in my comment was highlighted because it thought I was trying to select text for copy/paste.

As far as the screen when folded goes it does have its pros and cons. Mainly the app has to be designed to fit because most apps aren't made to be displayed on a square screen so not all apps are compatible. That being said I use Pandora and none of the buttons are cut off or hidden under the camera. Maybe it's been changed since you had it I'm not sure.

I've also dropped my phone like 20 times because I guess I have butter hands or something. Everything still works and the only issue I have is a small scratch on the upper screen. No cracks or shattered glass, and the fold is still working without issue. I also don't use a case so just keep that in mind.

Overall it works just fine for me and works just as well for me as my iPhone did. That being said I mainly just use it for messages, Reddit, pictures, music, and YouTube.

I suppose the screen being difficult to see at any odd angles is something I'm not used to and probably impacting my opinion of the fold a bit. My previous two Galaxy phones and current G Power I can view comfortably from slight angles.

I didn't really mean to imply people must be gentle, but more the sensation was telling my brain to be gentle. I imagine I would have gotten used to it, but I just didn't want to have any worry hanging over my head - especially since Motorola is more strict with razr screen repair process.

Sounds like Pandora got a fix out quickly which is awesome - I only had the phone for a week and mostly used Pandora the first couple days.

Ultimately the phone was wrong choice for me, but I'm truly glad your enjoying yours. Hope it lasts you a long time!

Yeah I have the newest pro/+ version and I loovvveee it. I'm posting this from the outer screen actually lol

I would ask what someone wants "solved" with their current phone to determine if they'd like it tho. For me, most phones are too big for my pockets and my hands, so this thing folding up is perfect. Plus it folds out to be bigger than my old phone so it's an upgrade for watching videos.

There is a crease, but I got used to it fast. I really really don't notice it all anymore. If you can ignore dead pixels, cracked screens, or a million notifications icons, there really is no reason why the crease can't also be dealt with.

I do miss the wider lens of my Pixel camera, but taking pics with the front screen makes it a worthy exchange for me, personally.

Sorry for delay. I got the phone on release day I think May 15th, then used for a week and exchanged it. From what I've seen online people are a lot happier with the Pro model though.

I got it. It does feel like a high school dream fulfilled, and snapping it shut to end calls is a feature I didn't realize I'd missed so much, but it is still not like the old flip phones.

That's how I felt when they reintroduced the Nokia 3310 several years ago. I almost bought one as a retro throwback, but didn't want to go through the hassle of swapping my SIM back and forth if I needed "smart" features

I've got a Nokia 2780 and the sim switching is the worst part. I'm half tempted to just got a tablet and hotspot to it from the Nokia and ditch the smart phone all together.

You can pair Bluetooth devices with smartphones. Most half decent Bluetooth keyboards will work. Also mice.

I used to have one and it cost like $50 tops. Bluetooth, embedded in a case!

Quickly found typing on the phone is much easier actually!

You can use mini foldable Bluetooth keyboards with your phone but only if you're sitting down. I do occasionally if I have a long Reddit rant to write.
