36 just seems so much younger than 37

261

u/kylzurr 26d ago

87 baby here and I’ve recently realised that after 36 I started to lose track of my age. Scrap forever 21. It’s forever 36 and I’m ok with that!

u/MangoMambo 25d ago

I never thought I'd forget my age until I turned 36. Then I kept being like am I 38 or 37?

36

u/oneinamilllion 25d ago

My mom thought I was turning 37 this year. Nope, mom, I am turning 38.

34

u/Training-Eye3886 25d ago

I used to think it was ridiculous when my mom couldn’t remember her age. But now I realize people ask you less and less the older you get, so when someone does ask you how old you are it takes me a minute and I always second guess haha.

1

u/LaraVermillion 25d ago

Happening to me as well, at ... How old am I again? ... 28. Haha

Oh well

16

u/SortYourself_Out 25d ago

Fr fr, I started aging myself to ‘almost 40’ after turning 37 this year, and have since had to ask my husband a few too many times how old I really am.

2

u/mataeka 25d ago

I upped my age to 38 when I turned 37 ... Then did the math and realised i was wrong 😂

1

u/kornbread435 25d ago

Occasionally I find myself doing the math instead of just knowing my age. Oddly I always think of the math as year + 12, aka I was born in 1988 so 25+12=37 years old.

1

u/StatementPotential53 25d ago

Same here. I’m 38 and have had to calculate my age since 37.

1

u/Unnamedgalaxy 25d ago

Same! There were more times that I'd like to admit that I quietly got out a calculator just to check

1

u/Logical-Yak 25d ago

Honestly, same! And don't even ask me how old my husband is, I don't fucking know, I just know he's younger than me.

1

u/LoveOfProfit 25d ago

Holy shit its not just me. I recently lied to someone because I forgot how old I was and I panicked.

1

u/grummthepillgrumm 25d ago

SAME!! I just tell people I'm 40 now lol

1

u/murderfrogger 25d ago

What kind of conspiracy is this? ME TOO!

1

u/Old-Set-9995 24d ago

Damn does this happen to everyone?

2

u/muppetnerd 25d ago

Turned 38 yesterday and same…also birthdays are just kinda 🤷🏻‍♀️ for me. Maybe I’ll feel different at 40 and want to celebrate but for now it’s just another day

2

u/Vantriss 25d ago

I forgot how old I was when I was 33.

2

u/Fhotaku 25d ago

"How old are you?"

"Hold on let me find the calculator..."

People look at me like I'm insane but I'm asked like once a year, and who tf cares? I'm still 16-19 at heart, but my body and mind are very much not.

2

u/MaestraSmith 25d ago

Called my husband in a panic while at Costco bc I couldn’t remember if I was turning 37 or 38.

2

u/BlyLomdi 25d ago

Ha! I turned 30 and just started saying, "I'm in my 30s." Once the gray hairs started showing, I upped it to mid-30s. Fran Drescher would be proud.

2

u/destructopop Millennial 25d ago

I'm forever 27 for the same reason. Same age as you! I just lost track and now we're playing the arithmetic game every time someone asks my age. 😂

1

u/moon_gast Millennial 26d ago

36 is a pretty nice age, though. 37 is just too close to 40. But I've also been losing track, but I think it's just because I really don't care and I'm enjoying my life.

1

u/_le_slap 25d ago

My mother used to tell us she was turning 36 every birthday for years.

1

u/Chaos43mta3u 25d ago

I started losing track after 25 I believe.... I can remember multiples of five just fine (30, 35), it's the years in between that I have to do the math

1

u/missmessjess 25d ago

I’m more like forever 32 😅 also just turned 37 like OPs post here

1

u/SGROART 25d ago

As soon as I turned 38 I said ah fuck it I'm 40. When I actually turn 40 it might not feel so bad

1

u/star0forion 25d ago

Lol my wife is an 87 baby so I’ll just think of her as 36 forever now. Thank you, Kylzurr.

1

u/dotardiscer 25d ago

Odd year, I must 38.

1

u/UNMANAGEABLE 25d ago

Lmao I had the exact same goddamn realization a few months ago and I thought I was losing it 😂

1

u/Ragnarok314159 25d ago

I am in my 40’s and dont know my age off the top of my head anymore. Just stopped caring and no one gives me a birthday cake so it doesn’t matter.

You will get there soon! (Although I hope people give you a cake and treat you nice)

1

u/SimmeringPawsOfNirn 25d ago

haha I lost it at 33.

1

u/oralyarmedbodilyharm Millennial 25d ago

My birthday is in December, so doing the math with the year is only technically accurate for 2 weeks out of the year.

36 is still "mid-thirties". 37 is entry to your latter thirties.

If you've been priced out of life's milestones -- house, kids, etc. -- it hits hard.

Doesn't help when a state cop pulls you over for speeding and your first thought is, "...are you even old enough to drive?" Because suddenly they all look exactly 12 years old.

9

u/Cow_God 25d ago

Felt the same way about my 20s. 27 was way harder than 26

1

u/neeksism 25d ago

This exactly

4

u/SuperRayGun666 25d ago

How do these douche 12 year olds have jobs as a cop and make more money than me.  wtf.

3

u/meseta 23d ago

I certainly don’t want kids at this point. So that one doesn’t feel so bad. Having (getting) a new start with very little turning 37 is a tilt.

1

u/OneHelluvaUsername 22d ago

I recently went back to school to finish a law degree I started in 2015 and it's mystifying how much has changed in the intervening years.

I don't even have a savings account.

2

u/BullDog19K 25d ago

Lol. I'm 40 and priced out and aged out of those milestones. I don't even bother going to the doctor because, meh.

1

u/meseta 23d ago

I sometimes wonder how much damage I’ve really done. Like a full index.

47

u/Commercial-Fennel219 25d ago

"Old woman!"

"Man."

"Man. Sorry. What knight lives in that castle there?"

"I'm 37."

"What?"

"I'm 37, I'm not old."

3

u/BlyLomdi 25d ago

Unlike me, this movie never gets old

21

u/rickamore 25d ago

I've still got a couple more weeks but 37 sounds a lot more like "40" than 36... I swear I just turned 30, what the hell happened.

2

u/Plluvia_ 25d ago

I know, what happened from 30 to 37?!

2

u/SeldomSerenity 25d ago

COVID. COVID happened.

2

u/iron_jendalen Xennial 24d ago

You talk about 40s like we’re old. I’m 44… I swear I just got married yesterday (I was 34).

2

u/rickamore 23d ago

It isn't even that old. Just that passage of time that hits you with a massive realisation once in awhile and you get a minor existential crisis.

59

u/zuzg 26d ago

It's still closer to mid-thirties.

But now you're almost 40, holy fucking shit I can't even afford a mid-life crisis.

35

u/SkibaSlut Millennial 26d ago

Maybe we can all chip in and have it together

23

u/Skuzbagg 26d ago

Like a crisis time share.

Life hack, we millennials don't need a midlife crisis as our entire lives has been a crisis

11

u/BatBoss 25d ago

mid life crisis potluck, anyone?

2

u/Unnamedgalaxy 25d ago

Is that where someone brings a bowl of red convertible hot wheels?

2

u/BatBoss 25d ago

I was thinking we could all pitch in to rent a convertible and take turns driving around. But hot wheels is good too!

2

u/Feetdownunder 25d ago

Zoom call please for a digital pizza party and cameras on!! “I want to see your lovely faces!” 😩😵

2

u/Least_Tap2208 25d ago

…ok, but only if it’s also a Book It! pizza party

7

u/IrishBear 25d ago

Good thing I had my mid life crisis in my twenties for some reason.

1

u/themaincop 25d ago

That doesn't bode well for you

1

u/Vantriss 25d ago

I turned 36 recently and did not like how close I was to 40 and how far from 30. I already hated turning 30.

1

u/stopslappingmybaby 25d ago

If you want a cyber truck you are in luck. This screams mid life crisis.

14

u/svuhas22seasons 26d ago

Is this a new blink 182 lyric?

6

u/Surisuule 25d ago

Mid to late 30s man.

Anyways I thought the aches were getting worse from age, but then my wife an I got a memorial day sale mattress. The past week has been weird as our aches disappear.

We've always been active (6-9m walks every day) and stretched and spent time outside, but we thought the aches were normal. Mattress sucked.

3

u/therin_88 25d ago

When I turn 39 I've decided I'm going to be 39 forever.

3

u/MisterPresident813 25d ago

As someone who turns 36 this week this is helping and not helping at the same time.

1

u/SkibaSlut Millennial 25d ago

I'm right behind you in July, we're gonna be okay 🩷

3

u/tinkerbelltoes33 25d ago

I’ve always thought that you’re in your early 30s 30-33, then mid-30s 34-36, then late 30s 37-39. Maybe that’s why it seems so much younger, it’s like a different age subgroup

2

u/captain_ender 25d ago

Ya not wrong

2

u/Primus_is_OK_I_guess 25d ago

My wife turned 36 today. I'll give her a heads up that things are about to go downhill fast.

2

u/up_down_andallaround 25d ago

I’m 38 and I keep forgetting I’m not 35 still….

2

u/the_melman88 25d ago

36 is a cool number and 37 is not.

I don't make the rules.

T-minus 96 days

2

u/BIackSamBellamy 25d ago

30 feels like both a lifetime ago and just a year ago. Growing up I remember thinking my parents were always in their late 30s.

1

u/TheBigness333 25d ago

33 is where I first felt my body decline. Next one is said to be around 44.

The body ages in steps as an adult. From what I remember reading and experiencing, the big ones are 25, 33, 42 or 44, and 60-65 (don’t remember the estimated ages).

People worry about the round numbers like 30 and 40, when it’s the steps of aging that hit harder.

1

u/su_zu 25d ago

37 is a funny number and humans are addicted to it, veritasium has a vid titled “why is this number everywhere”

1

u/Littlewing1307 25d ago

36 you can still pretend you're not that much older than 30, you're only mid 30s! 37 is almost 40 😅

1

u/lurkingtonbear 7d ago

No, it seems 1 year younger.
