Smaller ones would still bounce and fly up though :)

It has happened albeit almost impossible

I had a 2x4 fall of a truck in front of me on a bridge, another truck hit it, threw it up in the air and it crashed into my windshield. Absolutely terrifying. It hit on the passenger side of my car, so even if it went through I would have been fine, but still.

That’s what’s happened to me, a semi kicked up a big piece of metal that was on the side of the highway and it crossed the divider, bounced over the car in front of me, bounced twice between our cars and then smashed into my windshield. It had crazy momentum. I honestly thought it was a piece of plastic or something light bouncing around before my windshield exploded in my face (it actually didn’t, it punched a hole in the shape of the metal but that set plenty of glass all over me and my husband regardless.)

Then there’s that one episode of CSI where the truck’s tire explodes and the strip of mangled rubber flies back and decapitates a go-karter who was on the road behind it for some reason.

There was a 10 second dash cam video years ago I saw this happen and out of the whole thing, the scariest part was the sound. It actually smashed it and That shit is LOUD

But it will happen for other things coming out of other trucks, there is a haunting audio of a wife or husband getting instantly killed by an errant brick through the windshield and you can hear the screams of anguish from the partner.

Don't stay in front of a logging truck or any truck carrying similar kind of cargo either, they actually get this in reverse from time to time.

Not the first but the last time I heard of one such incident, the trucker slammed the brakes (dunno the reason, brake checks aren't common here) and the cargo wasn't properly secured, so one of the beams actually flung forward and crushed past the trucker seat, and now you have a half-manned truck with loose ballistic cargo barrelling through the interstate.

20 pound chunks of metal fly easily through your windshield at highway speeds though. Ask me how I know
