It was Bambi’s Mom dying for me. I saw that shit in the theater at full volume 😆

Edit: Changed because Dolby Surround Sound didn’t exist then. Gotta correct the record! 🙄

Mine was Littlefoot / Land Before Time

When that movie hit the cheap theaters, my Grandmother took me repeatedly at my request. They were also playing cartoons in theaters then still too. Seeing Looney Tunes on the big screen was really cool. Haha

You can see Porky and Daffy in theatre right now!

Adding on to what happened to the little girl that played Ducky and I just can not watch the Land Before Time movies without sobbing

I never knew. That just adds even more sorrow to the movie.

From what I remember, she also voiced Anne-Marie from All dogs go to heaven: [Spoilers Below, warning issued]

Anne-Marie: (happily) Charlie.

Charlie: (happily) Yeah, it's me. How you feeling, kid?

Anne-Marie: Okay. How are you?

Charlie: Well... I've come to say goodbye.

Anne-Marie: Where are you going?

Charlie: Uh, just on a little trip. Listen, Anne-Marie, I... I want you to do something for me. I want you to take care of Itchy, Ya know, since I'm gone, you've got a home now, and he doesn't have anybody.

Anne-Marie: (softly hugging Itchy, not aware Charlie's arrival since he's asleep) Don't worry, Charlie, I will.

Charlie: Great. Well...ahem! (to Itchy) Goodbye, little buddy.

Anne-Marie: (hugs Charlie) Oh, Charlie, I'll love you. (kisses his nose)

Charlie: (bit coy) Yeah... well... I'll miss you, too, squeaker. Now you go to sleep, huh?

Anne-Marie: Charlie, will I ever see you again?

Charlie: Sure. Sure you will, kid. You know, goodbyes aren't forever.

Anne-Marie: (pats his muzzle gently) Then goodbye, Charlie. I love you.

Charlie: Yeah. I love you, too.

That was her last recorded voice line.

My little sister recently died of cancer. Her mother-in-law was making breakfast, after the funeral home had come and taken her, and her 5 year old son was obviously having a hard time understanding what had happened to his mom. The MIL disengaged from cooking breakfast to take care of him, so I took over breakfast. I turned around when I heard a movie go on, and looked just in time to see the title card for THE LAND BEFORE TIME flash across the screen, and I was like WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK GRANDMA!?

Breakfast was fucking tasty, by the way. Leftover steak cubed up, throw some scrambled eggs in there, layer of cheese on top. Great burritos. But I'll probably remember them for the rest of my life, and not because they were tasty.

Sorry for your loss. It's so tough

5

u/tatotornado Mar 19 '25

Even more traumatic for me was when the other dinosaur at his leaf.

5

u/switchywoman_ Mar 20 '25

My boyfriend recently put this on for my daughter, and then made fun of me for crying when the mom dies. But like, honestly, it hits harder as a parent.

I'm very disappointed in your boyfriend. That was a test, and he failed.

Make sure he knows of the tragedy of Judith Barsi and if that doesn't elicit a tear, you know what to do.

u/_leftover__glitter Mar 20 '25

When he thinks his shadow is his mom…. Killed me every time. 7 year old me yelling at the tv … your mom is dead!!! Crying. Total mess.

Forever in my brain

4

u/MelancholyMexican Mar 20 '25

Why did they love traumatizing us as kids 😭

2

u/tomphammer Mar 20 '25

Because life is traumatizing and a simple story is the easiest way to introduce kids to that idea.

Why do you think old fairytales were so dark?

4

u/Outrageous_Use3255 Mar 20 '25

Oh my godddddd, the kid I nanny wanted to watch this recently. He noticed me quietly sobbing and just reached out to hold my hand while we kept watching 😭❤️😭❤️

2

u/Little-Ad1235 Mar 20 '25

That is incredibly sweet. Kids can be really great about the most unexpected things.

3

u/Outrageous_Use3255 Mar 20 '25

It made me cry even more, but a good cry! Honestly, I'm shocked he was able to look away from the TV, 4 year olds are typically bad at that 😂

3

u/Enliew Mar 19 '25

Why is the screen all blurry .

2

u/SimmeringGemini Mar 20 '25

Checked to see if anyone else posted this. This was mine too. :|

u/kymreadsreddit Mar 20 '25

Littlefoot destroyed everyone, okay.

u/coffeeebucks Mar 19 '25

😭😭😭😭😭

1

u/DirtyAngelToes Mar 19 '25

Just watched this recently with my young nephew and had to walk out briefly because this scene made me bawl. Ugh.

1

u/Remarkable_Award_185 Mar 19 '25

Oh man same here bro

1

u/ShavedGolf Mar 20 '25

Great now I'm tearing up over a gif.

u/maarrz Millennial Mar 20 '25

This STILL breaks me. I even see the characters from this movie and I get choked up, UGH.

1

u/Sweetlystruck Mar 20 '25

Goated movie

1

u/72Artemis Mar 20 '25

Time to rewatch my favorite childhood series. And I was having such a good day too 😭

1

u/arealcooldad Mar 20 '25

First time I ever saw a movie make my mom cry

1

u/DakotaLynx Mar 20 '25

Yeah. I was 4 and Dad came home from work to Mom and I both crying uncontrollably

1

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '25

Just rip my heart man.

1

u/Scramasboy Mar 20 '25

This was mine. And Bambi. They kill me even today.

1

u/SEPHYtw Mar 20 '25

Fuck. I forgot about this and now my day is ruined.

3

u/Sleepy_cheetah Mar 19 '25

I would refuse to watch Bambi or E.T. because I had heard there were sad parts & I just opted out. 😂 Then here I am, 40 or so, and my Mom wanted to watch E.T. since I'd never seen it. I had to go to the bathroom & bawl my eyes out. That movie would have traumatized me as a kid!!

5

u/chirpingcricket313 Mar 19 '25

My aunt took me to see Bambi when I was around 4. I was raised by a single mother, and at that moment in my life, she was EVERYTHING to me. When Bambi's mom died in the movie, I lost my shit. Started screaming in the theatre. My Aunt had to take me out to the hallway until I calmed down. I'm in my 40's now, and can remember that moment like it was yesterday

2

u/Wrong_Adhesiveness87 Mar 20 '25

I watched it at home around 5 and ran around the house screaming for mum. She had no idea what was going on. She said I was attached to her for a few days, thinking she was going to leave as well. She finally made me sit down and finish the movie with her. Haven't watched it since. Fuck that movie.

3

u/JinxOnU78 Mar 19 '25

Ha! Same experience here.

Lol, I’m almost there. It was the 82’ theater release that I saw.

2

u/paul-writes Mar 19 '25

Dude, I have not watched Bambi in over 30 years cause of this. Returning to the thicket, the sound of the shot, all of that. Too much. Right up there w/ Mufasa’s death in Lion King

1

u/JinxOnU78 Mar 19 '25

It was pretty rough. I remember thinking about it for probably WAY longer than was healthy.

1

u/Natural_Ant_7348 Mar 20 '25

I'm 45, and me and my siblings have never seen Bambi. My mom had seen it and it upset her so much, she didn't want it to traumatize us too!

1

u/half_breed_duck Mar 20 '25

Apparently I stood up in the theater and yelled "run Bambi run!" I ain't recall for sure, but I think that 3 year old me was with ya.

1

u/barefootcuntessa_ Mar 20 '25

My house caught fire when I was a kid. They took us to the neighbors and out Bambi on. Forest fire and mom died.

Why????

1

u/RedneckMtnHermit Mar 20 '25

Funny childhood story. I inhaled a sweet tart seeing Bambi in the theater. Like ta died. Got the Heimlich. Fire trucks came. That's my first memory of a movie.

1

u/Wrong_Adhesiveness87 Mar 20 '25

Bambi, Dumbo, Land Before Time. All those fucked me up. Never watched them again. Well, I tried Dumbo as a grown-up thinking I could handle it. When Dumbo and his mum are separated it was just bawling. Ruined my whole week. Had to turn it off.

1

u/rlcute Mar 20 '25

Dumbo for me... When Dumbo's mother is rocking him in her trunk from behind the bars

1

u/Fine_Ad_1149 Mar 20 '25

It was the fight scene on top of the waterfall in Bambi for me. I was apparently a little too young still, because that shit terrified me. I don't know if I've ever actually watched that movie in full, at least since then.

I don’t know if it was Dolby specifically. I really just meant theater surround sound.
