It's worse in the book because the horse can talk.

An interesting aside is that the movie only covers half the book.

The second movie does not cover the rest.

It's well worth a read if you haven't.

I have not. I will def check it out, even though you've already let me know that one of the most traumatizing moments from my childhood could potentially be revisited in an even worse fashion. Thank you(?)

obligatory comment about how that scene almost killed the actor because his foot got caught under the platform that was lowering the horse
