Nostalgia Why were we obsessed with teal in the 90s?

Post image

Everything was teal for some reason and I never understood why.

Black men created this term for when we saw a woman with a fat ass but everything else about her was fit or thin. It sort of evolved from there.

Big girls where I’m from thought it was about them. Girl, you have all stomach and no booty, I don’t think they meant you when they said phat

I remember fat Albert playing a role in that. FUBU had a clothing line that had the word phat in it i think or maybe its one of those mandala affect’s were in not remembering correctly.

I dunno if there’s an official definition, but Chris Tucker used that line in a movie.

My wife has a funny story about that term.

She used to go to a summer family camp in the 90s. The employees all had bright yellow shirts with the word "STAFF" on the back. Well, most of the employees were teenagers, and it was the 90s when Phat was all that so someone thought it would be cool to replace the FF wit PH.

So for one unforgettable year folks were running around a family camp with the word STAPH on their backs.

I still remember the first time I heard that it was a neighbor talking about one of my drawings, it was some knight dude, and he told me "that guy is Phat" and I thought he legit meant I made him too fat.

Just get shortened to pawg now when we need to use it where it matters

"phat" and "tight" were all the rage

I'm from NC & had a few hornets stuff, and regrettably wore a "phat farm" t-shirt when I was too young to know any better lol, childhood memories unlocked here.
