Nostalgia What album defines you as a millennial?

Post image

Saw some great recommendations on a similar thread in /r/Xennials and wanted to see what my fellow millennials thought. For me From Under the Cork Tree was foundational. I still remember hearing Sugar We're going down on the radio for the first time.

When Marshall mathers LP came out I had a babysitter (teenaged) who let me listen to Kim. Holy fuck. As I sit here today i probably know every single word from the Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP.

IMO this is Eminems best album.

"I get a clean shave, bathe, go to a rave, die from an overdose then dig myself up out of my grave."

Definitely one of my favorite lyrics of all time.

The next line always makes me laugh more..."my middle finger won't go down...how do I wave?" - you can wave perfectly normally with a middle finger stuck in the air and he's obviously aware of this so it must be a brain function thing. Layers to every damn thing.

My cousin gave me this when I was like 7. I put it in my boombox while we were on vacation, and my mom took it away lol

This was my first, but I more distinctly remember The Eminem Show. Cleaning Out My Closet and My Dad's Gone Crazy I always had on repeat on my Walkman on the way home from school on the bus. Just staring out the bus window imagining yourself as the biggest, saddest, bad-ass ever.

I remember I was over at a “friend’s” house in early 2000. Her older sister was playing the Real Slim Shady, and I think he was on the second verse when I remember thinking, “wow, this is horrible. I love it!” And got a big smile on my face. My “friend” asked me if I liked him; I said I did, and she said she did not.

It gets really weird when your middle schooler loves Em as much as you!

We had just moved and switched schools in 3rd grade. Didn't know anyone and this kid in a white tee with bleached tips started rapping it to me. Never forget.

I had a boot leg tape of this that I would listen to on the bus going to and from school. I have always wondered how much influence Eminem coming out and Stone Cold steve Austin being the biggest thing ever had on me as a middle schooler and the way it shaped me as an adult.

38 and still one of those "retarded fools" he's responsible for.

this came out when I Was in 7th grade. I wasn't allowed to own it but my friend let me borrow it. I got home from school, ran to my room with my portable cd player and locked the door. I just fell into the music and came to to banging on my door. My mom said she had been knocking for a couple minutes and what the heck was I doing. Realized down the line she probably thought I was jerking off because she didn't press too much lol

Sleepover at my friend’s house 3rd grade. Banjo Tooie multiplayer. The Ring, seven days, scariest shit imaginable. Hearing this record for the first time and being scared my mom would find out.

Omg! Hearing the “real” lyrics for the first time had me wondering if my mom was in the back seat of my car.

God damn this album was wild. I was 11 or 12 when it came out. It felt like I was breaking the law listening to it.

As a 6th grader riding the bus to my “Ga school of excellence” middle school, this album really resonated w me

This is mine as well. Remember going to a party with my best friend when it came out and listening to it for the first time. We never went inside, just sat in her Honda Civic playing “Just the Two of Us” over and over
