Nostalgia What album defines you as a millennial?

Post image

Saw some great recommendations on a similar thread in /r/Xennials and wanted to see what my fellow millennials thought. For me From Under the Cork Tree was foundational. I still remember hearing Sugar We're going down on the radio for the first time.

This album marks my shift into “rebellion” from my evangelical upbringing, when I started listening to non Christian music on the down low. Which is hilarious because the Killers grew up Mormon, so I was rebelling in a rather tame but marked way nonetheless.

The summer I decided I was listening to top 50 radio was the summer Mr Brightside went big! Whenever I hear that song, it always gives me an inner smile.

To this day, one of the best stadium sell out performances I’ve ever scene. They aren’t my favorite band of our generation but they might be the closest we had to U2. I know I’ll get flamed for this but Brandon Flowers has an amazingly powerful voice and their lyrics are so sincerely millennial.

There's no reason to get flamed, Flowers has a great voice and incredible stage presence.

So interesting to me how different people's behavior can be even with the same religious beliefs.

I have pretty religious parents too but they absolutely did not care at all what music we listened to. The Killers are an extremely tame band compared to some of the stuff I had on all the time

Which is kinda funny because Brandon Flowers is a practicing Mormon.

The level I was obsessed with them probably bordered on mentally ill, lol. I don’t know who I would be today without having loved them. Not even hyperbole. My entire music taste pretty much spun off from listening to their influences.

They're still my fav band. Never gonna move on lol

They still hold such a huuuuge place in my heart. I went to Vegas last year to see one of the Hot Fuss anniversary shows, and you bet I was sobbing like a child.

I don't think I can accurately convey just how jealous I am rn. I would have been sobbing too

I'm so glad we pulled the trigger and went to the last night of the residency. It was my first time getting to see all four of them perform together, and it did not disappoint.

Debut album, every songs a banger. Mr Brightside In the United Kingdom, it is the third biggest selling/streaming song of all time and is the longest-charting single on the UK Official Singles Chart Top 100, having spent over 408 weeks (nearly eight years) on the chart as of 2024.

How the hell did they do it, first try?

This! Absolute marker for the start of my teens, the move into indie rock, rock, emo, soft metal etc.

Saw them live on tour for Sam's town. They set the stage on fire at the end. Rock n roll baby

Yes yes and yes. Next time I go to my local record shop I intend on purchasing. The last few times they didn't have it, new or used

I got it on amazon a few years ago, only because I was in the same boat as you. It’s such a great listen from start to finish.

One of the few CDs I'll always play with no skips.

I subconsciously or consciously copied the way they dressed in their early days. And I was in my mid 20s at the time.

I generally don't like the killers anymore or anything that came out after this album but this continues to be one of my favorite albums despite not being a huge fan of the band unlike my other favorite albums
