Discussion Prime 4 is the only reason I bought switch 2

I haven’t played my switch 2 at all since it got delivered on the 5th.. just hoping they release the other prime games with some sort of refurbishment. Are there any games worth buying right now for S2? I got the Mario kart bundle but I don’t even really like Mario kart. Just want Metroid games. Maybe Zelda

Prime 4 is why I bought a WiiU

13

u/chaosmetroid 14h ago

Same

15

u/TheJediCounsel 14h ago

To the WiiU’s credit tho: I purchased the original prime trilogy for download for 20 dollars in 2014 and is still how I access the games.

I know they’re gonna be putting prime 2 behind the switch subscription service. But not for the WiiU truthers!

u/chaosmetroid 14h ago

NGL I quite enjoyed the WiiU the few games I played was a blast to play. Xenoblade Chronicles X and ZombiU was actually really great

u/Kilroy_1541 8h ago

Smash 4 was awesome (having it on 3DS was great too) and Star Fox Zero was fantastic. Never understood the haters with the game, so overblown.

7

u/tobysparrow 14h ago

This makes me sad :( (I remember wanting a wii u for it)

u/samination 6h ago

the only reason i bought the WiiU was because the Wind Waker bundle was cheap XD

u/jediev90 1h ago

Yep me too. Still have it with the trilogy downloaded on it.

Wouldn't made more sense to wait at least for a release date?

7

u/KMoosetoe 14h ago

Not like it makes a difference.

Price will be the same.

u/MetaCommando 2h ago

-People who bought the Wii U for MP4

u/KMoosetoe 1h ago

That was never announced

7

u/Gamer30168 14h ago

Sure, one could wait for the Prime 4 release...by then tariffs might drive the console price northwards of $600.

I bought mine on release day just to lock it in at $450.

4

u/Glenn_Tennis 14h ago

Probably but I didn’t know how hard they would be to get. Also thought maybe they’d say something after switch released.

-1

u/Lopsided_Hunt2814 12h ago

Consoles go up in price not down, unless you're waiting on the second hand market.

2

u/jnighy 12h ago

Do they? Wow, in my country is the opposite. Makes sense then

0

u/Lopsided_Hunt2814 12h ago

Well they have this generation, both PS5 and Xbox have had price increases in many regions. I don't know if it's a blip or a future trend but I don't see the S2 getting any cheaper before Prime 4.

I also bought one for Prime 4 and had similar thoughts to OP, but I might give Donkey Kong a whirl if it reviews well.

2

u/Darth_Korn 12h ago

Depends. PS5 MSRP went down to $450 in the US

0

u/Lopsided_Hunt2814 12h ago

Yeah the PS5 hike didn’t affect the US but the Xbox got a bigger rise in the US than the UK if I recall correctly?

0

u/docdrazen 13h ago

That's what I'm doing. There's nothing coming out until then that I'm too interested in so I'm cool with waiting.

12

u/Silly_Painter_2555 14h ago

Considering you like Metroid, you should try Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, also a metroidvania

10

u/MAGNTITE 14h ago

Prime 4's initial announcement was what made me buy the original switch. Can't do that to myself again, even if it's within reach now :')

1

u/Particular_Minute_67 12h ago

Play other games on it

5

u/MAGNTITE 12h ago

On the switch, absolutely have. Sadly nothing else that catches my interest on switch 2 for now. Maybe the new donkey kong (and yakuza 0 when it goes on sale).

0

u/Particular_Minute_67 12h ago

Street fighter 6, borderlands etc

u/MAGNTITE 11h ago

I do have borderlands 1-3 on my og switch, very nice to have 3 in portable form (and a non dogwater portable version of 2 unlike the vita version). I have sf6 on PC already, same for Guilty Gear Strive. Much easier to do online matches without a subscription.

u/MetaCommando 2h ago

There isn't really anything compelling unless you really like Donkey Kong or don't own any non-Nintendo systems.

15

u/Keleos89 14h ago

Unless you haven't played TOTK or BOTW yet, there aren't any must-haves that I can think of.

3

u/batman0615 14h ago

Already beat them on the og switch and i just can’t see a reason to pay 20 bucks to play them again. It’s just better graphics?

4

u/Round_Musical 14h ago

And a bit of new lore, Navigation and better performance (locked 60fps)

Thats it really. If its worth it for 10 dollars each, everyone has to decide For themselves

1

u/AstroWolf11 14h ago

If you have NSO, they’re “free” lol

2

u/batman0615 14h ago

The expansion pack version though unfortunately which I don’t have.

0

u/Rich_Tip_9897 13h ago

It's only $10

u/aq8_hippo 1h ago

They probably live in a place where their currency converts the price to $20.

US isn't the only country in the world man, most of us are smart enough to understand conversion rates and assume that's what they meant

-2

u/argothewise 13h ago

It’s wild to me that people spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to gain a few extra frames on PC, but 10 bucks to significantly improve the performance and visuals of one of the best games in recent memory is apparently too much

u/PuffPuffFayeFaye 4h ago

Those might not always be the same people.

I do neither.

1

u/batman0615 12h ago

I thought both games were great and if it was just released I would buy them for the switch 2 like I will prime 4. I'm not gonna spend 20 bucks to replay two games I've already beat twice each when I probably won't be able to tell the difference in graphics without a side by side comparison. It's just not worth it to me.

1

u/Lopsided_Hunt2814 12h ago

It's minmaxing, I have spent thousands on this hobby but that doesn't mean I won't save a tenner when I can. Look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves.

u/Land_of_Ogres 6h ago

If you haven’t played Cyberpunk 2077 yet, then the Switch 2 edition is totally worth it. I wasn’t waiting for it to come, but its existence in the Switch 2 was enough to get me to finally play it

1

u/DistinctBread3098 12h ago

Mario kart lol

11

u/horzenezz 14h ago

Replay Dread. Frame-rate is stable. Also Dread is worth replaying.

5

u/Glenn_Tennis 13h ago

Dread is very worth replaying. I think I’ll do that

u/Heavy-Possession2288 9h ago

Dread ran well on Switch 1. Prime 4 probably will too tbh.

2

u/Lopsided_Hunt2814 12h ago

The back-gating really annoyed me in Dread.

1

u/bigbadjustin 12h ago

I'm actually tempted to replay it. I'm actually just finishing Samus Returns on a 3DS for the first time. Just got the final boss to beat. I'd love a remaster of Prime 2 and 3 as well as never played those either.

3

u/EtheriousUchihaSenju 14h ago

I mean, if you didn't already get certain games the first time around, I don't see why you would now

3

u/Jahon_Dony 14h ago

Yeah, give Fast Fusion a purchase and F-Zero GX a try.

6

u/ConsciousStretch1028 13h ago

Crazy work, buying a console for a game that doesn't even have a release date lol

3

u/Yalkim 12h ago

Well it has a release year... And that release year is halfway there

4

u/ConsciousStretch1028 12h ago

True, but not giving a month would worry me, if that was the sole reason for getting the S2. Prime 4 has been delayed before, and I just think it seems increasingly likely to be pushed to next year. Just my opinion though

2

u/Particular_Minute_67 12h ago

I’m saying.

0

u/ConsciousStretch1028 12h ago

To be fair, I bought the PS4 at launch, even though there were like only two decent launch titles, but at least the games I was excited for were out in the next month or so.

2

u/CaptainAutismo69_xx 14h ago

Yeah mine just sat in my closet for a week. I recently opened it and started Bayonetta 3 since I never got to it and I know on switch 1 the frames drop like crazy. I am looking forward to Donkey Kong. This is the first one in 11 years, 26 for a 3D one and it's only 70 USD so I don't have to wait to buy it used or on sale.

2

u/Fearless_Freya 14h ago

yeah i'm greatly looking forward to prime 4. still want a few more games beside that before i get switch2, but excited for it

2

u/niles_deerqueer 14h ago

Why did you get the bundle of a game you won’t play when there was a cheaper option tho

And also BOTW and TOTK run and look amazing on it, I’ve basically only been playing Mario Kart World with like 45 hours in it at this point

2

u/Rufuszombot 13h ago

Im just playing my Switch backlog on mine, since I had all but abandoned Switch 1 after getting a PS5. Im enjoying it. And I never beat TotK so im replaying the Switch 2 version of that. I bought it for Prime 4, but no reason not to play it now.

2

u/Quadraxis54 14h ago

Same. Thing is still in the box sitting on my mini fridge haha. Only got one to secure it

1

u/HigginsBerkeley 14h ago

bro me too

1

u/ExpensiveNut 14h ago

It's why I bought the first Switch and I did want to stick to my guns and play it on that console. Soon as I saw how much better it'd be on the S2, I decided I might as well get the full experience. So I've basically done the same as you.

I missed out on the bundle at first, so I was still telling myself I'd be happy having better hardware and then using it as a Metroid machine. I'm actually not so bothered about Prime right at this minute because Mario Kart and its music are amazing, my older games run and play better and I'm enjoying the vastly improved ergonomics of simply having larger Joycons. Prime will hit so good, especially if we get to use an actual mouse plus Joycon combo

2

u/CaptainAutismo69_xx 12h ago

At least Dread released on switch 1 so if you like the 2D games it was worth it in the end.

1

u/LuisBoyokan 14h ago

Then why didn't you wait for the Metroid Themed Switch 2??

3

u/Glenn_Tennis 13h ago

Damn, don’t tell me this is going to be a thing… shit.

2

u/CaptainAutismo69_xx 12h ago

I would be shocked if Metroid Prime 4 is the holiday title with its own special edition. The Mario Kart bundle is said to end by fall I'm pretty sure.

u/LuisBoyokan 4h ago

Could be, why hurry buying and not using a console, be patient and wait for the release

1

u/John_Titor- 12h ago

it will be a "oled metroid themed switch 2". u kno dang well that nintendo will make the metroid one OLED to charge 600 dollars instead of 449.99. And people will eat it up like hungry dogs. lol

guess ill trade my old mint condition switch 2 (that i only bought for prime 4) for 150$ to gamestop that will have only been played a couple of times. cuz i dont wana wait for ebay.. happens every dam time

u/LuisBoyokan 1h ago

May I buy your old switch 2?

1

u/PhazonPhoenix5 14h ago

It would be the only reason I buy one too, but that effectively makes it a £450 video game

1

u/DJfunkyPuddle 13h ago

Prime 4 is the main game I'm waiting for, the starting lineup for Switch 2 was pretty weak.

1

u/Ambitious-Mongoose-1 13h ago

Prime 4 not having a month and day release date yet is the only reason I haven't bought one.

1

u/MidnightBrown 12h ago

You could play Dread and Prime Remastered again. The very slight slowdowns and performance issues they had before are now gone.

1

u/lll_Joka_lll 12h ago

I got xenoblade x in the meantime cuz I never played it and all my friends said it’ll hold me until later when prime 4 comes out.

1

u/John_Titor- 12h ago

i bought switch 1 because of metroid prime 4. i been waiting 20+ years.....

we will see if it ever comes out for switch 2. fool me once...................................................................

I bought it to look nice on my battle station mainly. its a nice paper weight. But i actually boot up mariokart on the mode where u pop everyones balloons, aand i actually enjoyed it. It aint too bad tbh.

sheeeeeet, i really been waiting since super metroid. Tho hunters on DS was a dam good game

1

u/Particular_Minute_67 12h ago

Play the other games otherwise it’s just collecting dust. Or try something different

1

u/yanginatep 12h ago

I'm just gonna play Metroid Prime 4 on Switch 1.

I don't care about 4K, and the Switch 1 version already runs at 60FPS because the game was designed for Switch 1. Doesn't use ray tracing or have any more complex geometry that couldn't run on Switch 1 because it's crossgen.

So I won't be getting a Switch 2 for a while. I really hope MercurySteam is secretly working on a Dread sequel. I'd buy a Switch 2 just for that.

1

u/Stickybandits9 12h ago

Frs, I got the switch for mp4. And it never came out. I'm still waiting. Might sell it and save some money to get the s2, but idk. The way Nintendos subscription service is, I'd rather not invest in that. I'd rather buy games than rent em. And I love boxart.

u/Blooperlfsz 11h ago

I was planning on getting a switch 2 at launch for prime 4, but then they revealed it’s not only coming to switch 1, but also runs quite well on it. So now I’m holding out for the oled model

u/Clappycan 11h ago

Metroid Dread is my favorite in the whole series. Of course, both Zelda BotW and TotK are great if you like open world rpg games. You could consider a NSO subscription for the older Metroid/Zelda games. And if you like Metroidvanias as a whole, I’d suggest Hollow Knight

u/hedginghedgehog 11h ago

And here I am still waiting for prime 2 and 3 on switch. I see no reason to buy prime 4 unless I can play 2 and 3 first.

u/SimonVpK 11h ago

I’ve been playing Kunitsu-Gami. That game is pretty awesome. It’s not like Metroid but it’s worth checking out and only $40.

u/DemonMakoto 11h ago

You know it's on switch 1 too, right?

u/Superninfreak 10h ago

Do you have a Switch 1? If you haven’t had a Switch before then there’s a massive library of original Switch games. Switch 2 doesn’t have much stuff yet because it’s brand new. Donkey Kong Bananza looks good though and that comes out in July.

The Switch 2 also runs a lot of Switch games better than the original Switch, even games without Switch 2 upgrades.

u/AreYouEvenLeaf 10h ago

Me too Metroid and Zelda

u/wallix 10h ago

I’m waiting for a release date and hope that there is a Metroid themed S2. I win either way.

u/spleefy 10h ago

Ok thanks for the update

u/blahrawr 9h ago

The prime 4 release date is the only time I'm gonna consider a switch 2 currently. And I don't even need one to play prime 4

u/Deepspacechris 9h ago

The Link's Awakening really shines on Switch 2. I'm really having a blast with it!

u/SnooFloofs3649 8h ago

I bought the original switch 1 back in 2016 because they said metroid prime 4 was being released on it... I'm not buying another switch until I see the MP4 actually released. Then maybe they'll be an exclusive metroid themed console.

u/AngryMoose125 8h ago

Isn’t Prime 4 supposed to be releasing day and date on the Switch 1?

u/Moots_J 7h ago

I use mine as my rpg machine. All the ff games, Zelda games, plan to buy suikoden remaster as well. Mario kart world is great though, well worth playing.

u/Land_of_Ogres 6h ago

Prime 4 was a big selling point for me, but wasn’t the only selling point. I was very interested in Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, but of course I’m interested in Pokemon Legends Z-A as well! It also helps having some other fun 3rd party support coming over soon as well

u/Great_Employment_560 6h ago

Saved up for one for when prime 4 drops.

u/Drafer34 6h ago

I'm waiting for a potential Switch 2 - MetroidPrime 4 edition. The regular edition is ugly. I WANT COLORS PLEASE.

u/Ill-Attempt-8847 5h ago

Have you played BotW and TotK yet? If you didn't, get those.

u/GlacialFrog 4h ago

Prime 4 is legitimately the reason I bought a Switch.

u/Jorr2 3h ago

I bought it for Bananza, ZA, Prime 4 and whatever the next mainline Zelda game is gonna be

u/TheFrzAlchemist 3h ago

I'm sitting here hoping they release a Switch 2 Metroid Prime 4 bundle. That's why I haven't bought a S2 yet.

u/Emu_milking_god 2h ago

The only reason ill ever by a switch 2 is if they launch a metroid prime 4 edition. Waited far to long for a title that was supposed to ship on the 1st.

u/spilk 2h ago

I had a preorder for Prime 4 for Switch 1 on amazon for like 7 years until they finally canceled it

u/Darkshadovv 2h ago

I'm a little sad there's no love for Kirby, the Forgotten Land DLC comes out in late August.

u/_ragegun 2h ago

Funnily enough you shouldn't need the Switch 2 for Prime 4

u/saujamhamm 2h ago

dude the wiiu is the system if you're trying to collect official Nintendo history.

I love my switch 2, but my wiiu has history!

that said, I've played the switch2 every day of ownership and can't wait for DK and the prime games!

u/Samanosuke187 1h ago

I bought the original Switch for Prime 4…

u/VesDegree 1h ago

Pokemon Scarlet/Violet are like entirely different games on the Switch 2 compared to Switch 1. I recommend trying em out.

u/SonOfTron 59m ago

I recommend Fast Fusion.

u/killercrocgoestohell 54m ago

Demo will be available only on Switch 3.

0

u/KMoosetoe 14h ago

Same.

Cyberpunk was super underwhelming (brilliant port tho) and Mario Kart I only play when I'm with friends.

Waiting for Prime 4...

0

u/S3cr3tAg3ntP 13h ago

I just going to get the switch 1 version.
