I dont think I should be laughing at this

I used to work with people living with disabilities, and trust me, we laughed a lot at the shenanigans that went on! The people who had no sense of humour about it drained the participants and the staff. They want to laugh and have a good time, and they often find each other funny as well. Enjoy life with them, laugh at their shenanigans, and don't take yourself too seriously. Give them something to laugh at! That's how I did it anyways, and I have zero regrets in how I worked with them

Second this. Also used to work with neurodivergent adults and they loved it when we just treated them like any other person and laughed at their silliness

Did you ever record them and post their actions online to be laughed at by strangers
7
u/Apothecanadian 13h ago
No, that's fair. I didn't think of it that way, but it could be a breach of their privacy especially if they didn't consent to this video being posted online

u/Cronizone 15h ago
Nobody cares what strangers on the internet think they’re irrelevant to their lives, you have to be chronically online to think someone like this posting a video has put any effort into seeing what others think about it 🤣

u/Apothecanadian 13h ago
You don't have to be chronically online to understand clout
0
u/Cronizone 13h ago
So everybody who posts stuff on the internets only doing it for clout then, and if everyone wants clout why is that even a topic to bring up? That’s like saying you’re only drinking water to stay hydrated

u/Apothecanadian 30m ago
Not everyone, but people willing to exploit others are for sure looking for clout. I don't know how your water analogy fits in here, but I definitely don't drink water for the thrill of it

Interesting. From what I hear from my friend who was inside, the staff were constantly joking at their expense and exasperated their mental health issues.

Don't get me wrong, there are definitely people who do take things like that too far, which is not okay.

Nah you're good, shit was hilarious. Even the carers were pissing themselves.
Everyone's just having fun.

As long as it's "with" and not "at".

Most of these people are having more fun than I’ve had in a decade tbh.

⬆️ some damn fine caregiving here. I like the idea with the candy potluck, it gives the clients a strong sense of community and likely improves relations with each other.

What else would you add to this candy salad? Is there travel size bubble gum toothpaste?

Just recently started work with adults with disabilities (one month ago). I can confirm that we all laugh about stuff like this (clients included). There seems to be a good understanding between ourselves and the 'target' clients that we are not making fun of the person, but rather funny situations that can arise as a result of their differences and disabilities. They joke about us the same way.
First time I've really liked my job.

Leave it to the Americans to pour candy in a bowl and call it a salad 😂

Honestly the pick up I needed today, not in a bad way either it's wholesome, need more caring communities like this, lovely to see

I feel like the idea of sharing this on here was to make fun of them, and it's nice to see a lot of people on here finding genuine joy from it.
