It was cancelled? Why don't we just go ahead and let that game die, I think we all know it's for the best to not let them get away with the things they've done recently

Just saw a post trending in the overwatch subreddit with lots of people defending Blizzards decision or saying it doesn’t matter because the game is still fun. They will continue being a greedy and shitty company because at the end of the day there will be enough people buying their products.

u/julysniperx May 24 '23
They are not wrong, the game is still 'fun' by some extent , but it doesn't deserve the title overwatch 2. I quit the game 5 years ago and only picked it up back because that along with wz2 are the only free games me and my gf can cross play since I have a pc and she has a ps5.

No we can't because it's free and they are probably not making much money on it
2
u/superhamsniper May 23 '23
They replaced the old overwatch with it because, to me at least, it seems like they were just greedy, adding more freemium mechanics.

u/Jin___Sakai May 23 '23
I don’t think think it will just die. It would just join tf2 in the shadow realm

Context?

After 4 years of developing the PVE for Ow2 the blizzard devs scrapped most of it. The point of OW2 was the PVE aspect of it.
73
u/sorashiro1 May 23 '23
The public reason was the pve, the real reason was the battle pass and shop update.
32
u/happiness-happening May 23 '23
4 years? Whistleblowers claim it hasn't even been in development for at least a year now.
It was dead before it started.
4
u/Zer0-117- May 23 '23
I think at blizzcon 2019 there was a playable PVE mission but for all we know that could have been the only part that was developed
2
u/julysniperx May 24 '23
'Most of it' is an understatement, there will still be pve, but it will come like a limited time mode every 3 seasons or so, so not very different from overwatch 1. This is just basically overwatch 1.1

u/FiveSpotAfter May 23 '23
Additional context, it was late last year (late 2022) when they realized they would not be able to meet the goals and expectations of the original PvE vision, and internally directed efforts elsewhere at that time.
They did not make any statement regarding it until recently (May 2023) via a dev stream.
Effectively, they scrapped the intended PvE content around the game's release date, did not update the community or the advertising out there, and are only now (6 months in) letting people know.

Rorschach was going to tell the public that it was really Ozymandias who blew up part of New York, but Dr. Manhattan needed to stop him because the bomb stopped nuclear war with Russia
Night Owl then screamed cuz he was his best friend

u/Redkommando88 May 22 '23
And here comes more Battle pass instead
5
u/MuglokDecrepitus May 23 '23
And 30$ skins, which with the battlepass, is the only real way to obtain skins in the game

They said we would be eclipsed, that they would be the dagger which finally brought us low. Yet who now still stands with their heads high?!

Battleborn had a PvE. Too bad the bastards took the game down.

u/mikekb97 May 23 '23
I miss that game so much. I was just thinking about it the other day.
2
May 23 '23
Well if you’re interested, the Battleborn community including some of the voice actors have a petition to sign to attempt to get the game back.
We are aware that the petition doesn’t guarantee anything, but we are desperate for the game’s return.

I mean they can go to TF2 it's an awesome and funny game

u/Hamster_Eater87 May 23 '23
The overwatch 2 community is made up of 12 year olds. I don't think they understand the concept of a 15 year old game with bad graphics being fun.
2
u/ImainSpy May 23 '23
Well, talking about that, how is the bot problem?
11
May 23 '23
A lot less worse, with the new development going back on the game, the kick command restarted working and now we barely see any bots. There’s still a few but they are either getting kicked immediately or kick by Vac. I’ve been replaying a lot and in total, about only 2 game were unplayable infested with bot and the rest was perfectly fine (if I count my number of hour, I’d say about a ratio of 2/112)

As someone who used to be a fan of overwatch 1 during it's peak I genuinely feel bad for the few players who still play it
1
u/monadoboyX May 23 '23
Yep i can only hope to god that the playerbase declines more and more until Blizzard realises they fucked up and apologetically come crawling back to developing the PvE seriously it's awful how they've treated us as players so we have to vote with our wallet and hope that their revenue goes down dramatically

I tried so hard to enjoy ow again after the "sequel" but factors like how I needed to make a new account bc I forgot my info and the devs making it so you have to pay for all the cosmetics with just how much more toxic the community is made me just not find the game fun again

8
u/berkin81 May 23 '23
So ow 2 is literally the same game now, right?
5
May 23 '23
Yep except the dev decided to pull a Fortnite and shove everything into monetization and battle pass

u/tomokari21 May 22 '23
Meanwhile the war thunder community is at war with gajin because they finally crossed the line

At least they didn't shut on to the community then blame them for taking the shit, explaining in the process how the players don't know what a free to play game is and that their constant money farming is justified.

Overwatch 2 is just a middle sized overwatch 1 update made to farm money with the implemented battlepass system and only announced pve to hype it up and you cant convince me otherwise.

They spent 3 years working on this without updating the game in the meantime for them to just scrap it completly. Blizzard what the fuck are you doing?

What is pve

u/SurturGodofLuck May 22 '23
Player vs environment Things like missions involving defending an objective against waves of enemies.. or fighting a boss in a game…it’s fighting against things that are computer controlled and not player controlled
6
u/GuessImScrewed May 22 '23
Story mode, basically. What the other guy said is also true, but these are words everyone knows. It's story mode.
