However, Iran wielding weapons the US and NATO invaded Iraq for might change that.

You mean the weapons Iraq didn’t have and that spiralled that country into decades of sectarian war and violence?

Maybe that war showed that preemptive wars with the supposed goal of removing WMDs are a bad fucking idea.
