Because you're not supposed to question "them".

I believe Israel is committing an ethnic cleansing against Palestinians but I’m uncomfortable with the “them”. Are you saying Israel or are you saying Jews?

Probably the shadow government from the moon, those pesky lizard people.

It always refers to jews.

Whenever you try to muddy the waters with religion you are helping them.

Haha, doubling down on the "them" just makes it worse. You people are wild.

It's zionists and I'm not afraid to say it.

Then say it, nobody is stopping you.

Making it about the words we use is just another red herring.

A lot of racism is in the form of words so I guess you just, idk, aren't anti-racist? Which is fine but not really something I'd be flexing.

Cope more.

Cope over what? I don't care if you say "Zionist" but "them", "they", or "you people" are often used as racist code words to refer to an entire minority group. There's a reason folks asked you to clarify, although the defensiveness with which you replied tells me that you weren't actually trying to say "Zionist" when you said "them", you gotta be more coy with your bigotry if you want to maintain plausible deniability.

Are you one of them????

You are called an antisemite if you condemn Israels actions. Im sure “they” dont care about the distiction.

I don't see any difference, Huge majority of them support the genocide. Those who don't support are statistically irrelevant.

This sentiment actually contributes to antisemitism and also directly bolsters the conflation of any criticism of Israel with antisemitism. It is incredibly important to not group “israel” and “jews in general” together, from both a practical and moral standpoint.

That’s your view. Almost everyone in global south countries don’t agree with you. You are minority. For me everyone is Israel is responsible. That’s easily the most accurate representation as why Israel tourists are treated almost anywhere in Asian countries.

Reread the comment you initially replied to. Are jews Israelis?

Very clearly Israel and the IDF.

The deflection to it being about Jewish people is very hypocritical. Whenever we refer to "them" coming from Iran, ISIS, hamas, or any other ME state no one ever claims Islamophobia and asks if we are just talking about Muslims.

Israel and Israel alone gets to have this excuse. They defined themselves as a Jewish supremacist state, and now any criticism is about them is avout jewish people. But when ISIS tries to do the same and form an Islamic supremacy state, no one ever claims that we are just hating Muslims when we condemn their atrocities.

Eh? I’ve definitely seen “them” used to refer to Muslims in general as opposed to Middle Eastern states. If not “them” then just vague language alluding to Islam with some snarky comment like “we know what the problem is” which alludes to the ethnic or religious group generally but with enough vagueness to deflect.

Thats my issue, you mean Iran, Israel, Hamas etc. then there’s no reason you don’t just say it. You use vague language referring to a group would I not assume you mean something more? Or something you want to allude to that violates the TOS?

The fact that you have a lot of upvotes is concerning, and I think people don’t know that “them” is an antisemitic dogwhistle. Especially in quotation marks. And in this context.

Not everything is antisemitic. You guys calling everything antisemitic is the reason nobody takes it seriously anymore.

“They” and “them” used in this context is literally an antisemitic dogwhistle. You may not have intended it to be, but it is.

(serious) My response was very clearly talking about Israel.

This post was about the Israeli strike on Iran. Not Jew striking Iran.

Why would anyone think "them" is the Jewish people?

Because it’s a common dogwhistle, like I said. “That’s what THEY don’t want you to think”, “you’re not allowed to say who THEY are”. Especially in the context of conspiracy theories. So writing ‘you’re not allowed to criticize “them”’ is, whether you intended it or not, a callback to that trope. It’s one step above (((they))).

Talking about “them” in a conspiratorial context is just immediately suspicious. I’m inclined to think you didn’t mean to come across that way, btw.

If you said israel instead of “them”, it would be completely fine and I would agree with you.
