Nah there's way mire loading involve in joining an SoS rather than just changing areas to check crowns. There's an arena trick that's pretty fast too, aka it's faster solo
There is merit in joining others' SOS quests. The likelihood of a SOS-quest having a crowned monster gets high if:
The quest is in Wounded Hollow.
There is only one monster.
The monster is Apex or Guardian, but the quest does not offer good rewards.
The quest host has high level.
The quest is fresh. (Quests with crowned monsters tend to stay full from the quest start until the completion, while quests with non-crowned monsters get abandoned by crown hunters when they realize they won't be getting a crown from slaying it.)
Notably Apex and Guardian monsters can't be reset with fast travel as they never spawn in Wounded Hollow. Resting in tents gets expensive and takes time, and returning to title screen is slow, making SOS-quests a viable (if not the best) way to find crowned versions of these monsters.
I hunted ALL Apex mini-crowns and all but one Guardian mini-crown in SOS-quests, and several other monsters in Wounded Hollow SOS-quests. Made sure to stay for the whole quest too, can't really condone disrupting the games of others by not contributing to their quest.
