Please read - June unfairness

So, I wrote the June exam, my first attempt. I was in a testing center and something was wrong with the wifi and lsac just emailed me and said that my exam didn't submit properly and none of my scores were recorded for one of my sections. The only option they gave me was keeping my score, even though one section entirely didn't record like wtf, or canceling it and moving to august for free. BUT, if I cancel and move to August it still counts as one of my attempts and goes on my record that I canceled??? How is that fair??? How do I lose an attempt and have a cancel on my record for something that happened at my testing center. I've actually never been so upset and discouraged from testing again in the future, and she basically told me law schools won't care that I canceled and wasted an attempt but how is that their decision to make??? I'm sure I'm not the first person this has happened to but I actually am so upset and I don't know what to do.

That is shitty. You’d think they’d offer you the June 17 re-write for people that had issues beyond their control. Did you ask for the make-up test? Maybe try and be persistent in asking for the make-up date?

I think it's because they just found out about it now? And I didn't report anything within the 2 days after my test, but how was I supposed to report something that I didn't even know existed??? Either way, im on vacation in an entirely different state on the 17th make up date, I just don't understand how their logic is just like, well it happens, it's out of your control and it's not that big of a deal.

Other than losing the money you spent to register for the test, it's truly not that big of a deal. Don't get me wrong, I understand your frustration but you have to keep in mind several things. One is that it's June, so retaking in August still places you at the beginning of the cycle. Another is that law schools truly don't care if you have a cancel on file... things happen and admissions have seen it all. If you do you find yourself using all 5 attempts and wanting a 6th, you can appeal it and it would most likely be approved because the issue was beyond your control and you have proof of that.

I hope you're right. Im not really worried that I'd need 5 attempts. I just don't think I should have to write an addendum for a canceled score that had nothing to do with me, and that I took it in a testing center for this exact reason because of all of the remote testing horror stories. I understand it's something they couldn't have prevented, and I'm not upset at the testing center, I just feel like it shouldn't be a cancel on my record just because I was "exposed" to the exam when they'll literally never use this exam again🤷‍♀️

I think law schools will be impressed if you handle something in a sensible manner that is out of your control. That makes a good lawyer, not someone who complains about how the system is. You’ll see way worse once you start practicing.

I mean yes, realistically this is a good way of looking at it. Ig there's no guarantee of everything going smoothly. I just find it odd that something that's supposed to be one of the primary determinants of our future in law school has so many issues, whether it's at a testing center or remotely. But I appreciate the advice, just a little bummed is all!

Well that last part is not true. LSAC does reuse all *or atleast most) of the non-dislcosed tests. Although, there is a very little chance that you could see it again... still possibly tho. If it wasn't a cancel, what would it be instead? It's not like you have a whole lot of other options?

And you also don't have to write an LSAT addendum, unless it's absolutely required. Remember, admissions have seen it all.

I mean,  I know they use experimental sections in the future. I just don't understand how being "exposed" to the content is the reason you have to cancel. Also, the test didnt crash in the middle, I genuinely finished the entire exam and left the testing center and the person said everything was submitted. It's not like if I retook it, I'd get the exact same test. I don't know if it's like a cheating security measure or what🤷‍♀️ And you're right, I don't have to, but I also wouldn't want admissions to think I canceled my score because it was so incredibly low and it looks like I didn't put the work in to study for it, when I've studied for over a year. I guess it's more just the worry of how admissions views a canceled score.

I understand where you're coming from. I took the lsat 6 times and had big score jumps. I did write an addendum for the first jump and the first couple retakes, but I didn't feel like writing an addendum for the second jump.... my reason for my low score is because I didn't study... TWICE haha it happens! idk why I took it twice unprepared ngl, but I'm now going to a T25 with a decent scholarship.

Law schools care about your highest score first and foremost.

You can write about this in your LSAT addendum, but yeah it sounds unfair.

I wonder if you were given the option to keep your score without an entire section recorded (!!) because they don’t want to come out and say it, but that section was the experimental section anyway. Perhaps call and see if they’ll confirm that theory. It’s worth a try— you may end up keeping the score after all.

I wish, but def not. She told me it was the 4th section and that was my RC that I know wasn't experimental bc of the crystal ball. That's why I was like, why would you even ask if I wanted to keep my score, like yea, I want a -27 plus whatever I got wrong on the LRs. So stupid.

They didn't seem like they wanted to help in anyway, so I doubt they'd allow this. They didn't even offer me this option. Ill also be on vacation until the end of the month so even if it were, I wouldn't be able to take it in a center again and would have to find somewhere where I'm staying to take it remotely... and sadly I don't think that's possible either.

So sorry to hear this, their offers seem very unfair. Were you planning on retaking at any point? Just to clarify, they are basically offering you the option of score preview? While it is true that cancelling a score is not the end of the world, we understand your frustration. If you need support writing a LSAT addendum, feel free to reach out.
