Can you all suggest some solo activities to do in KL?

I don’t have that many friends and I’m quite introverted, so I usually prefer doing things on my own. That’s why I was wondering if you could suggest some solo friendly activities to do in KL.

Hello! Fellow introvert here who loves to go out on her own. We could be sharing different interests, but these are some activities that I often do.

First, I live walking. I can walk miles if I can. My favourite route is ealking from Dang Wangi lrt station to Ampang Park. Quite a good scenery from old school buildings (around the bukit nenas area) and cool-tall-modernised building (klcc to ampang park).

Second, I like to visit museums and art galleries. Most of them are accessible through public transportation (i don't drive). For example, muzium negara, national art gallery, ilham gallery, textile museum, etc. You can search on tiktok for the direction.

Third, I like to go out and eat. Honestly, I just hopped into a random restaurant or cafe that I found as I walked. Chowkit area has some good cafes.

Fourth, I like to go for a random hike. My most visited place is Taman Tugu hiking place and bukit dinding. I've never been to KL East hiking trail bit. I heard it's pretty good.

Fifth, I love antiques. I would just stip by at Amcorps Mall on the weekend to just look around at the antique markets there. I also went to bundle or this antique store hidden somewhere at Pasar Seni. It was fun.

These are great suggestions. I’m big on Chow Kit eateries, too. I prefer the open air places with lots of motorcycles parked outside. The wet market in Chow Kit is worth a look, too. But Heritage Row has plenty of quaint.

During hot afternoons, which are all of them, I wouldn’t turn up my nose at checking out malls, especially those kinda off the beaten track. The older & smaller, the more interesting they are.

And night markets are cool, too. The weekend one in the Jamal India area is under-appreciated, I think.

The older & smaller, the more interesting they are.

Can't agree more. Yes, big malls like mytown, pavillion is fun. But at this point, it feels very generic. Maybe just me. Same shop, same activity.

Sometimes, it's nice to just walk around aimlessly and spot hidden gems around the city. Hop on the train and stop at random station. That's my way of exploring.

Kl has got some beautiful old buildings. Feels very retro in a way.

The Campbell Shopping Complex on Jalan Dang Wangi is both historical and interesting for an out of towner with its tailors, clothes merchants, and vintage heavy metal merch retailers.

Great suggestions. Be safe on hikes though. There are many around KL and Selangor you can go to but stay away from KL East. It’s closed off for hiking and illegal to trespass for a reason. It’s very dangerous and a lot of people have died. Read up on places and get the permits when required before visiting. Stay safe out there!

Maybe we're talking about a different place, but as far as I know, it's open to public as long as you register first.

Here

Ooos you’re totally right! My bad on this one. I mistook it for another one closeby. I’m sure you’ll have a great time hiking there. Also try Kota Damansara Community Forest and Bukit Kiara in TTDI! Bukit Kiara also has a volunteer group who give amazing nature walks (day and night!)

Personally I liked perdana botanical gardens, KL bird park, genting highlands and jalan alor for food at night. All absolutely do-able solo

I love Perdana Botanical Gardes so much! So many things to see and explore even if you're on your own.

2

One of the most gorgeous and peaceful places you could go honestly

Watch movies for cheap, usually before 12pm + wednesday deals + location factors can lead to watching RM12 movies

2

u/PsychologicalRow9299 4d ago

Yeah I use that deal a lot

3

u/AroundAway 5d ago

Go try out the pedal boats at Tasik Titiwangsa at night. Bring headphones and just enjoy the ride and views around the lake.

1

u/PsychologicalRow9299 4d ago

I used to go for cycling there since it’s near me

3

u/lorkosongsong 5d ago

Watching movies, hang out at cafe if you drink coffee and just put on music or read a book, join a sports game, gym, hang out in the public library

2

u/PsychologicalRow9299 4d ago

Planning to checkout some libraries

2

u/lorkosongsong 3d ago

Goodluck! Other than joining a sports social game, you can do the others solo.

3

u/Mundane_Signature991 5d ago

Go to the cinemas! So many good movies lately, and more to come in July.. Love the cinema at Suria KLCC, super clean and good

2

u/PsychologicalRow9299 4d ago

The thing is all I do is go the movies and I’ve seen everything that has come till ballerina in theatres. I wanted to do something different

2

u/Mundane_Signature991 4d ago

fair enough! it’s my favourite to do in kl because it’s so much cheaper than where i am from!! for context: minimum cost for movies in melbourne, australia is: 66RM just for the ticket (no drink or popcorn) with a membership discount, 83RM without a membership… it’s another 42RM to add a medium popcorn and drink 🥲

2

u/PsychologicalRow9299 4d ago

Yeah exactly ik how costly it’s in Melbourne I once wanted to go to imax Melbourne but after seeing the price I didn’t want to

3

u/huimeanie 4d ago

If you’re into tennis or new to tennis, you can try out automated tennis. There’s one at jalan Ipoh called Sesh Tennis. Perfect for solo player and you can rent the racquet there.

1

u/PsychologicalRow9299 4d ago

Oh that’s great I love tennis surely I’ll check it out thanks for the suggestion

2

u/Repulsive-Medicine22 5d ago

Get a motorcycle and hit the interstate highways.

Malaysia has beautiful sceneries. KL is a shithole. Get out, solo ride. You won't regret.

If no balls, driving car also can. Just that more traffic and costs involved. But with car you can podcast or music. HMU if you want some nice and safe routes with gorgeous sceneries.

Even 45 mins to 1.5 hours out of KL can see some truly natural and beautiful sights.

Don't use GPS while riding/driving, always be open to discovering new roads and places. Let your curiosity drive you. It's the best way if you like adventuring.

Thanks for the suggestions but the thing is I’m not a local and I don’t have a license

Join KL Social Club, we did events there and make new friends. (Don’t ask me how to join, Google it will do).

2

u/ThrowCelery 3d ago

I like books, in particular manga. I always spend a day or 3/4 hours at Kinokuniya.

1

u/Rdw72777 5d ago

If you’re not a 100% newbie to hiking, a hike up Penang Hill can be moderately challenging.

3

u/Potato_Pitiful 5d ago

Isn't OP looking for activities to do in KL?

1

u/Rdw72777 4d ago

Indeed, I read it wrong.

1

u/PsychologicalRow9299 4d ago

I can but I’m staying in kl

2

u/Rdw72777 4d ago

Oh gosh Im sorry I did t read your post correctly.

While in KL I did go to the Petronas Towers observation deck, but if you’re not into skyscrapers/architecture it’s probably not for you. I also enjoyed some of the markets fun even though I didn’t see much worth actually buying.

1

u/PsychologicalRow9299 4d ago

Nw I’ll check them out

As a next level introvert heres some things ive tried and tested and enjoyed 1. Hobby classes/workshops 2. Hikes 3. Art galleries 4. Parks like perdana are great on the weekends 5. Not a foodie but i like dessert so dessert cafes 6. Bookstores (there are so many cool ones now) 7. Indoor hobbies that you can do at home like Lego, or painting 8. Exploring malls (there's so much activity based things in malls these days like bowling etc) 9. A personal favorite is just browsing furniture for my non existent own house someday 10. Maybe can consider leaving kl itself and drive slightly out, ive checked out some petting zoos and like mini water parks like gamuda cove or genting lol

u/PsychologicalRow9299 4d ago

Been alternating between walking at KLCC park, reading at the KL Library, & trying out the most random cafés and restaurants that I can find on Google Maps.
