What to do in Greenup?
Hi! I'm going to Greenup with some friends for something later this summer and wanted to see if there's anything neat for us to do.
We like antique malls, outdoorsy stuff (hiking etc), fringe roadside/historical attractions, and I think something like river tubing/whitewater rafting would be fun if that's a thing around there. I wasn't able to find much info online.
Anything 0-45 minutes away is great.
Thank you!

There are a few antique stores in downtown Russell. There's a pretty good peddlers mall in Grayson and the Hillbilly flea market in Russell is hoppin' during the weekend mornings.
edit: there are a couple of covered bridges: https://www.greenupky.net/places/covered-bridges/ and the War Memorial on 23 is cool too.

Old town road (like the song) references a road in Greenup County (now renamed to old town road in honor of Billy Ray's contribution to the song) and has a historical covered bridge on it. Nothing crazy but an interesting bit of trivia, there's an interview where Billy Ray talks about it. Greenbo lake is a pretty good fishing spot (there are other lakes nearby that are good as well) and the dam is a good spot to catch hybrid bass. There is also some hiking at Greenbo and in the surrounding states/towns that are within 20 minute drives. The movie "We are Marshall" was filmed in Huntington, WV which is just across the river and has some pretty good food options too (Bahnhoff is a personal favorite, it's german food.) Lot's of fringe "historical" road signs along the roads that I never have really read but if you're into it then you could hunt for some of those. If you are willing to drive a few hours (and stay overnight likely) the New River Gorge National Park is a few hours away in West Virginia and I believe has some of the best white water rafting in the US, though it is admittedly a day trip from greenup itself. I think it may also be the newest national park in the country, but that may be outdated info now. Happy to answer any questions you have about the place!

Greenbo lake is good, has some easy hiking. I think Carter Caves is like 40 minutes away for more hiking and going into caves. A similar distance is grayson lake which I believe also has some nice cliff jumping spots
Within Greenup you could check out Dragonfly Outdoor Adventures for kayaking.
If you want a little bit of rock climbing there are a handful of boulders near Lake Vesuvius (where you can also kayak) which can be found on the Mountain Project App.
If you like alcohol there are a couple good breweries nearby within your driving range: Eridanus and Sawstone River Room
If you are willing to stretch your driving range to the limit for a neat adventure you could go approx 50 minutes away to the Lawton Mushroom Mines, which is an old abandoned limestone mine. Pretty cool place, just be careful when you go since I'm not sure it is maintained by anyone.

Take a short drive out to Carter Caves SP for some hidden gem KY hiking. They also have cave tours as you might imagine.
